Not sure if this has been asked or discussed previously, but… I have stamps stored similar to JM I have dies stored similar to JM - in a seperate area. My stamp & dies are stored together in with my stamps
BUT
has anyone stored all stamps and dies together, so that everything for Christmas is together, everything beachy is together.
I have invested a lot of money and time into my ‘tools’ and want to be able to utilise them. But when I do a layout, I forget I have the perfect die to use, but have used a stamp. if everything is together, I can see all my ‘Perfect’ tools together, in one place.
has anyone done this?

I have not. I think it would be a good idea, but some of my stamps and dies are in different size pockets. I only have my 4x6 stamps/dies sorted into categories, all the others are in a bigger bin without enough of anything to categorize it except the alphas. I plan to make a sample book of the die shapes so I can flip through that because it is much easier than flipping through pockets.

I keep most of my stamps and die sets by manufacturer. However, I do keep Christmas, Valentine's Day, Halloween and baby themes separate. I've been organized this way for several years and I can only think of a time or two when I went looking for something in those bins "off season".

I keep my dies on magnetic sheets in Art Bins (labeled with a Sharpie as to what company and types of dies are inside). I store my stamps in pockets in binders, each of which has tags letting me know what categories and companies are stored within. The companies that rate enough to be on tags are the ones most likely to have matching dies. I can find what I want really fast, and it works for me, even though the matching stamps and dies are not always together. My Heartfelt Creations stamps and dies are stored together in Iris or Art bins that are sized to hold 12x12 papers, and they are marked with a Sharpie.

I do my stamps and dies the same way you do, jameynz. I then keep the divided by themes (ie Holidays, alphabets, greetings, etc). Then, I go one step further and put all my stamps and dies on the app, ColorMyLife. I can search for certain phrases, items, season, whatever, and find where they are stored. It's the only way I use some of my stamps. I have too many to flip though. Whatever you decide, I hope you find what works for you.

I have my Christmas card supplies separated - stamps, dies, and embossing folders stored together in a drawer. Everything else is stored in one space (the top basket of a craft cart) but divided into alphas, sentiment only stamps, all other stamps, and dies. If I have dies that match a stamp set they are stored together in one pocket. I have a couple of other specialty groupings but they're only a few items each. I have a really small stash though, dividing further would be a bit redundant I think. In general though I think it's worth trying out a system that matches the way you think. Jennifer McGuire and similar people tend to store things by manufacturer because they need to reference that info for design team/Influencing contracts, but the average crafter doesn't need that. If you think in terms of themes I would try organizing that way Worst case, you have to change it again. Organizing is helpful for reminding yourself what you have so that's not a terrible thing.

This (bolded). However... I am in no way on a design team, but I do store my items by manufacturer simply because alpha order is just how I roll. When I think of a stamp I don't want to have to flip through 100 or so pockets to find it. That said, in my Shape Dies bin I store all like items together, preferably in the same pocket. Rectangles, circles, tags, banners all in there no matter the maker. But like Jo mentioned. Try different ways to sort, if it works great, if not you can always change.

I store mine by manufacturer then theme within the manufacturer. The main reason I do that is so I don't buy duplicates (don't see my post in FYC thread about how I bought duplicate stamps on their closeout sale LOL). Holiday stamps (Christmas, Halloween) are stored in my bins that hold my Christmas and Halloween supplies so I can just pull everything out when I'm ready to create stuff for that holiday.
I've been thinking about sorting by theme but right now sorting by manufacturer works for me.

Not only do I store my dies and stamps together - I also keep my stencils there. I'm glad I started that as I've recently become addicted to sets that include all three elements. I have two sized bins - for smaller and larger sets. Each size bin is sorted by themes, the same themes in both bins. The only exception I make is I have several sets of foundation dies that I use frequently for both cards and scrapping so they are on magnetic/adhesive sheets on the side of my Kallax, so I can grab them easily.

Yes, I have now started "clumping". Butterflies. Flowers. Leaves. Seasons. Birthday. Sympathy. General shapes. Words. There is a lot of overlap, but I am not "forgetting" I own things as much now!

I keep them in separate bins but they are relatively close together. If I do have matching dies to go with my stamps, I either put them in the same envelope and store with stamps or I have an extra label that says "matching dies" just so I don't forget. Good luck and have fun!

I haven't ever thought to mix my stamps & dies but now that you mentioned it I think it makes sense for certain themes. Especially for Christmas/holiday themes. I often forget about my Christmas dies and focus more on my Christmas themed stamps. Hmmm....now I am re-thinking my storage as well!!

This is a huge work in progress for me, and may evolve more, but right now I do have my Christmas sets together but still grouped by company. I am working on doing the same for Halloween and considering doing the same for others as well. For the brands that I own a lot of I already have them organized by holiday, event, type, etc. depending on what it is. All of my Tim Holtz dies are stored separately right now, but I have the Christmas and Fall/Halloween grouped. The thinlits are grouped as well but separate from the Bigz. It’s kind of making me crazy trying to figure it out haha.
I definitely plan to group my alpha stamps/dies together.
I’m concerned about going any further because the way my brain works is knowing what I have for the brands.
Either way the inventory app I use (Color My Life) is a lifesaver.

My mounted (only my really old ones that have nice mounts from the manufacturer) are stored together by themes. Unmounted in 8.5 x 11 page protectors by themes in hang file folders. Stamps with dies for some reason are still by manufacturer--this may change soon? Stand alone dies were reorganized last month into themes. EVERYTHING that is a circle is in the same box, oval, square, rectangle etc. Most the nesting spellbinders are still together. Themes include winter, valentines, spring, easter, grad, summer, Fourth of July/Patriotic, Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Love and family, boys related, steam punk, and so on.
What is most important is for you to organize how you think! What is the best way to find what you own?

i don't store by theme or season. most of my stamps are from the same manufacturer and they come in sheets that are the same size. each set is in it's own sleeve so they are easy to store in a portable box that i can plop on my desk and leaf through.
my wafter dies are also grouped in sleeves and in a portable box.
my fat dies are stored on a shelf.

has anyone stored all stamps and dies together, so that everything for Christmas is together, everything beachy is together. I have a system with dies and stamps stored together. I have two big metal tubs like this. I use these storage pockets in the 5 5/8 x 8 1/2 and 6 3/4 x 6 3/4 sizes. I use washi tape to keep the flaps down on the pockets with small metal dies. I have them organized by season, alphabets, misc., and a couple of other categories. I use these as dividers. I'm slowly buying magnetic vent covers to put in the storage pockets for dies.
I also have a 12x12 album with 2 magnetic vent covers on each side of a piece of cardstock in a page protector. These are the misc. dies like hearts, stars, and nesting dies.
I try organizing using things that I already have in the home, hence the two different ways I store stamps and dies. I do keep them together in the same area.
