I mainly project life, but mix in occasional 12x12 layouts. I don’t typically put more than 3 photos on a 12x12 layout. I really don’t take that many pictures. Also, when I look at all the pictures from DS childhood, the pictures are pretty similar and I’m looking for the photos that best represent what I’m scrapping. Usually, 1-3 pictures are enough. Most of my double page layouts are going to be from a trip where I have more pictures.

I think I asked this question on the other thread, regarding those people who think that scrapping single photos is wasteful or pointless...... what do they do if they have a gorgeous photo of their kids or their pets or them with their spouse...... do they just not scrap it? Or do they put a lot of random unrelated photos together on one page? This is what I never understood. Sometimes all you have is one photo.

Or do they put a lot of random unrelated photos together on one page? This is what I never understood. Sometimes all you have is one photo. If I only have one photo I would probably do a single photo page BUT I would almost certainly want to use an enlargement, 5x7 or 8x10 at least. If I love a photo just because it's so pretty I want it to be big! Maybe some people would frame those photos rather than scrap them. Or they find a way to add more photos (saving it to compare with other similar photos in the future). It's so interesting to me that some people are all about the story and other people all about the photo or the art I've never thought of my scrapbooks like they are photo albums. I've never imagined not seeing scrapbooks as (fancy) photo albums! Facebook has been great for me, oddly enough. I've used it for over 10 years and every day they have what you posted that day in past years. I posted so many cute stories about the kids on there that I've been able to screengrab the entries and add them to my layouts. It has really helped filling holes in my memory. Social media absolutely counts as a kind of memory keeping in my book - it's a great source for in-the-moment journaling for a lot of people. I think that's part of why a lot of people don't do scrapbooking any more. They can get some of the same thing from looking at their Fbk.

What I personally find wasteful is when that one photo is thumbnail sized. A 2” square on a 12” page will never look balanced or worthwhile to me. A regular sized photo as a standalone picture is fine. I understand many people scrap for the process. Just to enjoy the act of it. And that’s fine, for them. No skin off my nose if someone finds it worthwhile to have albums of embellishments with tiny photos and no journaling. But for me, I always am thinking about the burden of the space these albums take up. To earn their space they need to be heavy with meaning. Photos and words and meaningful content. Hopefully the stuff my kids will find worth keeping down the line.

I’m like many of you - I scrap 12x12 and use as many or as little photos as I want. The occasion I’m scrapping does come into play - if it’s a birthday party there’s usually many photos, perhaps a two page spread. If it’s a class picture or a sports picture, I try to take the best picture and scrap that one. I don’t use a lot of embellishments (clusters are not easy for me) but I do like mixing different papers on a layout. I did the 100 Day Project earlier this year with joblackford and my project was to take one photo a day and journal about it for 100 days. I found out I really like doing that, so have done another book of 100 days since the end of September till now (it ends January 3rd). My photos are random things that happen each day and I love capturing the little day by day memories that we usually forget as time goes by. I devote two pages to three days (I’m using Webster’s Pages composition books) and 100 days fills the book up. I’ll try to upload some photos and add to this post. If I forget to take a photo, I look in my texts or on Facebook and grab a photo from my kids/grandkids and use that. I recently found Heidi Swapp’s new way of journaling ( Storyline/Stop the Blur) and ordered some of the stamps/books she uses for that. While I love making 12x12 pages, this new way of scrapping has kept me interested and excited to try something new. Edited to add: Here are several pages from my second 100 days book and here's a link to the first 100 day project we started earlier this year.

I just take too many photos to only do a 1 photo layout, and I'm too cheap to print in 5x7 as often as I'd want to in order to do a lot of one photo layouts. I have done a few, if I had a particular story I wanted to tell. I will be honest; I do much of my scrapping at these events that are called Paper Recipes workshops. We are sent out sketches with photo dimensions, and how much paper we need (so, say 3 double sided, a distressed background for the base). A full day is 13 layouts or so. I remember that 2 or 3 will be double page layouts & the rest will be singles. On singles we do 3-5 depending on size of the pics; on a double we'll 6+. Sometimes, depending on my photos, if her design is a single page, I will turn it into a double, if the actual double sketches don't work with the pics I want to scrap. For my personal albums, I always do 12x12. If it's a gift, I do 8x8. I am more interested in the stories than the design process so I love having a sketch to start from. And what's nice is we get an email copy of them so we can reuse them. Also very helpful if I want to turn something into a double but I don't have time when we're together.

How many photos do you do per page?...Are you a single photo or multiphoto scrapper? Do you do single pages or double page spreads? Twelve inch or smaller? I'm a single, clean, linear, story-focused, & theme-challenged scrapper who exclusively creates 12x12 albums with various sizes/configurations of page protectors. The majority of my layouts are 12x12 because I prefer a square canvas, include extensive journaling & actual memorabilia, & print 4x6 photos (sometimes trimmed to eliminate unwanted background or use 6x6 patterned papers as mats & occasionally enlarged to 5x7 or 8x10). Layouts are typically single pages, except for events that require 2+ pages. Each 12x12 layout may feature 0-3 (4x6) photos, although 1-2 are the norm.

I’m all over the place. 1 photo, 2, 3…just depends on what I’m scrapping.

Depends on the story I want to tell. Sometimes only 1 photo is needed. Other times 2 or 3 or 4 are needed.
Say we go to the pumpkin patch. I want to include a few from our day.
The kids in their Christmas pj's or Halloween costumes? One is all I need.

After about 6 years as an 8.5x11 scrapper I moved to 12 x 12 around 2004 and have kept to that size (except for the occasional mini album.)
I’m a linear scrapper and like to tell the story of the photos with journaling. Generally 2 or 3 photo, single page LOs with a catchy silhouette-cut title and a few embellishments. I love the look that others get with lots of embellishments but can’t quite get there. I do create a few 2 page LOs or single pages with a lot of smaller photos as I have a slight trigger finger problem with my camera and takes tons of pictures 😉

I scrap multiphoto. Lately, I have been making 3X4" photos so I can fit more on a page. I mostly scrap events, but usually do single photo layouts of the dogs and cats. I try to do 2 page spreads.

I am almost always a multi-photo per page scrapper. But, I've had my fair share of 1 photo pages. These are almost always featuring a photo larger than 4x6.
I do think there will be more and more 1 photo layouts in the future however, as my kids are almost out of the house, and there are just less photos.
I've been buying kits a lot the last couple of years, because it forces me to add more pictures, and makes me think of other ways to do it. If I don't have a picture of my own to add, I've gone online to get a picture, or add logos, etc. It's been kind of fun challenging myself to using 'different' pictures.

I've never understood this debate because I use what photos I need to tell the story in my 12x12 albums. It might be one photo, it might be a lot over multiple pages (big sports event, non-Christmas holidays, etc.). It's rare I have one photo, but it's starting to happen more often as my boys get bigger. Yep, this is me. I do it all, depending on the story/event. I mostly scrap 12x12, but also do 6x8 for projects/travel.
