Don’t get anecdotal information. It’s useless. Do what your doctor says.

ALL of them, every single one, is saying the same thing about Covid vaccination and pregnancy. Having had 2 very, very ill women in ICU this week, all perfectly healthy until this hit, one transferred out to get ECMO, and another very sick but not in ICU yet in the first trimester, I cannot stress this enough. I hear a lot of bullshit reasons but I see what can actually happen.

Melissa, also, what are the maternity-based organizations? I googled ‘should pregnant women get vaxxed’ and the only reliable source was the CDC. Everything else was not reliable.

Pregnant women who are not vaccinated should get vaccinated. Pregnant women who are not boosted and are eligible for a booster should get it. Pregnancy is NOT a contraindication to vaccination. Pregnancy is a high risk group.

Pretty much every major organization…. To start with, there was the ACOG and SMFM statement this spring. And going back further, in January 2021, they both said that a Covid vaccination should not be withheld from pregnant women who wanted to be vaccinated with the mRNA vaccines available at that time. ACOG is the major OBGYN organization in the US and provides the standards we all practice by. SMFM is the organization for the maternal fetal medicine specialists (aka high risk obgyn). The American College of Nurse Midwives and the American College of Physicians as well all support this.

My Ob/gyn office (probably one of the largest practices in our city) sent out an email to all their patients this week "A Special Request from..." Basically pleading pregnant patients and others to get vaccinated.
Many paragraphs but basically it was like, yes we are all exhausted regarding COVID but you need to get the vaccines and boosters, especially people who are pregnant. They have personally witnessed the worst as to what can happen if you are pregnant and get covid. They go on to say "Unfortunately there is nothing we can do once you get covid other than manage your symptoms or give you tylenol for a fever"
The letter was very straight forward and I am glad they did this. They want the best for their patients and for healthy pregnancies.
