3c flour 1c sugar 1.5 tsp baking powder 1.5 tsp salt 2 tsp nutmeg 1c shortening 1c currants 2 eggs 6 Tbsp milk
Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Cut in shortening. Add currants. Beat eggs and milk together in a separate bowl. Add to dry mixture.
Divide dough into thirds. Roll out each third on a floured surface. Cut into rounds. I use my Grandma’s juice glass to cut my rounds.
Heat griddle until water drops sprinkled on surface “bounce”. Grease griddle lightly before EACH baking. Bake cookies slowly, a few at a time, until tops puff & turn shiny; turn & bake other side until golden brown. Don’t let yourself get distracted. They burn easily!
Cool on wire rack.
