hi, Peas... I finally logged back in again after what seems like forever!! a quick update on me and our move from AZ to MO... (not so quick after all; I can't make anything brief, I guess- lol)
FIRST, living in a rural area and having no internet at home sucks!! I didn't know how much, lol. We're using hotspot date from our phones for internet access when we're at home. So I doubt I'll be on here much till I get a job.
Our move went as smoothly as possible (when doing it yourself)...
A huge Thank you!!! to the Peas who have sent me cards in the holiday card swap!! (my cards are on their way, finally) Your cards are making it feel a little more festive (no time to put up Christmas decorations) here, and once I manage my hotspot data better (too much streaming shows on Amazon Prime, lol) so I can hang out here regularly again, THAT will make it feel like home, too. I've missed you guys, and missed out on way too much stuff.

- They cancelled our truck the day before we were going to pick it up to load up our stuff!! Apparently there are so many people moving that they're driving to AZ from CA to get trucks, so there aren't enough trucks in AZ for the people who want them. My DH raised he!l with the moving company and they magically found one that was just done getting repaired. whew.
- The move with the pets went pretty good- 3 dogs and 2 cats in my car. We stayed at a Motel 6 the second night, upstairs. None of our dogs knew how to go up/down stairs! Carrying a 30 lb dog down the stairs in the dark to go potty is NOT fun. lol.
- The moving truck couldn't turn the corner to get into our driveway-- there was a pine branch in the way!! I had to drive into town (8 miles) to buy a tree saw, drive back, and luckily, my DH had put the ladder at the very back of the truck. He had to saw off the lowest branch so he could pull into the driveway. (and even then, I was skeptical- thank goodness he's a professional truck driver!)
- Our house in AZ got an offer on it even before it was officially on the market! yay!! It sold for asking price, and they wanted our 10+ yr old washer / dryer (one less thing to pack).
- After unpacking the truck and returning it, my DH returned to AZ to finish packing up the house and stay in it till the house sale closed. It stunk, being here by myself for almost a month.
- We haven't been able to explore our property yet, except for one short walk thru the woods... too many other things to do.
- I've already driven to visit my Mom once, and will be going as often as possible. She's on her 3rd or 4th cocktail of drugs for her multiple myeloma- the last drug her Dr. tried put her in the hospital with the side effect of an enlarged heart, VERY low RBC count and low oxygen, and she needed 2-3 units of blood + breathing treatments and prednisone to get it under control again-- she's back at home now, but on oxygen. I think the next / most recent drug will probably be the last one she'll agree to. She's tired of the trips back/forth to the cancer center, and very afraid of what the end stages of multiple myeloma will look like- she said if her caregiver hadn't called the ambulance when she had trouble breathing, she probably wouldn't have called them herself. I am a 7 hour drive away now, instead of a plane flight+ car rental, which is one of the main reasons we moved. But it's still going to be tough. sigh.
- My DH was in the hospital for 5 days a couple weeks ago!! He was kind of fatigued when he got to MO with the second moving truck- we didn't think much of it. He had a small sore under his right arm, which we figured was a boil / infected hair follicle. We didn't think that much of it. When he had a fever of 101.7, we went to the urgent care. The PA there said it was cellulitis, and gave him a Rx antibiotic. A couple days later, I drove to visit my mom; we figured he would be doing better with the antibiotics. The second day I was at my mom's, he called me and said he was driving himself to the ER! So I drove back to MO in the middle of the night. His underarm / pectoral area had swelled up sooo much the skin was almost splitting! Even the IV antibiotics in the hospital wouldn't do ANYTHING to reduce it; he was in so much pain, he was miserable. He ended up having surgery to drain an abscess in his underarm area, which finally allowed the medications to start working. Thankfully it was NOT MRSA, just a very stubborn Staph infection. (and we haven't seen ANY bills for this stay yet-- so much for our house sale proceeds...) Sigh. again.
- We still don't have the house fully set up and arranged; it took until the middle of last week to get the new carpeting installed. Sigh. But now we can start making it feel like 'home' finally.
- Now that my DH has started his job, I can start looking for work-- we needed to know what his hours were going to be before I could start to look... he will be working some long days with an hour+ commute one way, since his truck terminal is in northern St Louis.
- Sometimes I feel like 'what the heck was I thinking' in suggesting this move... it feels 'foreign' here, even though it's the Midwest, which should be somewhat familiar to me. I've had some bad days here and there; living in the country is so different than the suburbs! Hopefully it will be a lot better in the spring, once I can start gardening in earnest and enjoying the outdoors.
