Sorry in advance if this questions is too "rambley"...but here goes.
Where in your craft or scrap room do you review stuff, look at things to use, make decisions, etc when you are scrapbooking?
Let me set up a scenario for you. I am working at my desk on a layout. I need a music stamp. I go grab my stamp binder, and push all my stuff I have been working on to the side and open my binder to look for a stamp. I find one, close my binder put it away, bring all my stuff back and keep going. Ok, now I need PL card to make into a tag. I push all my stuff aside and go grab my bin of PL cards. I select one, and it needs twine, some stickles, etc...I work on that in the place I had my LO and then set that aside and bring back my LO. I arrange pics and think oh they need to be matted so I shove all my stuff aside again and mat my pics...
I am very lucky to have my own space. I (a few months ago) needed to move into a space that was about 1/3 the size of my previous space. It's all good, totally fine, but I am limited to one smallish desk and some storage and feel like all I do when I am working on a LO is shuffle stuff around. I tried taking stuff down on the floor (OMG, I am so not cut out for that) but don't really have space to put in another workspace. My dream of a cutting station is long gone lol. I am getting a little discouraged looking at scrap room organizing online as people seem to have 3 desks, a computer workstation and built in shelving.
How do others handle this? TIA!!

I do all of my scrapbooking at my scrapbook table with the exception of computer journalling.
Now that said, I do have a whole room to myself and it does have a sewing desk, a computer desk, and my scrapbook table but those are all distinct stations.
In your scenario....I'll be sitting at the scrapbook table. To grab a stamp I either turn left to the drawer of wooden stamps or right to the box of clear stamps and dies. Then I'll grab my ink pad off the shelf below the clear stamps. The PL cards are on the shelf also behind my 6x6 pads. I don't have twine but if I did it would be in the drawers to the left above the wooden stamps. No stickles but nuvo drops are also in that drawer unit. At no point do I have to stand up and walk anywhere....everything is within reaching distance from my scrapbook table. The chair I use is wheeled and goes between the scrapbook table and the computer desk (where I journal or set up SCAL for my Cricut to cut)
For me, I prefer to have everything close at hand so I can focus on scrapping rather than hunting for stuff

For me, I prefer to have everything close at hand so I can focus on scrapping rather than hunting for stuff I don't mind the getting up so much...it's the constant shuffling of stuff. Maybe I need to reconfigure so I have somewhere to just look through stuff and I am not shuffling stuff around. I do think I need to get a handle on the PL cards though...thanks linda!

My process is probably similar to yours, kmage. I have my crafting desk that I got at Michael's at the start of the pandemic - it is cool, it lifts up and down and also has wheels. (Before I got that desk, I was literally scrapping on the floor). It isn't particularly large, but it fits 2 12x12 sheets of paper and my trimmer (but barely). Obviously, that doesn't leave me any room to be shuffling through my items. It does have a little shelf built in, so I put things there that I reach for constantly, like tape runner, foam tape, and a few journaling cards. Also, if I have items that I want to "use up" like an almost used sticker sheet, I will leave that there too. As for rummaging through my things, I tend to spread out. I put things on the floor... I put things on the coffee table... I put things on the bed... literally wherever. I make sure to put everything back once the layout is complete. If it's something I know I will not need again at all for this layout, like alphas, I will put it back right away just to cut down on the mess lol.

I think my process is similar to yours kmage . I have a small footprint of open deskspace. I have about 30" of open desk space for creating. Everywhere else is supplies. So if I take down a basket of ephemera to look through, it's on top of my layout-in-progress while I look through it...or in my lap. However, when I sit at my desk, my supplies encircle me - I have shelves on all sides, as the "gap" where I get to my desk is filled by my alex unit and raskog unit that I move out once i'm seated. and this Spring, we put up some ikea shelves that have baskets that pull in/out like drawers...so I pull out the "drawer", and search through my stamps/dies/thickers right where they live, without having to take the basket to my desk. Similar to this, although I only have 2 drawers at about waist height, and more shelves, no hanging space obviously

I have a U shaped desk (three Ikea tables in a U shape). I do my work on one table, so my layout or card will be on that table. One table holds my electronic cutters/die cut machine and one holds my most used supplies, some desktop organizers, etc. When I am crafting, I pull things out and set them on that table.

kmage , I have two work counters in my scraproom. They are a couple of steps apart. The "plan" was that I would do my cutting and other prep on one counter (has my big Fiscar's trimmer and a stack of mats: one for stamping, a self healing one for Xacto knife work, and a glass one for use with other cutting tools.) Then I could assemble on the other counter. It is long enough that in theory I could lay out two 12x12 pages side by side and still have lots of room to stack options for embellishments, photos, etc. In reality, both counters are pretty cluttered and I end up working in a space barely large enough for one page. But I can always stack them one on top of the other, work on the top one, then move it over on top of the pile of scraps or whatever is to the side and still see how it looks with the second page. I like that I can step easily from one to the other, reach all of the items I like to use. Also my Vagabond and Minc are just around the corner, so I can cut &/or foil elements when needed. I prefer stand-up crafting, so it works for me.
For longer lasting projects, like Christmas cards, I grab all the supplies I might be using, and organize them into a "Sticker Stadium" I can easily move that stadium into the dining room to craft with friends, or set it up on one counter and then make my cards on the other. I have even loaded it up and taken it to someone else's home to make cards.

I don't have a separate craft room; my stash is stored in my bedroom. I've reached the point where I have a good desk to scrap on, so that is much more convenient. My bed & my desk are very close to each other, so if I have to go through a box of stamps/dies or anything like that, I'll use the bed and worry about putting it back in it's spot later.

I used to have a slide out table that fit under my desk that I would pull out for situations like this. I ended up getting rid of it because I wanted an Alex drawer to fit under my table instead and the slide out table didn't fit anymore with the Alex. Now if I need to spread out I just use a card table in the living room or use the kitchen table because my desk in the office is usually a mess.

www.joann.com/sullivans-adjustable-home-hobby-table/16950297.htmlI have a table like this. It sits next to my scrap desk. I normally only have one side up, but when I need more space or someone want to come craft with me I raise both sides. It's also great for cutting sewing patterns. And - it has adjustable legs to change the height from sitting to standing. I love it!

I get where you are coming from kmage, and my process sounds very similar to yours. I recently put up a (small) desk in our loft space, but before that it was get my supplies out to the kitchen table, decide I need something else, go to the office grab it, decide it wasn't right, grab something else...and on it goes. One thing I did that has helped is to change my process a bit by making "kits"...not to say that I kit up everything, but sometimes when I want to do something crafty, I will just spend time gathering together the things that I like and I want to use together. This way I do the "audition" portion before I scrap, and then when I sit down to work I tend to just use what I have and make it work. I do tend to be inclusive in my kits as I want to use lots of supplies, so I do tend to grab lots, but then it is together for me and I know it is all going to work.

Thanks infochick. I think that is really what I need to do. Then I am not sorting through supplies that don't matter or apply to what I am working on. So if I am working on music pics, grab stamps, cards, paper, etc..and "shop" my space before I sit down. That way I am not trying to dig thru stuff on top of an in progress LO. That was what was really bugging me. I have lost so much stuff that way, or I knock stuff down or it sticks to the bottom of whatever bin I am digging thru...

I have two workspaces in an L shape so I can easily spread out and do what you are doing, but without putting things away/moving them. I have also pulled in a folding side table to keep extra things when I need to. And then there are piles all around my room!

I have also pulled in a folding side table to keep extra things when I need to. And then there are piles all around my room! I have gone the expensive but saves me thousands in the end way of a stand up desk that scrap box used to offer which has a multitude of drawers for storing everything including my pl cards, has a clear top so you can see what you’re looking for before you open the drawer AND has a pull out drawer accessory under the table top for my huge (12x12) fiskars trimmer so I can store that too and use it without having to pull it up into the table top all the time. Very expensive initially but I use so much more of my stash and save so much time that it is one of my favourite purchases in my house
