Wicker notably did not raise an objection when former President Donald Trump vowed to appoint a woman to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg when she died weeks before the 2020 election. Instead, the GOP senator enthusiastically supported Trump’s choice, Amy Coney Barrett, a white woman, despite having stated in 2016 that then-President Barack Obama should not be allowed to appoint a U.S. Supreme Court justice in an election year. Studies show that white women benefit more from affirmative action than any other group.”

Wicker attempted to downplay his obvious displeasure by trying to couch his objections in partisan terms, as a southern white conservative does. More from the Free Press:

“Despite not knowing who Biden will nominate, Mississippi’s senior senator predicted that Biden’s pick will be less palatable to Republicans like himself than the white, male justice who currently holds the seat. He compared the unannounced nominee to Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who became the high court’s first Latina justice when former President Barack Obama appointed her in 2009.

I think Wicker's problem (and a lot of other Republicans) is that Biden is replacing a white male with a black female.  They were OK with ACB because she was white and replacing a woman.

I love RBG's answer to the question - how man women justices on the Supreme Court is enough?  9. After 110 men, only 2 of those black, it's long overdue to put more women and people of color on the court.

I like the White House response

On Saturday, White House spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement that Biden’s promise to elevate a Black woman to the highest U.S. court “is in line with the best traditions of both parties and our nation.”
Bates noted that Ronald Reagan had pledged during his presidential campaign to send the first woman to the court, saying that it “symbolized” the American ideal that “permits persons of any sex, age, or race, from every section and every walk of life to aspire and achieve in a manner never before even dreamed about in human history.”

The White House said Saturday that Biden has established a strong track record in dozens of judicial appointments, choosing “extraordinarily qualified and groundbreaking nominees.”

Bates noted that when President Donald Trump lived up to his promise to pick a woman for the Supreme Court by nominating Amy Coney Barrett in 2020, Wicker backed her selection and said he hoped she would be “an inspiration” to his five granddaughters.

“We hope Senator Wicker will give President Biden’s nominee the same consideration he gave to then-Judge Barrett,” Bates said.

She barely won re-election in 2020.  As usual, she's trying to play both sides and find a way to oppose Biden's nominee without saying the obvious objections
1.  She's black
2.  The Republicans would reject any Biden nominee, even if it was a white man, just to obstruct
