I have a new scan and cut, I’m trying to cut on vinyl and it is just not working. It keeps moving on me. I want to put a saying on apron. I just got my machine right after Thanksgiving, have I worn out the mat already?

Unfortunately, probably. I’ve had a Cricut, two Silhouettes, and now a Scan and Cut. The Scan and Cut mats by FAR are the worst mats. I got maybe five or six uses out of the mat that came with the machine before I had to tape the paper down. The second mat I bought has been better, but still not great. And no one that I can see makes a generic mat except one from overseas (I’m in the US) and shipping was expensive last time I looked.

I use blue painters tape to secure the corners on my mat because they just don't stay sticky for long and I refuse to keep buying mats.

You can clean the mat in the tub with a scrubbie brush and a little dish detergent. When it dries it will be more sticky again, not back to the original stickiness, but better.
I've seen people use pixie spray or washi tape to hold paper down, but the manufacturer warns against it. I don't know why pixie spray would damage the machine though. If you spray the piece you want to stick down (outside, following the instructions) and then put it on your mat there shouldn't be anything to gum anything up, assuming that would even be possible.

I tried using Washi, and it nearly ruined my machine. It came off and got caught inside, right where it scans. I did eventually get the Washi tape out, but I strongly recommend you gently wash the mat rather than tape things to it.
I clean and then re-sticky my Silhouette mats using Zig two way glue. Once it’s dry, it’s tacky. I can’t remember if I have also done it to my Scan-N-Cut mats, too, but I think I have. Just be sure to only apply the Zig glue to the area that is supposed to be tacky, and avoid the outer border.

You can tape off the edges up to the sticky area then spray the mat with repositionalable adhesive. Let it dry and pull off the tape

Thank you everyone. I clean it is working better. I ordered one from Amazon and it won’t in my machine. So have to send back. I did not realize that the mats are coded, the one I got was for a older machine I guess. I finally figured how to cut vinyl I wasn’t doing it as a half of cut. Thanks again
