I was just reminiscing in the other thread that artbabe started about how Making Memories started the shaped paper trend and it got me to thinking. Back in the day, I ADORED Making Memories and (in my mind), they were definitely the trendsetter/"it girl" of scrapbooking. I remember that they kind of started to branch out into non-paper lines (by focusing on the Slice, that weird Bravissimo award thing), but it's still pretty crazy to me that the company ended when so many of their products were iconic. (Remember how for a while, it was impossible to get your hands on that wood carousel storage thing?) IIRC, their shutdown was somewhat abrupt too. I don't remember many of the details. Any Peas remember more about why/when/how the company ended? I think there was also some sort of public (acrimonious) parting of ways with Margie Romney-Aslett.

I remember when that weird award line came out and I do think it was around the time they let MMA go. It is such a shame, because they were so innovative and had the best tools and some of the cutest lines. I remember when Noteworthy came out how we all went crazy trying to get every sniblet of it. It was such a beautiful line. I think they hung around for a bit with the award line, I can’t imagine why they thought that would ever be enough to sustain them or why they didn’t keep cranking out scrapbooking product while exploring other avenues.
I don’t recall any specifics other then none of us on the old pea board could figure out what happened.

It was such a beautiful line. Ugh, I loved Noteworthy so much! I still have some hoarded. Funny papercrafting snob story: as I mentioned in the other thread, I worked for an LSS for just under a year in a large city, then moved to a much smaller city. Noteworthy had come out while I was working at the LSS and I think I had heard of Noteworthy 2 either online or from my old store. My new city had a scrapbook store but it was much smaller and less trendy, more older brands/theme-oriented. Anyway, when I went in there, the owner was there and she introduced herself, then we talked for a bit. At the end, I asked her if she was going to be carrying the new Noteworthy 2 collection and she had no idea what I was talking about. I remember leaving thinking, "Well, OBVIOUSLY she doesn't keep up with scrapbooking trends!" Haha, I was actually (lightheartedly) offended she didn't know what it was!

I still use the tools in that Making Memories tool set that came in the metal box.
They also had a line of products that consisted of vintage ephemera and doo-dads. I loved it- it really fit with my style of scrapping at the time
I loved the metal letters, words, and phrases. I couldn't get enough of them.

For a while, almost everything they produced was GREAT...and I couldn't wait to get it. I was shocked when they stopped producing things. They had to be making a fortune.

Yep - have the metal box + i still have all the paints, a few foam stamps, etc. I was just thinking the other day how much I loved MM back in the day.

I have never had a better paper trimmer than my MM ones. Yes! I used mine for years until it finally broke. Still missing it.

I remember going to CHA (I think it was the 2010 show) and they had a huge booth showcasing a new DIY jewelry line. They had make & takes to create a necklace (I still have mine!).
They had a paper collection that was very spring/pastel colors (was it called flower garden?). It was so lovely; I would love to get my hands on some but I haven't seen secondhand MM products in YEARS!

My wood tool spinner thingy is an original MM from when Michaels still sold name brand stuff. I am mad at myself for putting off buying the embellishment center. Then I procrastinated even further and I missed out on the Recollections one. I think I might try making my own.

I loved their definition stickers and rub-ons. They were true innovators.
I still have my MM paper piercer. That thing has seen me through so many layouts.
I worked at their Memories scrapbook store and always spent more than I made…Good times!

I still have some Noteworthy. It's destined for my son's baby book (he's only 14, plenty of time to work on that). I do miss that company. I loved just about everything they had back in the day from metals to paints to raw chipboard. I owned it all. Never could get their foam stamps to look decent. And just the other day I did a project that I really needed eyelets for, dang those are had to find these days.

I don't know why they shut down so quickly. I was EXTREMELY annoyed they bought a long time local scrapbook store, made it a Making Memories store and it was probably closed within a couple of years.

I haven't seen secondhand MM products in YEARS! I live in a small town. There's a store with a little bit of everything. It was less than five years ago they clearanced their MM metal embellishments. I should go take a look. It's been a while.

I was a huge fan of Making Memories but especially their 'vintage findings' line. So many good pieces. I miss them and BG more than any other company.

I'm unaware of the reasons for the company's demise, but miss the Memories store stocked with the latest & greatest in papercrafting supplies.

I loved their definition stickers and rub-ons. They were true innovators. OMG their alphabet rub on letters! I loved those things and I think I still have some of them! I liked their eyelet tools and I still have them. (I even use them occasionally.) I also really liked the foam stamps and paint. Why I paid that much for paint, I’ll never know, but the pack of six coordinated colors looked so pretty. I loved the paint and big foam alphabet stamps. I recently had to toss a bunch of the paints that had dried up but I cannot get rid of those foam alphabet stamps!

Fun fact: I don’t keep hoards of product. But I have kept 2 packages of their polka dot cork alphabets in my stash and can’t bring myself to actually use them. They are my favorite alphabet, ever.

Wasn’t making memories Melody Ross’s company? If so her husband had a very serious accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury. They worked through that and tried to re invent themselves a few times. They are now traveling around in a bus doing “soul work’ melodyrossmedia.com/

I have never had a better paper trimmer than my MM ones. Oh how I miss my MM trimmer. I ruined it by accidentally cutting more than one sheet of heavy cardstock. The blade went wonky and got stuck in the cardstock. My dad tried to fix it and sharpen the blade but it would never cut straight after that. So sad.

MM was a definite favorite. I can't even count how many 6x6 and 9x9 album kits I made as gifts for people. I was sad when 8x8 became the "standard" for awhile - 9x9 was a little easier with 4x6 photos.
And how many collections I used - Animal Crackers - I used for a ton of baby albums. Whimsy. Spring Fling.
I loved a lot of their Slice designs - just didn't want to be limited to 4x4. I really wish they had released their Slice designs as Cricut cartridges. And when I still see the Slice cards on eBay, the designs have aged well.
Things still in my stash: Simply Stated alpha rub ons. They've held up surprisingly well. eyelets brads pewter/silver embellishments
8x8 paper packs + embellishment collections I'm still saving or using on specific projects: Chloe's Closet Sabrina Floral Cottage (?) - can't remember the name of a pastel floral collection I've used for Easter pages Love Story and Slice branded 8x8 pads with classic designs.

I worked in one of their brick and mortar stores here in SoCal. IMO, the stores were their downfall. Too expensive to maintain, trying to sell big ticket items (OG Sizzix, Quickutz, etc etc). Then the MM brand split off from the stores, but when they did that, they lost their best source of distribution. Consider it a lesson in what not to do when you own a business that is growing too fast.
