I'm finally ready to take the first step in having a reduction. My gynecologist referred me to someone this morning and although I'm nervous, I'm also excited. I'm 5 feet tall and wear a DDD. Of course, I have all of the neck and back pain in addition to slouching, which bugs me more than anything...well that and having to buy extra-large shirts just to get them buttoned.
My question is: what did you do to physically prepare yourself for the surgery and would you do it again?

I did nothing before to prepare, and it was a fabulous experience. SO glad I did it. I did it in 01, and my chest, 13 years later, looks like someones in her late 20s, as far as perkiness and firmness. Because they hike them up when they do the surgery! They look better now than when I was in high school, truly.
I already had lost quite a bit of sensation before the surgery, maybe due to nerve damage from the weight/sagging? So I can't speak to that part of recovery. Due to that lack of sensation, I felt less pain than many people describe. That caused me to do some reaching and activities that I think created more scarring than if I had just sat my self in bed and healed. FYI-- heed what they say about activity reduction times.

I didn't really do anything to prepare. I was like you--five feet tall and a DDD. I am so glad I did it! That was five years ago and I just love my "new" boobs. And it REALLY helped with the neck pain!
There's a site called Breast Health Online that has a reduction forum; that's a great resource.

I have never had the surgery, but a few if my friends have and all they ever say is how happy they are they did it, and how they wished they'd done it dinner.
Good Luck, and listen to the at home instructions.

For me, too, it was the best thing I've ever done! I didn't do anything to physically prepare, but it is a good idea to subscribe to photo access on the website referenced earlier. It looks pretty scary right after, and in the weeks immediately after. I found that by viewing other women's post-op photos it showed me what was normal and kind of de-sensitized myself.
Something else I did was make a basket of things to keep at hand for when i got home, so I wouldn't have to be moving far. Things like pain relievers, water bottle, reading materials, phone, ipad, etc.
Good Luck!

Thank you all so much for the positive thoughts and experiences. The one thing my doc did say was that they cannot predict what the scarring will look like. That kinda scares me but not enough to make me even think about backing out!

I had my surgery 5 years ago and it was the best thing I've ever done for my health! I am 5'2" and I was in a 38J after nursing two babies. I had a full pedicle done and was aware of that going into the surgery. Can you see my scars? Sure. But I'm a nearly 40 year old mother of 2, my husband has seen them look MUCH worse! The only thing I was nervous about was losing sensation in my nipples, which I knew was a very real possibility. I am happy to say that gradually my nipple sensation DID come back!
My headaches are gone, my neck pain is gone and I can fit into clothes that fit the rest of my body!
If you have any questions, please feel free to pm me! Michelle
