This challenge is for those who scrap slowly and need encouragement to keep scrapping all month or those who want a little encouragement to continue scrapping. It is great for those new to Challenges and is a fun place to come chat with other Pokey scrappers. 1. Post a layout each week, or four layouts per month. These can be posted in the thread or in the gallery. If you post in the gallery, be sure to come to the thread and tell us you posted and tell us the name of the layout so we can find it. You can copy the URL from the gallery and paste it directly into your thread for a link. 2. This challenge can be combined with any other challenges and can be paper, digital or hybrid scrapping. These can be cards, layouts or altered items or any other creative projects. 3. Please comment on the work of others on the thread as your time allows. We all love comments on our layouts. 4. Have fun with this! This should be a "no pressure" challenge. Just post what you finish whether it is one layout or more than four. Come chat with the group as time permits. We love to welcome new members . If you are doing the Team Challenges, this challenge is worth one point for each page/project when you complete all 4. So that's 4 points for completing the Pokey Pea Challenge.

Welcome to the December thread. Sorry to be slow getting it posted.
Yesterday I took DH for a haircut in a nearby town and we were in an accident. The sweet lady that hit us admitted that she didn't even look our direction as she was looking up the canyon for a good place to take photos. I felt sorry for her as she let us know that this was her 2nd accident in less than a year and that she was responsible for the other one also. She didn't want to let her ins. know because she had little damage. Ours, however, needs to be fixed and our ins. told us we had to contact her ins. Luckily no one was hurt or there would have been much more red tape.
Add to that, my companion teacher in Primary wanted me to make some Christmas ornaments for our class as Christmas gifts. I spent 3 hours going to all the craft stores in the valley looking for clear ornament balls, vinyl and a heavy cellophane. Seems they are all scarce at the moment. After finally gathering all the supplies, I came home to find that I couldn't make it work as I planned. Finally at 10 p.m. last night I was able to find a way to fix it and finished 8 of them. It was a frustrating day. I just felt unsettled and shaky the rest of the day after the accident.
I am addressing Christmas Cards today. My scraproom looks like a tornado hit it. I am also hoping to start putting my Village up tonight. I hope you are all in the midst of holiday plans. I always look forward to seeing your avatars pop up on this thread.
Happy December!

kitbop, I am so sorry about another postponement of your dad's surgery. This has to be really hard on you. I am sending hugs. Is he panicked about the surgery? You must have posted as I was closing the November thread. Would you mind copying your post and posting it on this thread as well. I know the Pokeys would like to read it. Thanks.

((((Hugs))) nylene - I'm so sorry about the accident and so glad that it wasn't worse. I think it's always best to go through insurance - sometimes stuff that looks minor ends up being very expensive. kitbop - I'm sorry about your dad's surgery being postponed again. Hopefully the third time will be the charm and he'll finally get it done. I just put a batch of vegetable broth in the fridge to cool off before putting in jars for the freezer. I made eight pints of turkey broth earlier in the week from the Thanksgiving carcass and I was using up the vegetables in today's batch. I gave all of my canning supplies except for some jars to DS - my pressure canner doesn't work with the stove I have here and truthfully I haven't been doing much canning anyway. He canned his turkey broth and was so excited about that! He was my canning helper in years past before he enlisted.

nylene - I can imagine that you were shakey after the accident. I am so thankful nobody was hurt, but it's still a terrible feeling and a bother dealing with repairs and insurance. Glad the ornaments did work out after all. I know what you mean - when you have a plan for a project and it's like pulling teeth to make it work. Linda - have you ever frozen broth in freezer bags instead? I suck the extra air out with a straw while sealing them, then lie them flat on a cookie sheet while they freeze. Then after they are frozen I can stack them in neat piles in my freezer. It takes up way less space than jars! I'm gonna send gramma more hugs in this thread to make sure she gets them.

I haven't but that's a good idea - I had jars on hand and the space in door for now but if I end up making more broth before using up this, I'll look into that. I am blessed with both a decent sized freezer in our side-by-side fridge and a big upright freezer. (((((Hugs))))) gramma

Sending a hug to all the Pokeys needing them right now. gramma, I am holding you in my thoughts. Hang in there. nylene, I am relieved you and your dh were uninjured in the accident, and it is soooo you to feel sorry for the woman who ran into you and was worried about her insurance. But I am glad that you filed with your own insurance company and are not taking on the cost yourselves. kitbop, that is too bad about your dad's surgery being postponed yet again. Was his panic attack due to worry about the surgery? Or b/c this time he actually came off his meds on time? Dh is on a whole cocktail of med's and more than one of them affect his moods. When we went for his checkup with the heart specialist in October, he had to come off them all for 48 hours and he was quite a nervous wreck. If I had thought it would not skew the test, I might have slipped him one of my Adavans. Of course it is not the first time I have considered slipping him one of those pills... Linda, I have frozen complete soups before, but never just the broth. I put the soup into ziplok containers in the freezer. But I do freeze other things, like shredded zucchini and pureed pumpkin in the bags. I managed to get a few things accomplished today: made a couple of bd cards, made a batch of unbaked Christmas goodies, wrapped some gifts and have them ready to mail out to three different places. Still lots to do this week, but two more days, right?...

Good Morning and Happy (?) December Pokeys! nylene thank you so much for this little community within a community that you've created with this thread. It's my favorite place on the board I'm so sorry about your accident! As I was reading it the woman's second one recently it reminded me of my mom. She started having accidents that were her fault frequently. Nothing major, in parking lots, or the time she took out several mailboxes. That's when she decided to stop driving. I'm so glad no one was hurt, but what a headache now! Cody is having car trouble too, and this is not the time of year for any extra stress is it? I'm glad your ornaments worked out for you. kitbop I'm so sorry about your dad. He sounds like a handful. Will this push his surgery into next year? Is this an urgent surgery he needs to have? Linda I'm so excited for you having the first Christmas in the new house! And it's heartwarming hearing that DS joined in by phone with your Dec 1st celebrations. gramma you are in my thoughts. Sending you lots of hugs and love. Just know we are all here for you. grammadee you take it easy! It sounds like you are right back to your super busy self which I hope means you are feeling much better now! I love that you do a yearly calendar and I love it even more that your adult grands want them too. They are expecting my Aunt to pass any day now. Mom is doing well, I really don't think it's hit her yet that she will be the only one left of her immediate family. I've got my grocery order in for lots of baking ingredients and will start that this weekend - maybe. It feels a little early since most of the baked goods won't be eaten until the holiday. I'm hoping to join in on at least one crop this weekend and start putting my December album together. Work is sooooo slow and I'm bored out of my mind most days. But I'm not complaining either it's been a much needed change of pace. kellyr21 big big hugs to you, I hope you are doing alright, I know this time of year is extra hard for you. Waving hi and sending hugs to all my pea friends!

nylene, I am sorry to hear you were in an accident. I hope everything gets taken care of. joyfulnana, I am sorry to hear about your Aunt. kitbop, I am sorry to hear your Dad's surgery was postponed. I attended a puppy seminar today. It was only an hour long and she was answering any questions we may have. She also does one-on-one training. I have Zoe signed up for training through Petsmart and we start this Saturday. I did this with Phoebe and did good with it. I hope I can get Zoe trained like Phoebe. If I have trouble in some areas, I may see about the one-on-one training in the future. I have taught Zoe to get in her crate by herself. I was so excited the day she actually got in her crate when I asked! Phoebe knows she won't get a treat when I am leaving and just gets in on her own. Zoe hated the crate in the beginning but I can see it will be her safe place for her like Phoebe's is. I am not going to have time to make Christmas cards and going to send out Christmas cards I am having made with my dogs. I am looking forward to getting them. I have one more day off and have made a list so I can hopefully be productive. My sleep hasn't been very good at night. I hope I can sleep tonight to make this happen. I had better close up as the coffee shop is closing in 2 minutes! I hope everyone has a good week.

knutschen - sending you good sleep vibes, although it gave me a chuckle that you are mentioning bad sleep from a coffee house that is about to close... I too am on my last day off today, and need to get a LOT done. I look forward to seeing your doggy Christmas card!!! We adopted a 7 year old dog who needed a home this year. She's a corgi mutt. We've always started with puppies before this. It's strange to adopt an older dog, not knowing what words or gestures they understand. It's like you don't know their language! The new dog only understood "no" - to her, this mean, "be quiet, get off, leave it, wait" - whereas our other dog knows each of those as separate commands. The new dog is learning quickly. She is VERY VERY SMART... but also very stubborn - she will NOT "come" on command at all! And she will not "sit" or "lie down" no matter what we try! Good luck with your training. joyfulnana - I'm so sorry about your aunt. I hope you and your mom have fond memories of her. We made our first of the Christmas baking yesterday. My Mom said "don't send me ANY sweets this year. I'm struggling with my blood pressure and cholesterol. Oh...except...are you making mince tarts?" I also twisted her arm to taking a couple of pecan crescents and orange fruit bars!

joyfulnana - I'm so sorry about your aunt. Prayers for your mum. knutschen - hope you start sleeping better - that's always tough kitbop - I'm totally with your mum - mince tarts are needed for Christmas! We got the rest of the vehicles moved yesterday. We've been trying to get that set up with the local towing company but they've been down a truck and super busy so when they called at noon and said they could do it if that worked for us we jumped on it. 3 trucks (DH's, DS's, and DD's) and 1 project car (Mustang) and three hours later, they are all at the new house. Hopefully at some point, they will run again. We moved the Mustang to three houses so far...it was DH's first car and he's sure it'll be running and restored one day. So we ended up late to DD15's Girl Scout meeting and we didn't have time to do all the shopping we had planned during the meeting. Still got some done during and afterwards. DH and I are going to need to make another trip into the city though. Today is Saint Nicholas Day - I made cinnamon rolls for breakfast and EVERYONE got up early to eat them. I forgot to pull out the stollen though - maybe DH and I can have at lunch (the girls don't like it). Shoes were filled with chocolate oranges, candy canes, and new Christmas ornaments. And a santa crinkle sack for the kittens....

Good Monday Morning and St Nicholas Day, Pokeys! nylene, I hope you are not too stiff and sore after your accident. Good luck with your puppy training, knutschen. Most of our dogs have been gifted to us as adults, so they kind of trained us--and each other. We now have a stray cat who has moved onto our deck. I built him/her a nest out of cardboard boxes and some towels, and dh has been feeding and watering them out there. He put together an insulated kennel over the weekend, so we will try to get that switched out for the box this week. He has been able to pick them up and pet them, but no one else is allowed close. Linda, I love your family traditions. We used to call December 6th Santa's birthday and I remember as children we gave each other gifts. I think of it as kind of like the modern "Giving Tuesday" where the focus is on others rather than ourselves. I remember a Dutch coworker who's children (in Canada) put out wooden shoes on the night of the 5th to be filled with oranges and candy. They were told that if they had not been good then the goodies would be switched out for SWITCHES! We had a busy weekend. Dd and family were here. Friday evening we watched the holiday parade in town, picked up pizza to bring home and eat here. Saturday and Sunday, they put up our Christmas tree, hung our Christmas lights outdoors, and helped with a bunch of other tasks that needed doing. Dgs wanted to bake and decorate cookies, so we did that. When they left, they took the wrapped gifts and Christmas cookie trays for dsil to drop off next week for two of our ds's who live in the Calgary area. Today I want to sign and address all of our Christmas cards for family and friends, stuff in "the letter", and have them all ready to drop into the mail tomorrow in town. First Tuesday of the month is "10% Tuesday" at the grocery store, so need to get my monthly rations LOL. Had hoped to get a page done for Sketchy Saturday this morning, but between dh having computer issues and dd calling about grading decisions in her TA job, I have done nothing but get these few paragraphs typed. Waving HI to all the other Pokeys: kellyr21, gramma, kitbop, msliz, shinyhappytina, joyfulnana, justjac

Thanks grammadee - I have a vague memory as a child in Germany (we lived there when I was 6m to almost 6) of getting branches (switches) with candy attached in my shoe on St Nicholas day - Google has been no help in verifying that - I'm pretty sure it was something that bought rather than made by my mum as once we moved, while we still put our shoes out, there were no more branches in them - just candy, an ornament, and a Christmas colouring or activity book to keep us occupied and out of mum's hair. That WAS a busy weekend for you! Sounds like fun with family visiting, the parade, decorating, and baking. I haven't accomplished much yet today - just moved some packing boxes down from DD21's room to the pile in the garage of stuff she's moving. And then filled the 2 empty shelves in her bookcases (that she's leaving) with books I unpacked of DH's creating 5 empty boxes for her to fill. Now laundry, dishes, hopefully sewing a skirt for DD15 for Christmas, some wrapping, and maybe scrapbooking this evening. We had our traditional St Nicholas dinner early on Saturday night - chocolate pancakes with chocolate chips (very rich and thus a once a year dinner treat) - so tonight I'm making a German dinner with snitzel w/ mushroom gravy, cabbage, and fried apples.

Hello, Pokeys! We had a busy weekend as well. I got all the Village buildings up and today I did the craziness necessary to get them all plugged in and not burn down the house. Alex is coming after school to stow all the boxes away under the tables. It's his favorite job every year. Then DH can bring up and tree and the trimmings. I will bake a batch of cookies today so they are hot when Alex comes. (will add the flour this time!) We have some very exciting news. Angie and family are flying in from CA.after Christmas and will spend 5 days here. I can hardly wait. They haven't been in Utah since the summer of 2019. We have to share them with the in-laws and one day will be at oldest DD's home for the Polar Plunge which the CA kids want to participate in too. We hope to get the entire family together that day for lunch. I'm afraid we won't have time for a full Cousin Camp, but hope we can have a mini one. We spent yesterday afternoon with baby Eddie and family since is was DD's(his grandma) birthday. How I miss having little ones around. He is delightful. knutschen , it sounds like you are doing a great job with Zoe. Our grand-dogs have all been trained and it makes a big difference. Those doggies are lucky to have you. grammadee , nothing makes me happier than seeing families having fun together. I'm glad they helped with all the decorating. I'm sure the cookie making would have gone faster alone, but what fun to have a little helper. Linda , I love hearing your Christmas traditions and wish I had children home to try them out. The customs from other countries have always interested me. I'm glad you have your girls both home and that DS will be coming. kitbop , msliz , gramma , joyfulnana and the others who hop on the online crop, I wanted to join this weekend, but there were too many things going at the same time. Hopefully next week. gramma , how are you? You are in our prayers and I think of you often. Hugs. kellyr21 , thinking often of you also. Take gentle care of yourself. I hope doing some art helps you through this time. Hugs. kitbop , what is your new dog's name? I'm sure she will enjoy your family and will fit in comfortably soon. How is your dad doing waiting for surgery? My neighbor, an RN, said that as of last Thurs. no IHC (Utah's largest insurer) hospital in Utah, Idaho and Nevada had beds and they are flying patients to other states. I hope it's not that bad in your province. That would delay your dad's surgery further if you were here. Will this ever end? Sorry for the long post. Waving at all my very special Pokey Pea friends.

Hello Pokeys! nylene how exciting that your California kids are going to be home for the holiday! I'm so happy for you! They can keep that Polar Plunge thing though LOL! I'm so glad you are getting some time with Alex too. It's so good to be able to gather with family again. kitbop! Did your dad's furniture get delivered? That kept coming to mind yesterday lol. Linda I love hearing about your Christmas traditions. I would loved to have done something like that when my kids were small. I may incorporate some of them next year just because they sound fun. This year I have a real desire to get away from all the trappings of gifts and have a simple holiday that revolves around family. grammadee your busy weekend sounds wonderful! It sounds like such a festive time. Are you back to 100% now and how are you feeling in general after your surgery? If you were eating pizza, it sounds like things are good! gramma, I'm thinking of you and you as well kellyr21. I'm having the kids here Saturday to eat and decorate cookies, then I'll have Rudy Sunday afternoon. I'm trying to figure out how to scoot everyone out Saturday so I can join in and crop LOL! I was complaining on Sunday about how warm it was here for December....yea, well it's cold now. I don't like that either Have a good week!

nylene - I would love to see pictures of your village - we're not setting ours up this year with the kittens - just one too many things to have to police. Hopefully next year. Yay for a mini cousins camp and getting to see family. joyfulnana - sounds like a fun weekend with cookie decorating. Good luck making it on the crop - I don't think I'll make it on one until after the holidays. gramma and kellyr21 - you are both in my prayers. Our Christmas traditions - many are ones from my childhood, some we've added over the years. We had some very lean years when the older kids were small so many of our holiday traditions don't require a lot of expense - just time spent together. We're adding a new tradition (at least we hope it'll become a tradition) this year - we've all drawn names and are buying a book for the person whose name we drew. On Christmas eve, we'll exchange books and spend time reading together and eating chocolate - everyone is to provide their favourite and I'll pull it all together into a charcuterie style board. Books don't have to be new - used or handmedown is fine, just something we think the recipient will enjoy. We think that we should be able to do this even the years we're not all together - we can just mail books to those who we won't be with and open over video chat. Time to get working on today's to-do list. Packing more of DD's room, unpacking more of DH's books, housework, sewing...Dh is home sick today and DD21 is working on finals (cue meltdowns all week)

Happy Wednesday, Pokeys! My energy level is slowly returning to "normal", but I still tire really quickly (or it seems pretty quickly), so I am learning to plan to do only one thing at a time, and in shorter segments. Most of the effort this past weekend was put in by dd and her family, and I just directed traffic. Was still exhausted by the end of the weekend. I am gradually adding foods to my diet. Had a Tim Horton's French Vanilla mixed half and half with black coffee last week. Heaven! No whipped cream yet, but... baby steps... The pizza is done by a local shop and they make mine with no sauce (so no garlic) and low fat cheese, so I have been able to enjoy it occasionally all along. They also make a gluten free version for dd. But the pizza place is not open on weekends, so they don't often get to have it very often. So excited that your family from CA is going to be there over the holidays, nylene ! Would love to see your village, too. Would love to see some cookie baking/decorating/eating pic's, joyfulnana . In fact, I'd love to get a peek at everyone's holiday decor and prep and activities. I have been sharing some of my pic's in the Photo-A-Day Challenge thread. Love your plan for a new Christmas Eve tradition, Linda . I love how traditions change as families grow and interests shape and reshape. Okay. It is snowing outside today: perfect weather for baking. I pulled out some frozen pumpkin last night so I can make some pumpkin loaves for Christmas. But first I am going to make some easy cookies. As scrapincin would say, TTYL!

grammadee, if you are getting snow today I hope that means we will get it tonight and tomorrow. They keep predicting it, but it is warm and blue skies today. Glad you are feeling better and getting back to favorite foods. Slowly, slowly. Your baking day sounds busy. I will take a photo of my village and post it. Funny story: Alex has put all the people and trees, etc. up on the village for several years. He was in school when I got the houses up so I went ahead and did it. When he came over I let him know that I put them up but if he saw anything that he thought needed to be moved, he could put it where he wanted. He looked over the whole display and said, "Grandma, I think you did a pretty good job. There are just a few things that need to move." He then moved nearly every piece just a bit. A little to the left or right, or changing the way they faced. It was so sweet! Linda, one of our traditions that has continued our whole 54 years of marriage is that we read a Christmas story every night in December. I started collecting stories when I was a teen and have accumulated 2 full binders now. We each have our favorites and we find that one a night it not enough. We read for almost an hour and will never get through all of them. I love all your traditions. It's what makes Christmas such a great time of year as family gathers. joyfulnana, I would love to see photos of you with your family making and decorating cookies. What a fun activity and you know that Rudy will love it. Does Abby hang around when the family is all around or does she hide out away from the commotion? I hope to at least stick my head in to say hello to my Peas friends online this weekend. I am taking a break from finishing my tree. We spent most of the day yesterday at the woodshop where one of the owners spent several hours teaching DH how to use a couple of different tools on his lathe. He is making little Christmas trees for ornaments and large ones for display to give to the kids. This man knows he can barely see and invited him to come, get his head up close to the lathe and he would give him pointers. What a kindness! Today we went back over to pick up a few items and to take a French Silk pie to the man. He seemed really surprised and said, "Oh, it was nothing!" But to us it WAS something, something wonderful. We stopped at Costco and picked up gifts for our neighbors, home teachers, visiting teachers and close friends. We filled the car with gas and I hope that's our last time out of the house today! When my kids were young I used to say "if mother's place is in the home, why am I always in the car?" I think I'm back to that stage again. LOL Hugs to all of you. You brighten my life more than you would ever know. Sending special hugs to gramma and kellyr21.

grammadee - yes, the snow is so pretty! We have a coating and it's pretty, but it's going back to 10 degrees (that's 45 degrees to our US friends) on the weekend so it will all be gone and we'll have to see if we have a white Christmas or not! Southern Ontario is so variable. I'm glad you are feeling a little better and enjoying your food! I've posted a few pictures on the photo thread, like us getting the tree up yesterday! Untitled by kirstendrew, on Flickr kitbop! Did your dad's furniture get delivered? That kept coming to mind yesterday lol No... it didn't... the delivery guys weren't vaccinated so weren't allowed into my Dad's retirement home to deliver. And, when I tried to reschedule the delivery...only ONE of their delivery teams are vaccinated, so it can't be delivered until tomorrow. I am NOT impressed And have a long post on facebook to let the world know about it! This is a Canada wide store, a big chain here! DD21 is working on finals (cue meltdowns all week) Ah, yes, DD18 is likewise in finals. Chemistry was today, Physics is Friday, Biology and Calculus next week. She is a bit of a wreck. For being so GOOD on stage and under that type of pressure, she is terrible at tests/exams. I am the absolute opposite! Good luck to your DD! We too figured out low cost traditions when the kids were small (and honestly, still now) - like making a popcorn chain, having an at-home movie night, decorating cookies, just going out as a family for a donut and coffee, going to a movie (on Tuesday, when they are cheap!). And the traditions stuck - we will be doing those things this year even with them being big! Next Tuesday is my birthday, and I think we'll go see the new "West Side Story". nylene , it seems you have a very special relationship with Alex! Is he the youngest grandchild? You've really established some great memories for him! I'm so glad your DH can create a project that is dear to his heart (and skills). How awful to lose what you cherish and are skilled at! I love your Christmas story tradition! I must get out our Christmas books. They live in a box of their own so that no body (ahem DH) ever mistakenly takes them to the thrift store. One of my favourites is called "Mooseltoe" - its a Moose who sets out to make Christmas "perfectly perfect", and his list is "check check check", until he discovers he forgot the tree on Christmas Eve, and ends up being the tree himself (the kids decorate him) - it is so much fun - strongly recommend to anyone looking for a kids Christmas book to add to their collection!!!

beautiful @grammmadee - I do miss snow. Never thought I would but I do nylene - how wonderful for your DH! I'm glad that there are kind people like that around to help him out. The idea of losing my sight scares me so much - I only have usable vision in one eye anyway (why I don't drive) and so much of what I do is vision dependent. kitbop - ugh about the furniture delivery. I truly don't understand people who refuse to get the covid vax. (((Hugs))) and good luck to your DD - thankfully finals here are over on Saturday so we're almost done. Your moose book sounds lovely - we have a Christmas book collection as well. My favourite is A Pussycat's Christmas by Margaret Wise Brown www.amazon.com/Pussycats-Christmas-Margaret-Wise-Brown/dp/0061869783

kitbop , I'm sorry about the furniture. What makes someone refuse something that can save his life? I hope you get it soon. Alex is not the youngest grandchild. Topher is a year younger, but lives in CA. They are so excited to be able to be together for the holidays. I hope the finals go well for DD. I typed in your book title and up came a You Tube video of a woman reading the story and showing the photos. I think I need to invest in that one. So cute. grammadee , that snow is really pretty. They say that the storm is on its way and it's starting to get colder and darker. So maybe this time the prediction will be true. Linda , we actually have the book by Margaret Wise Brown. I have several of her books and that's a favorite of the kids. They also like Goodnight Moon and the Big Red Barn. Such fun books. I think she wrote the Little Fir Tree too. I hope you all survive the week of finals. I remember the stress I felt as I studied. No way would I like to go back to college now! Best wishes to her (and you). I am sorry about your vision. I can understand the concern. My DH watched his mother go through this but they had no treatment then. He has had treatment(shots in each eye every month) for the last 16 years. They have given up on one eye and think within 6 months they will have to give up on the other. I have just about finished my tree. I need to add the angel to the top and make sure she lights up and then I can clean up the living room. That will be wonderful! I hate the big mess I live in while setting things up. ETA: kitbop, your tree looks lovely. Cute doggies too.

Hi everyone. I’m glad you’re not pushing yourself too hard grammadee. That sounds very frustrating kitbop. You’d think there would be a large demand for delivery people to be vaccinated. I thought I’d share a couple pictures. The house doesn’t photograph the best because all the lights twinkle so some are always out in the photo. With the tree I can turn the twinkle off to take the picture.

Hello, Pokeys! How frustrating about your dad's furniture delivery, kitbop . Guess ya got some redneck tough guys out East, too. People who accept their service are either desperate to get it/have only the one window to receive it, or--hopefully not--feel the same way as these non-vaxed people. Otherwise the company would have to insist on people following the rules. On a happier note, I love the pic of your dogs with the tree. And I checked out the Mooseltoe book. Think we might just go with the You-tube version of someone reading it to us on Christmas Eve. Dgs is a fairly decent reader, but he often fights reading time because he associates it with school (a place where the "should's" always outweight the "wants" in his mind). nylene , your dh's craftmanship will live on for generations. How wonderful that he can continue to create these timeless works of art. And how sad that he is facing a future without sight. I loved your story about Alex's response to your village. That, too, ensures a continuation of a loved tradition. How sweet. Sending your dd's confidence and you PATIENCE, kitbop and Linda . Hoping all remaining exams go smoothly. I dreamed about exams years after I completed university. Of course in my dreams I was LATE, and had FORGOT to study, and was LOST on campus... Hoping their real experience nowhere equals their fears.
I took my own advice and cut my baking plans in half yesterday, so I still had the cookies to bake this morning. They hold their shape better anyway once the dough has been refrigerated overnight. Just shut the oven off, now. Had enough cards to mail out on Monday, but now I am figuring out which cards I want to make for people we will see over the holidays. Fortunately, scrappy options are never in short supply around here . And I am making a list of what I need to do while in town tomorrow. Have an appointment for my Covid booster, so hoping I can get some other errands run on the same trip. Have a terrific Thursday!

finals seem to be coming along reasonably well today - first half of the Humanities final was this morning and she's working on the second half this afternoon. That just leaves her final project for Hinduism to finish up tomorrow. Her Religion final has already been graded as 100% so that helped.
Dishwasher installation was done this morning. It took about three hours and included the installer shocking himself. He shut off a circuit but apparently didn't check that he had actually cut power to the area he was working (spoiler alert - he hadn't). He was okay but apparently it was a pretty good jolt. We also discovered that the old dishwasher had been installed before they floored the kitchen so he actually had to lift the counter to get it out as it was a little below floor level. He also fixed the drain in the screen room sink - it was missing the part that sealed the pipe to the drain...This house is the gift that just keeps giving - I'm starting to doubt the previous owners hired out any of the remodeling to actually qualified people.
DD15's JV team came in third at the District Academic Team competition yesterday and the Varsity team was 2nd. District season is now over but they play a different season in the spring (High-Q) and will hopefully qualify for the state competition in the late spring as well.

Appliance installations are never as simple as they might seem, but your dishwasher adventures seem to be even above and beyond the usual confusion, Linda. Glad it is finally installed and working. Congrats to your dd's academic team! Received a set of scrapbook kits in the mail today. A lady who had run an LSS fairly locally had started a monthly kit club several years ago. With her family's move a couple of years ago, and then Covid, she had let them lapse, but she contacted me a few weeks ago to see if I wanted to renew. I decided to give it another go. The kits arrived today, and they are gorgeous. But December's is Graphic 45 Let it Snow, so I have no idea how I am going to use it. Part of me wants to use it all, and part doesn't want to touch it in case I make a mess of it... Got my Covid booster shot today. Feeling a little tired, but so far okay. Not hungry but need to figure out something for supper. Talk to you later...

grammadee - That Graphic 45 paper is absolutely gorgeous - the colours, the woodland animals, and of course Father Christmas! I would have a hard time cutting into it also. I made bread today - from scratch by hand...I haven't done that in a long time. The house smelled so good

Snow, snow snow! We got about 8 inches today and it is beautiful. It's even more beautiful because I only had to drive around the neighborhood in it. Tomorrow I may not be as happy as I need to venture farther to get groceries. grammadee , your storm came down to us. I have never been this prepared for Christmas this early. It feels so good to know that most of the rest of the preparations need to be done in the home, not out and about. We need to try to make connection with DS in the next couple of days. He's hard to catch as he is so busy but DH has made a couple of pens from the wood scraps he was given from one of the homes DS is building. He may want to give them to the home owner before (or by) Christmas. I took photos of my village tonight and will post them tomorrow. grammadee , I hope the side effects of the booster are gone by tomorrow. I had no reaction to the first 2 but the booster gave me aching and fatigue for a day. Your new scrapbook kits sound wonderful. Can't wait to see what you do with the Graphic 45. justjac , your home and tree are beautiful. I especially love the green light tree and your deer in the front yard. So very pretty. Linda , I read on another thread about the harassment your DD is getting because she is masked. That makes me want to cry and then to get mad. What is the matter with all these people who care nothing about the lives around them? Please give her hugs from me. She is one brave and very bright young woman! gramma , how are you doing? Thinking of you often.

feeling envious of all of you with snow - it's so pretty. nylene - DD15 is very frustrated with her classmates - understandably so. I keep reminding her that many/most of them are simply following the examples set by their parents and that she's doing a great job! It's not easy though. DD21 and I had adventures in cookie baking today. Aldi had caramel baking cups and peanut butter baking cups a couple of weeks ago and they looked intriguing so I bought a bag of each. Couldn't find any likely recipes online but there was one on the bag (same recipe on both - just one used caramel and one used peanut butter cups). So we decided to give it a try with the caramel ones. Oh MY! I was beginning to think my mixing bowl wouldn't be big enough. 1 lb of butter, 3.5 cups of sugar (mostly brown),3.5 cups of flour, 4 cups of oatmeal, 4 eggs, the bag of caramel cups, a bag and a half of chocolate chips, 1.5 cups of mini marshmellows.... I've made 7 cookie sheets worth so far and there's STILL cookie dough for probably 2-3 more sheets. They are good but very rich - I plan to freeze most of them. Not sure I'll be making this again though (and I need a new plan for the peanut butter cups) Outdoor decorations went up - I still want a porch sign but didn't like the ones in Aldi - there was one in the ad I liked but it wasn't in stock. Lights are almost done - we needed another extension cord. Made some more progress on DD21's packing - and I've unpacked all of the book boxes I can find - I think some are buried under other boxes still but maybe not. I need to organise still but it's a start.
