I’m on a teacher message board and have already seen lots of posting about schools doing virtual tomorrow. I’m afraid that the more credit that is given to these “TikTok trends” the more this will happen.
We have a school in the district that has found weapons and just last week a BB gun on a kid, but we are not changing anything for tomorrow except there will probably be some upper admin present on our secondary campuses.
If my child was truly afraid I would strongly consider keeping them home, but so far neither of my kids has said a word to me about either of the two times there were supposed threats.

Got an email about the threats yesterday but apparently overnight at least one threat became credible because I got a call at 5:30 that school was canceled. It been a complete shit show in the last few weeks with threats, fake guns brought to school, an overdose in a classroom, 3 suicide attempts at school and several more off campus. And to top it off we have a new head of schools who is a complete idiot, I really hope he gets canned at the end of the year.

I didn't hear anything about it until the school sent out a note. They feel it is not a credible threat, but to hopefully make anyone concerned feel more comfortable they have brought in extra security to all schools for the day.

I sent my 8th grader and I am sick about it.
She hadn’t even heard about the tik tok thing so I ended up causing her more anxiety.
I am so sick of this sh*t world we live in.
We got a call from the school and the BOE.

I really wish our country and a portion of our politicians loved their children much as their guns.
I wish a life outside the womb was as important as one inside the womb.
Year 20 of my teaching career… not sure I can do it any longer. I’m broken and beat down. If one more person tells me to self-care I will throat punch them.
Just so broken. It makes me so sad. I was born for this. This is an essential part of who I am. I don’t even know who or what I am without it, but dang…

No direct threats here but the community has had contact from administration about the nationwide threat.
We have a dire shortage of bus drivers so some routes needed to be consolidated this week. I suspect some have Covid. Today’s our last day. One bus has been quarantined due to five cases turning up on that bus—which had been consolidated in the last week due to driver shortage. So that’s one bus of students who won’t be coming to school today. 😨
In suspect that between both of these things a lot of families will choose to keep their children home. I would. I’m headed in to work soon and I don’t want to go.

So yes, republicans value guns over children. Everyday if the week, 24/7. |

One easy step schools can take to make children safer is to educate families on safe weapon storage. Over 50% of gun owners leave guns unsecured in the home. It's estimated that over 5 million children live in homes with unsecured weapons. Send schools this info and insist on a pledge to educate the families in their district. Be Smart For Kids |

Our district sent out an email about this, and urged parents to talk to their kids about not sharing social media posts that lead to fear without specific information. They said to have them talk to a trusted adult about the post, but not to share it since it just creates hysteria. I think that is a good point.
Some local schools did close today, saying that their particular schools were supposedly mentioned in some of the posts, but also didn't provide much concrete info.

Between the absolute lack of respect and compassion for teachers, the actual school violence and this absolute f*ckery, I'm really just done. I am surprised your school did not send something out to parents. I'd at least call and ask if they are aware of the situation. Never have I wanted to quit teaching so badly. I thought last year was bad. This year is a nightmare. |

My BFF texted me about this last night. She has a child in kindergarten and the elementary school is being operated in a modified lockdown today due to hateful messages. One message indicated harm to school community, written on a portal potty and exterior door on a school building. They were able to tell from security footage that the source of the message was not a student. They are taking the threat seriously, though they don't believe it to be credible, and have added safety/security personnel. My BFF kept her child home from school today out of caution. I feel bad for the little kids that are missing out on the last day before the holiday break as I'm sure there were fun activities planned.  |

Two more classes and we're all still here! I'm honestly more concerned about all the coughs and snotty noses I've seen at school today than about some TikTok thing. Parents with clearly sick kids, clearly trying to eke out one more day of freedom before they get their kids home for two weeks.

Made it thru the day with no incidences at my site/district.
I had more kids than usual out but nothing too crazy. My home room had the most out from my 7 periods- I think 8? I have 25 kids. Of those 8, 3 are on quarantine anyway. The rest of my classes had 2-3 out each.

However every boys toilet ended up stuff with paper towels...wth is that about? We have 3 boys bathrooms on campus (K-3, 4-8, cafeteria) and 2 of them had busted sinks today. Fun times. UGH! I can't wait for this shit to be done. |

Our schools were canceled on Monday. There was a photo of a gun at a school posted. I heard they caught the kids.
