Has anyone tried to get a real Christmas tree yet? We usually get ours at Home Depot and have had really great trees for several years. Today we went and they had very few trees and what they did have were not the best looking. Went to Costco and they had no trees at all. Went to Menard’s and ended up getting one (way more expensive than usual at Hd for the the size) but it is a lot narrower than usual (but wider than the others we found). I kind of wish we had just gone to the tree farm but am wondering if even there would have been bad this year due to the drought? What are you finding in your area?

The fires on the Pacific coast is causing a low stock of trees. Then add in the lack of rain and the live trees you have to cut aren't looking too good.

Several farms/sites that sell trees were not able to get any from Oregon.

We get ours from a local lot - I’m gonna head there this weekend so I’m curious to see.
We drove by another lot this evening and it was super busy people getting their trees.

My Costco had real trees today. They seemed smaller than usual and were $65

I can't find the dang article now, but it said one of the main reasons for the shortage is due to the '08 recession, and not enough trees being planted to be mature this year.

If the Douglas Fir is $44.00+ Right now at Costco, I can only imagine what we will pay for a Noble Fir or similar at Home Depot. It was close to $70 for a 6-7 foot tree last year.

We buy from a local farm that is right up the hill from our home in Oregon. We cut them ourselves or buy from a bunch that have just been cut. I got a 7-8 ft. Nordmann fir for $80. I think that’s a little more than we usually spend. I think I usually choose a Noble, which may be less expensive. But the Nobles all seemed to have brown tips.

We found a great tree at a local lot yesterday and it was about $30 cheaper than last year. I am calling this a Christmas miracle!! Also, they sell seafood so I got a bag of shrimp with my tree. Can't say that happens very often!

Our local tree farms grow their own so we won’t have any issue!

For years we've always gotten ours from Home Depot but the last several years it's become harder and harder to find a decent tree there. Our tradition has been to get it on fil's b-day, 12/12. Last year we almost didn't find one. This year we are planning on getting it a little earlier and I hate it because he passed in September, so it seems a little more special to do it on his bday this year. But it'll all work out ok. We are pretty slammed between now and then. So we'll just have to figure it out.

I saw some trees at Whole Foods last week, one of large local garden stores got no trees this year and another local garden center got 5, yes 5 trees.

Been told our Costco has them for 45. There seem to be less lots but I never have paid attention to them since we have an artificial tree. No idea the shape they are in but several are saying to go to a local tree farm where they actually cut them fresh.

We looked at Lowe’s today while getting other stuff. We typically get 7-8ft Frasier fir. They looked like shit and had a lot of dead brown branches and needles (that were raining off when I tapped the tree on the ground). We went to our local nursery down the street and picked a fresh tree that looked and smelled like it was just cut. Very green, no dry branches, no needles falling off. After tax it was just over $100. I cannot remember ever paying that much for a tree. A few years ago during a shortage we paid $65 at the same place. I’m more than happy to support local.

Our tree doesn't look too bad now that it's decorated and we cut several inches off of the bottom. What I noticed at Home Depot and Menards was that many of the trees weren't as tall as they said they were, but the ones that did fall into the correct category were only that tall because of the bottom of the trunk being longer than usual, or the long straggly branch at the top was long (and would need to be cut off). Ours is a decent height but just narrower than I would have liked, especially for the cost. I kind of wish we had gone to the tree farm but it's fine.

We go to a local tree farm that Pioneer Woman magazine listed as the state’s best a few years ago. It’s a smallish, family run operation and a fun day. The price has gone up steadily the past few years, and this year our 9+ foot balsam fir was $75. We chalk up the cost to the adventure of going, as well as the activities they have available on site (free Santa pictures, campfire, photo opps, petting zoo, etc.)
