Wow, what a lot to have on your plate all at once. Hopefully things will settle into a routine soon and you can get on with living your best life.

You made me tired just reading this. Knock it off so I can get some rest. Yeesh. hahaha!! thanks, that actually makes me feel better. thanks to everyone for your comments and good wishes! I'm not good enough with the quote feature to quote everyone I'd like, so I'll just comment... We live just north of I-44 (you can hear some interstate traffic now that the leaves are off the trees), about an hour west/south of St. Louis. The next 'major' town on the interstate is Sullivan, MO (I put major in quotes because its population is only about 6500, lol). My DH researched the internet situation here a LOT, and we decided (at least for now) that we would be able to manage with using our AT&T cell phone plan's hotspot abilities for streaming. Which means we will have to ration our streaming TV and home internet usage. But for now, that's okay... there just isn't high-speed internet (or any internet) to this area at all; our other choice would have been getting internet from a "Satellite Internet" company, and those are expensive. At least this way we also get the unlimited data from the cell phone along with it. (oddly enough, the cell phone coverage is great, even out in the woods! go figure!!) The pets have been okay with the move, for the most part. Our dogs are not 'outdoor' dogs, by any stretch, lol. They're getting tired of being on a leash to do their business outside (and we're getting tired of doing that, too). One of the first major home improvement projects will be a fenced in backyard for them to run around in. I do not trust them without a leash-- they don't listen to me as much as to my DH, and even though the entire property is fenced, they're small enough they could get out, and who the heck knows what tree root / limb they'd get stuck on in the middle of the woods. The cats are enjoying the bird feeders on the back deck, for sure! Good 'kitty TV' action, at least when there's bird seed... they can empty that feeder in a couple days. But since it's colder here than they're used to, right now they're doing a lot of snuggling and hibernating on the down comforter. The wildlife (mostly birds, so far) has been pretty cool- one day I saw six chickadees at the feeder at once, and there are bluejays, tufted titmice, finches, woodpeckers, etc. There is even a PILEATED WOODPECKER (!!!) that lives on this property!!! I've seen it twice so far; it's one of the largest N. American birds, and one I *never* thought I would see, ever. There are some other birds around; our next neighbor over has chickens, and has a rooster that can NOT tell time-- it crows all.day.long!! My DH is mostly recovered from the cellulitis infection... thanks for your good wishes! That was the first time he had ever stayed overnight in the hospital since once when he was a kid... when he does something, he does it good, I guess. He got released from the hospital ON HIS BIRTHDAY, too. Last year he had COVID for his birthday, this year, a hospital stay. lol. He got some VERY good care from the staff there; he was just miserable with pain and a horrendous headache from the infection. Once he woke up from the surgery to drain the abscess, he said it was like a light switch- the pain was just gone. We will never ignore anything like that ever again, that's for sure! One thing I did want to make sure to comment on is cindyupnorth's comment that it (oddly) seems 'southern' around here. Which I totally agree with! We're not close to the Ozarks here at all, but 'Ozarkland' tourist trap is just up the interstate about 10 miles, and they do seem to play up the 'hillbilly / hick / hayseed' thing with their advertising for barbecue restaurants, etc. I don't quite understand that, myself. I never would have thought of central Missouri as 'Southern' at all. And thanks for the good wishes for my mom; she's had a tough time of it since Dad passed away-- they were together for 62 years. So I understand her feelings, even though she's 'Mom' and I always thought she'd be around, you know what I mean? Being an adult and getting old sucks big time, sometimes. anyway, I'm glad to be back in the Midwest, for the most part, even if I do miss the grocery stores in Phoenix! (I also miss the cheap produce prices in AZ; I paid $1.25 for a bunch of cilantro here the other day, and at the Mexican markets in AZ, I could buy 4 bunches for $1!!) I just can't wait to plant flowers, vegetables (and to start my fight with the deer, keeping them from eating it all, lol), and YES-- come on, Daylight Savings Time!! lol!!

Welcome to Missouri! I live in St Louis so if you're ever in the area, let me know. I never get why Missouri thinks it's southern. (I hear it pronounced Mizzour-ah sometimes, instead of Missour-EE). I lived in NC (borderline southern IMO), SC and GA (definitely southern). Here? No.

Huge hugs to you. Prayers on all of the medical stuff. How scary!!! We moved from very city-like towns to a very rural area in FL over 10 years ago. What a huge change!!!! No one wanted to come visit us. The change was so much more enormous than we realized. Doctors and hospitals were completely different. People here were completely different. Groceries are completely different. Even chain restaurants are different. Who knew??? Unless you're used to a progressive, Medically wonderful area that you're used to, the change can seem enormous.
Where we moved, it's almost impossible to find real friends. People here move every year or less. I hope it's different where you are.
Most of all, I wish your mom and DH the best with their medical woes. I hope you'll get used to the rural life, or I hope that you could move if you can!

You saw a pilleated woodpecker on your rural property; I saw a rat in my alley. But the Midwest is all the same, amirite? Welcome back to it.

Wow, glad to hear your update but so sorry to read about your mom. My mom had a bone marrow biopsy for multiple myeloma a few days ago. Praying you start to feel more and more settled. You will get there!
