I was excited to buy this stamp during Black Friday, and it finally arrived yesterday. I started practicing with it, but the background shows through no matter how I press down. I have tried a variety of inks as well as my We R Memory Keepers Stamp Press, but no matter how gently I ink up the stamp, I get the background rather than just the grid lines. What am I doing wrong?

I have not tried mine yet, but are you using a stamping tool and then maybe rubbing on the background section too much? (like if you used your hand or some tool to rub on the lid). If so maybe try not rubbing on that section?
Or wipe off the ink from the background before stamping?
I don't know first hand, I have not tried using mine yet. I will look out for this.

I've tried not to rub on the background, and I've been using my stamp cleaner to wipe the background, but I can't get all the spots without also rubbing away part of the grid itself. It's very time-consuming, and I have yet to get a crisp image like I've seen on the website. It seems like the part that is supposed to stamp is not differentiated very well from the background, if that makes sense. I've never had this happen before, and I'm wondering if there is a manufacturing error. I have other stamps with lines that stamp clearly with no problem; I just really wanted this specific stamp! Please let me know if you see the same thing when you try yours out.

I have had one for a month or 2 and only had that issue when I pressed hard. I have used stazon and the oxides with no issues. It may be that specific stamp was made incorrectly? Hate that for you. I typically put the stamp upside down and then tap my ink pad on top of it so I can see how well it is getting inked - maybe try that?

That's what I do, too--add the ink to the stamp instead of the other way around. I can't find anyway of making this work. It would just be easier to draw the lines myself, which is silly. I'm starting to think the stamps in this batch were not cut properly. The grids barely project from the background, so I think that's why every part of the stamp is catching the ink.

Please let me know if you see the same thing when you try yours out. I'm back with my results: (used the biggest grd) Gina K Ink.... got ink all over the inside and when I stamped with a stamping tool, the background showed up also. Pinkfresh ink...got better results but still a little background. Distress Oxide....got a little corner of the background. I get what you are saying about it possible being defective because two of the gridlines feel like they are not as high as the 3rd one.....BUT this is what I learned: Apply the ink to the stamp gently so you don't get it too mushy and all over. Don't center the pad over the middle. Only on the spots where the gridlines are. Rub on the stamp tool gently (open handed, no fists). Hardly any pressure at all. All three inks stamped out clean when I did that. I might have to double stamp to make it even, but no more background! Yay! ETA: My stamp is from the pre-order after they first sold out.

You can always use a marvy marker to add color to your stamp.

That was a pretty pricey stamp. I'd contact customer support, as it sounds defective to me.

I wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong first. I've been stamping for years, and this is the first time I've had an experience like this. I was even thinking of cutting away the background, but I'm afraid I would ruin the stamp. Everyone else has raved about this stamp, and I see that they are sold out again. Maybe they rushed to produce the batch that was available on Black Friday. I was so looking forward to using it!

You can always use a marvy marker to add color to your stamp. I tried some of my Tombow markers but didn't like the "look" they gave. It was also tricky for me to get the lines just right. Maybe Marvy or Tim Holtz would work out better. The company did end up refunding my money, which is really the best they can do since the stamp is out-of-stock. They were very easy to deal with. Hopefully the next batch is better--I'm not giving up on the Heidi Swapp stamps just yet.

I got mine from the first batch of preorders I believe. I’ve had it for a bit but not used it yet. Tried it last night and it stamps beautifully. Now to just find some time to get creative!

I had the same issue and I was sent a replacement. Hopefully you can purchase a new one with your refund when they restock.

The refund is already in my account, but I will try to get a new one as long as it’s back in stock. It’s such a cool stamp, and I know I would use it a lot for my journaling.
