I just dug out my Minc machine after not using it for ages. Useful information (should any of this matter/make a difference): A few (maybe many?) years ago I purchased the Anna Griffin branded Mini-Minc machine, along with some pre-printed toner die cuts and packs of 6 x 7 toner foil and glitter sheets. I've been very careful to keep the foil/glitter separate from other foil, so I know it's Minc/AG brand. I first tried out the Minc using the above mentioned Minc/AG foil with a preprinted/toner die cut. It looked rather nice, so I know the machine is working. The problem I'm having is with the Glitter Sheets. I have the original instructions that say to heat minc to level 5. I preheated it for 20-30 mins. I used a Minc carrier sheet. Glitter side down on top of toner die cut. Almost no glitter adhered. I tried parchment paper as a carrier and copy paper. I tried using a cardstock shim. All resulted in very spotty coverage with the black toner showing. What am I doing wrong? Is it possible for the glitter sheets or toner die cuts to get old? (although they do foil beautifully). I'd love any suggestions! And now I know way I put the Minc away and gave up. TIA

Far from an expert on this, but from what I can tell, the glitter sheets don't work with the toner items. It need gel or glue - there are some pads out there that are preprinted with the gel - they just look white, you have to angle the light at them to see the design that's printed. The deco gel and the preprinted sheets still get fed thru the minc to activate the sticky.
I think the glitter sheets also work with double-sided tape, where you wouldn't need to feed it thru the Minc, just burnish it down.

These actually came with the Minc and it’s crazy that they don’t work. Ugh.
I think I’ll order some double sided tape sheets so I can try to die cut them and at least use them that way.
Thanks!

i don't mean to hijack this thread but speaking of foil sheets.....i just tried my new We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill pen last night with the adapter for my cutting machine. i used the WRMK heat foil. talk about a frustrating endeavor! my pen was very heated but the foil had a tough time sticking to the cardstock. very very frustrating!
i've tried the toner/heat laminating machine method in the past and it worked great for me. i used Deco Foil i believe. i just thought i'd try something new and got the Foil Quill. after last night's foil fail, i might just go back to the toner method.
OP, sorry you are having a tough time with you sheets. hope you figure it out soon.

I think if you use the transfer gel, it still needs to go thru the minc to reactivate the adhesive and make the foil stick; that's probably why they came with the Minc.
I waffle between using the toner printouts and my minc and using the Glimmer machine. It's a bit of a pain that the foils are different and I have to remember to keep the types separate. I love the look of the Glimmer foiled items, you can get such nice detail. But the plates are pricey - and you're limited to designs that someone else has made. With the toner and Minc, I can do any image I can print - but sometimes it takes a little adjustment to get really good images.

I own the Foil Quill pens, but I’m too intimidated to try them. I have 2 different hot foil platforms that use the plates. I’ve not used either one too extensively, mostly because of lack of time and space to experiment. I just ordered two new plates (Merry Christmas to me!) and hope to play with them between Christmas and New Years. I had to put everything away for now, but I’m going to experiment with that toner glitter paper soon to see if I get it to adhere to something, some how. The Minc foil foiling looks *very* nice. I need to get a new laser toner cartridge for my printer so I can try to make my own custom embellishments. I recently read that Hamlico glossy card stock is a good choice for toner foiling, so I have some on order. I’ll experiment with that when it arrives.

I've found that the toner sheets do have a shelf life. I tried using some Heidi Swapp toner images that are more than 5 years old, and I had a very hard time getting any foil to stick to them. I tried every type of foil I had, but some of them just wouldn't work. I wound up throwing them away, since I didn't want to try coloring them and smearing the toner all over the place. Lesson learned: Don't stock up too much on toner sheets, and use them up right away.

I haven't used my AG Minc in a while. I can't remember if the glitter side goes up or down. Did you try doing it the opposite way? I think I had to run it through twice on setting 5. I didn't like the preprinted toner die cuts because the white background didn't go with my other AG supplies.

I know I bought them on HSN years ago when I bought the AG branded Minc. I just received some preprinted sheets from…..Gina K, maybe? I’ll try to glitter those soon. Oddly enough the AG embellishments are foiling nicely, it’s the glitter paper that’s a fail. Maybe the age of the glitter sheets + the age of the toner embellishments is just a dud. Thanks

I didn't like the preprinted toner die cuts because the white background didn't go with my other AG supplies. I’m pretty sure I did foil up (setting 3) and the glitter down (setting 5). I don’t remember if I ran it through twice. Hum. I did try to shim it with card stock, but it made a pretty thick “sandwich” so I was afraid it would get stuck! I also tried an original carrier, parchment and copy paper. I agree about the white background. I have old left over AG Christmas embellishments from a card kit of hers and they are all ivory/cream. Wish the toner embellishments were the same. I should rack some of these I’ll never use for others to play with. Thanks.
