Tomorrow is our last day before break - but there's shooting and bomb threats nationwide? Is anyone else following this because I swear to God parenting gets harder everyday and I don't know if I'm supposed to send my Kindergartener to school or not.

I know it is some tik tok thing. My district has not said anything and I'm not worried.

It's one of those TikTok challenge things like "slap a teacher." We got a message about it from our principal, and our local law enforcement agencies are aware of it, but do not consider it a "credible threat." abc7chicago.com/tiktok-school-threat-december-17-shooting-bomb-social-media-to-schools/11348760/I'm so absolutely over this school year. Between the absolute lack of respect and compassion for teachers, the actual school violence and this absolute f*ckery, I'm really just done. I am surprised your school did not send something out to parents. I'd at least call and ask if they are aware of the situation.

I mean, we have over 200 schools in my district. Where’s the threat?

Our district sent an announcement. They did not seem concerned. The kid is trying to stay home tomorrow, and I’m not having it.

I'm already jumpy because Oxford was one county away from us and there's been so many copycat threats nearby. Then all of a sudden to see "nationwide." I'm ready for break to begin but I want DS to enjoy his class party and whatnot. 💙
As of now we're in person in January but I also have this gut feeling that virtual is going to happen with covid.

Our district sent something out. They’ve learned to. I’m wondering how many kids will just stay home.
We will have more police in our buildings.

One of the major high schools here is closed today because of “staff shortages” that may relate to threats.

My granddaughter’s school sent out a notice for parents to check their children’s social media accounts, and more police will be in the school.

I’m not a teacher, but I work at a school and follow teacher subreddits. It was on r/Teachers tonight, so I scoped out my anonymous TikTok account (I’m not weird, I just like to be informed) and it is all over the place on TT. My district has not sent anything out.

I’m live in Oakland county (as is my school), the same as Oxford. Many threats, fortunately many arrests and some school districts have gone virtual since Oxford because of threats. So glad that break starts after tomorrow.

My district sent us an email about it. My kids' high school already went into lockdown once this week because someone might have had a weapon (they didn't find anything), someone was caught with a bb gun at the school right after the school shooting in Michigan, and there was another lockdown earlier this year. I'm sending my kids to school tomorrow, but I am so over this crap

My daughter is keeping my grandson home. She's extra nervous already anyway because the high school in his district had a separate threat just last week.

Our district sent out a letter as well.
It just sucks for so many reasons. Mainly because despite the fact that it is just likely a "challenge" kids do have easy access to guns to make it a reality.

Until the last few weeks I hadn’t thought metal detectors were necessary in schools but now I think it is a good idea. My 7th grader has been having some anxiety about threats and safety at school. It sucks for kids to have to worry about this.

I’m a teacher. I will be at school tomorrow. My 5th grader and k kid will be at my school with me. I trust my kids and families to be eyes and ears and report anything. As a site, we reminded the kids o make good choices and alert us to anything that could be something. A few were worried about “snitching” and I assured them that names arren’t revealed and it’s not snitching if it keeps people safe and alive. We got an email from our superintendent and a message from our deputy assigned to our district. I do have kids who will stay home tomorrow and that just sucks. We have Christmas parties and fun stuff planned. But parents need to do what they are comfortable with for their own kids. My students have a math test scheduled. Those who miss will have to take it after break when the info isn’t so fresh,.
The district I live in (but don’t teach in) had a HS lockdown this week after social media posts talked about shooting up a school. School was searched, no weapons found. Social media was searched and able to be traced back to a kid who was apparently arrested today.

I'm sorry the kids will miss tomorrow. My one and only memory of 5th grade is essentially your tomorrow. Almost as sad for the kids that have the belated math test. But damn, I wouldn't want to send my child, either. I'm so sorry for this ugliness, but I would be "that parent" that likely kept my kid home. My sister is homeschooling her daughter, and, although my sister is super intelligent.. I really am sad my niece is missing the moments with others. My sister is amazing, and she has a small homeschool group, so I'm super hopeful all will be well, but I can't imagine not going to "school" when she has no siblings close in age.

My ds ended up being done on Tuesday his week; the school changed to W-F being teacher work days. I think Covid/staff shortage related though. I just can’t even with school violence.

My kids are out of high school but received the general notification from out district. Nothing closed here, just monitoring. I honestly want to throat punch someone. Schools have enough to deal with without social media challenges of asshatery. I'm sorry for all those having to deal with it directly!

I’m subbing in an ES tomorrow. You are brave! And not because of the Tik Tok thing but just because you agreed to sub on the last day before vacation! hahaha I did it for the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week as a favor to a favorite 3rd grade teacher. But I turned down the 2nd grade teacher who asked me to sub yesterday and today, despite the bribe -- er...I mean "incentive" -- offered by the county of double pay. In the 3rd grade I knew the teacher and her classroom standards, and the other two 3rd grade teachers are a complete team with her so I knew they'd step in and help if needed. But the 2nd grade....nope.

It’s finals week in a lot of schools here so kids are not in class as normal. We’ve heard about it, but not a big amount of attention is really being given to it that I see.

But the 2nd grade....nope. Man, I wish that FCPS was offering double pay! I was a 6th grade teacher M-W, with a staff group I know very well (I’m going to long-term sub for one in April for family leave), and it was much harder than usual because of the week before break. Everyone is squirrely. Today, I am back in the ID classroom that I subbed in my first day - I am not worried about those kids at all, nor really the others at this ES. If I were in MS or HS, I’d be more concerned. It will be a long day though, and I’m looking forward to winter break, even though it means no pay.

Our school district closed even though the threat is not credible. The parents who whined nonstop about masks and remote learning last year due to covid are now saying they won't send their kids to school because of a non credible threat. We always get "threats" before Christmas break which starts next Thursday. The kids want to start break earlier.
We had two boys (freshman and sophomore) that committed suicide in the past two weeks. One was due to bullying by two football players, not sure about the other.

When my oldest was a junior, there was a non credible threat the last day before winter break. The police investigated and it was not credible. There were 2 girls bullying this boy and they said he started it. So the girls really started it. Many kept their kids home. I sent my kids because the police and school investigated. They were mad (not scared, they just wanted the day off). They told me that day that it was their best day of school! They had fun and some teachers gave them "extra credit" assignment because they came to school.
