I've read on the cdc, etc., but am looking to hear some real life experiences. What was your MD recommendations on getting a vaccine or booster during pregnancy?
We have a grandbaby on the way, mom/dad are due to get a booster. She'll be talking with her OB next week at her first appt about what the recommendations are for her. She'll be 2nd trimester around the first of the year. Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this and what was recommended.

I am like 99% sure her OBGYN will tell her (and her dh) to get the booster. They are seeing an increase of Covid in pregnant moms. It is always best to protect your newborn who can't be vaccinated and will be in a hospital setting.

My DD also was vaccinated with the Pfizer shot while pregnant. She had no issues, & my granddaughter is perfectly fine. She did this after talking with her OB.

My son's partner is a maternal fetal specialist in high risk pregnancies. He's recommending that all his patients be vaccinated.
If she is unvaccinated, the hospital may not let her have visitors. If, God forbid, something happens and the baby needs to be in the NICU, she may be considered a visitor and may not be allowed to visit the baby. That's how it works at his hospital.

Both my DDs had both their vaccinations while pregnant at differing stages.

My DD's OB recommended it. She's had both doses and is due in January. She just felt a little blah on the second one but otherwise has been fine.

Here they wait to vaccinate/booster until the second trimester. But her OB will know better than us. If she doesn’t trust her OB, now is the time to find another STAT.

I delivered in March 2021 before Covid vaccines were being recommended to pregnant women. I waited until I was a few weeks postpartum to get my vaccine. My only regret is not pushing harder to get vaccinated, even just one dose, while pregnant. But we didn’t know what we do now.

I had both of my doses of vaccine before I got pregnant this summer, but just had my Pfizer booster last week. I had been talking with my OB about the booster since August and she recommended I get it in the later part of my second trimester. I turned 28 weeks on Friday. I had minimal side effects with the first dose back in early April - just a sore arm really that lasted 12 hours or so. No side effects with the second dose. Last week, I had the sore arm again but then overnight my glands in my armpit got swollen and hurt like hell for 3 days. To me, it was a sign that my body was doing what it was supposed to do and making antibodies to fight off Covid so even though it was uncomfortable, it was totally worth it and I'd do it again if necessary.

My pregnant friend just got her booster shot. It was very, very, very much recommended and encouraged by her gynecologist and midwife (medically trained midwives are the main pregnancy and birth people in most of Western Europe).

At my work (in prison) it's been approved (through CDC).. all our pregnant offenders have been given the shot/booster with no problems at this point.

As always she should discuss it with her Dr who knows her specific medical issues.
But in general I haven’t heard of any issues with it. I haven’t looked for issues though either since I don’t know anyone who is pregnant. I’ve only heard of the horror stories of unvaccinated people getting Covid and leaving a newborn without a mother. I haven’t looked for those either but they show up in newsfeeds anyway.
Thoughts & prayers for a healthy mom & baby

My dil had both does of the vaccine while pregnant -- and my granddaughter is just fine (actually she is pretty fabulous and I can't wait to see her in Philly next week!).

I have no experience, but on the news they were saying how it is especially important that pregnant women and anyone that lives with them be vaccinated to keep them and the baby safe. It's the unvaccinated that are in danger.

My daughter is due on January 2nd. She had both Moderna shots last spring and got her booster recently on the advice of her OB. Pregnancy is going well and the little fellow is on track with development!

One of my old classmates from high school just got pregnant after several complications and losses and struggles. She had the baby and even with being so high risk and all of her past complications she was still able to get vaxxed during pregnancy.

My dd, niece and their bff all were fully vaxxed during their recent pregnancies. None had terrible side effects.
They do all happen to go to the same OB group but different doctors.
Another one of their friends who did in vitro was asked to wait until after the 1st trimester.

I keep remembering Melissa's words about this topic: I don’t get it they have been encouraging women who are pregnant to get the vaccine. Begging. We are begging pregnant and breastfeeding women to get vaccinated.

I recently talked to someone who is a nurse on the maternity ward and she said that in the beginning of the pandemic they were really only finding out that moms had Covid because they were testing everyone. The women weren’t having major complications. But now they are seeing (unvaccinated) women who are severely Ill and not making it. She attributed it to Delta but it’s unclear. Either way, I would be getting the vaccine unless there were extenuating circumstances.

My daughter had both Pfizer doses in her recent pregnancy. Highly recommended by her OB to protect her and give the baby some antibodies.

Glad to have the feedback! Was uncertain if they'd want her to wait until her 2nd trimester...but she's almost there even if they do. Hopefully they'll get their boosters pretty quickly now.

My dd just got her booster and she is due on May 14. She is an rn in the icu unit and has unfortunately had pregnant patients who have been unvaccinated and have not made it.

Yes, yes, yes! I’m an OBGYN nurse, we have had multiple mommas on vents when pregnant, numerous miscarriages and fetal demises to Covid positive moms (autopsy’s done on babies showed decrease in oxygenation… not sure if due to decreased blood flow occurred or if due to moms decreased oxygen, regardless, it is happing and is heart breaking. We have had zero issues with moms getting the vaccine while pregnant, even breakthrough cases, both moms and babies have done great if mom got the vaccine.

The Ministry of Health government advice here in New Zealand is that all pregnant women should get vaccinated and that the Pfizer vaccine is safe at any stage of pregnancy.
Real world data shows that if someone contracts COVID-19 when pregnant they are more likely to become very unwell and the MOH was also reporting that there is a higher risk of very pre-term birth in unvaccinated women.
