Trying to keep the board moving...
This used to be a topic of hot debate. The multiphoto scrapbookers often said that single photo pages were wasteful. The single photo scrappers didn't understand the multiphoto scrappers. I think it all came down to what your purpose for scrapbooking was in the first place but I definitely remember some snark.
I think most of the layouts I see on the internet are 1 photo because they want to sell you product, and you can fit a lot more product on a page. Sometimes I can't even find the photo it is so small.
How many photos do you do per page? I most often do one page layouts because a lot of my photos aren't events, just a nice photo that I want to highlight. It also gives me more room to add product. Lately, though, I've been doing more event scrapping so I've been going to multiphoto- 2, or more commonly 3 per page. I even have made some 2 page layouts lately because I can't decide on just 3 photos. Like my scrapping style, when it comes to number of photos or number of pages, I'm all over the place.
I'm a 12x12" scrapper because I want lots of room to be creative. I think I'd feel cramped with the smaller sizes.
Are you a single photo or multiphoto scrapper? Do you do single pages or double page spreads? Twelve inch or smaller?

I scrap 12 by 12 and almost always make one page layouts.
My most common pages use 3-4 photos.
If I only use one photo I get it printed it as a 5 by 7 most of the time. Occasionally, I'll use one 4 by 6 if that's what I have.
It's very rare that I'll make a one photo layout with a photo smaller than 4 by 6, because I'm not a huge embellisher and I wouldn't know how to fill the page...

Multiple photos per page. The exception might be the cover page to a scrapbook.

1 page, 12x12 scrapper. I typically do 3-5 photos but will squeeze in more if I can on one page. I have no problem cropping photos to 2x2 or 2x3 depending on the subject.

I scrap 12x12 - double page - 3-4 photos per page most of the time. When I started scrapping the grand kids were young and there were a lot of birthday parties, sports events and so on. The kids are all in 20's and 30's now so not as many opportunities to photograph. A good part of the time now one page will have a single 5x7 or 8x10 with second page between 2 and 4 photos.

I scrap 12 x 12 and t depends on my odd and the pictures for how many. If I’m feeling creative it’s usually 1-3 to a page. But a lot of the time I have many more on a two page spread because I have a lot of pictures to scrap. Even if it’s one event, I try to capture different things featuring each of my kids (5) so if I didn’t do many pics I’d have more than the two albums per year I currently have!

I am most often a multi photo per page person, just because I have multi photos lol. Same. When I scrapped 12x12 exclusively I tried to cram as many photos onto a page as possible. I do more smaller albums and pocket pages so in smaller albums I'll do 2-3 photos on a layout if I can and with pocket pages I try and leave 2 pockets for embellishing and the rest photos.

I've always been a multi photo per page scrapbooker. I think it's because I scrapbook events and am not so into photography so I don't have those super special photos to highlight.

I've never understood this debate because I use what photos I need to tell the story in my 12x12 albums. It might be one photo, it might be a lot over multiple pages (big sports event, non-Christmas holidays, etc.). It's rare I have one photo, but it's starting to happen more often as my boys get bigger.

8.5x11 scrapper with a mix of single and double page layouts and a mix of single photo and multi-photo ones as well. I AM using less photos now than I used to - I'm more selective about the photos (in part because there are more to pick from with digital vs film) and I am trying to do more single page layouts where I can because I'm more conscious of exactly HOW many layouts and albums I have. The albums I make with my adult children's photos tend to have more single photo, single page layouts - because that's what they give me...one photo. like huskermom98 - I don't understand why this is a big debate thing. Everyone's scrapbooks and layouts are valuable - if you (general) like what you're doing, you're doing it right

Great question, artbabe. I scrap 12x12 two page layouts, so multiple photos per LO, but if I have a feature photo I want to play up, or I want to play with techniques and papers and... I will put one photo on one of the pages and group any number of them on the facing page. Or sometimes I will be scrapping several dgk's school photos (for example) and have one person/one photo per page.

I'm primarily a 12x12 single page layout scrapbooker. I feel most comfortable scrapbooking with a 4x6 space for photos on a page. Sometimes it's one 4x6 photo and sometimes it's two 3x4 photos. Those are my preferred "recipes" for a single page layout. If I have enough photos for a two page layout, I still approach them as single page layouts. Both layouts will share some of the same supplies so they feel connected by the product/photos, but aren't mirror opposites of each other. I don't necessarily even scrapbook the two pages at the same time, or even during the same craft session! Probably not the most efficient use of time, but it works for me!

I’m an 8.5 x 11 one photo scrapper. Maybe two photos, max.
I absolutely hate pages that are cluttered. More is not more, even with photos. Are there times multiple photos are really needed? Yes. But so often people add all the photos even of it isn’t really telling more of the story than just one photo would.

I scrapbook 8.5 x 11. I am a multiple photos per page user. I have on occasion used one photo only, that was because there was only one photo of what I was scrapbooking.
I am also a multiple pages per event, photo op, etc... In the past, I've taken lots of photos at a party and narrowed it down to the best 50, 75, 100, etc... photos. I scrapbook all the photos. Years back, a Halloween party ended up being a 20+ page spread, because I loved all the photos.
Personally speaking... There is no right or wrong way to scrapbook. It's whatever each individual scrapbooker likes, loves, prefers, etc...
I do what makes me happy, and what I like. I don't worry about what anyone else thinks about me or my scrapbooks. If someone doesn't like me or my scrapbooks and wants to judge me....... then that person is free to excuse themselves from my life.

I'm not really a scrapper any more, now I do minimally decorated photo books, but my philosophy/style has been fairly consistent. I've never been able to make a page that was just one 4x6 or smaller photos and a bunch of embellishment or patterned paper. I like other peoples' pages but it just doesn't make sense for me. I like smaller pages, or bigger photos if I don't have very many to tell a story, or I fill the space with lots of journaling. A lot of my photobook pages are full bleed single photos - if you give me space I want to fill it with photo(s)! I also enjoy using multiple photos to tell a story visually without a lot of words. I don't always add titles or captions if the photos can tell the story by themselves. Shimelle mentioned this debate last week. I think she gets snark from people who don't understand why two thirds of her page is just pretty paper and bits and bobs. I personally find her pages quite balanced even if I couldn't make them like that myself. I've seen other pages on social media where I didn't even realize there was a photo hidden amongst all the decoration! Good for selling product and good for people who enjoy the art of it, but it's not for me. Everyone should do what they love though! It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks

I'm a good storyteller and an average photographer and graphic designer/artist so my favorite pages are story-based "everyday"/personality-type pages that only need 1 or 2 photos to bolster the story I'm telling. Sometimes these are just a good headshot of the person in question that I've taken within a few months of the time of the story and not actually for the story or when the story happened.
My weekly Project Life pages are where I use my average photos that tell stories that are still interesting but much less important to the overall understanding of my family & my life.
I do scrap multiple photos, like for events, but they are because I feel obligated to do and not because I enjoy it. For me, I don't need (or want to tell) as much story when it's obvious from the 5-6 photos on the page that we went to the zoo, celebrated someone's birthday, etc. and I will just include a few lines of anything different or interesting that happened this particular time.
I know I could improve my photography & artistic skills (and hopefully I have somewhat in the last 19 years!) but those are not my ultimate goal in scrapbooking.
I scrap in 12x12 since that's what digital kits come in but I have them printed as 8x8 softcover albums at Shutterfly. I rarely make double page spreads. I think the last time I might have made one was for my 7-year-old son's monthly photos for the first year of his life. It doesn't bother me that my pages don't coordinate or match when printed side-by-side; it's more important to me that, even though I don't create chronologically, that my pages are printed in chronological order.

I find that I am usually a 4 x 6'er with some smaller sizes added if I need a lot of photos. I love using the PL app and getting 6- 2 x 2's on a 4 x 6 photo. Vacation photos can have lots of photos of all different sizes.
I never understood why anyone has to say one way or another is too wasteful, too simple, too whatever. It's a hobby. No competition. As long as you like what you are doing, that is all that should matter.

I typically do 12x12 pages, both double and single depending on how many photos I want to include. I have no problem using just one photo on a page, I have done it often with my childhood photos because that was often all I had, but I also do it with recent photos if that's all I feel I need. Sometimes I want to record a story that I think is important, and sometimes I really just want to play with photos and pretty things, and those single photo pages let me do that while letting me feel like I'm not completely wasting my time or supplies. If I'm using a single photo I generally keep it to a 4x6 size, but, like Ryann, I'll often use 2 3x4s on a single page.
I definitely think we've moved away from the idea that you must include all the photos or a page is not valuable if it only has a tiny photo and a ton of embellishing.

My typical page has 2 photos on a 12x12 layout. But, often it's 3. I do occasionally have only 1, because that is all I have.
I am getting much more selective about which photos I use. In the past, especially with the first grandchild, I used ALL the photos.

I love reading how everyone does their layouts.
I think a lot of it depends on what your purpose for scrapping is. A lot of people have mentioned telling a story. I've only recently started thinking that way. A lot of my layouts don't have any story except that my nephews were cute when they were little.
I wish I would have written down more. Facebook has been great for me, oddly enough. I've used it for over 10 years and every day they have what you posted that day in past years. I posted so many cute stories about the kids on there that I've been able to screengrab the entries and add them to my layouts. It has really helped filling holes in my memory.
I've never thought of my scrapbooks like they are photo albums. I just love scrapbooking because I like art (you never would have guessed from my name) and I love my nephews and it is the perfect way to combine the two. It makes me happy to craft and it makes me happy to look at photos of the boys. I keep most of my photos in boxes and only scrapbook the ones that really speak to me.
I'm interested in how people do 2 page layouts, too. I like the different ways to approach it. I do this somewhat weird thing with my 2 pagers. Both pages have to have a title and a design so they make sense together and also separately. I have no idea why I think the pages are going to get separated but for some reason I do it every time. At first I was doing it unconsciously but once I noticed it I've kept it up.
I'm hoping more people will see this thread and add how they scrap. I love reading other people's ideas.

Like huskermom98, it all depends on the story I want to tell. My everyday scrapping is pocket page (Project Life) but I have very much enjoyed the board challenges for Sketchy September and 28-4-28. I have some nice memories captured and celebrated in those 12x12 challenge responses. November was a low point in my pocket pages - less photos than ever. I've taken one each day for a kind of a December Daily so I'm hoping that will kickstart a return to capturing the special and every day.

My main form of scrapbooking is Project Life, and I'll include multiple photos, or sometimes devote full spreads, to individual events. I will do 12x12 layouts with photos I really love and insert them into my Project Life album. Those layouts tend to be just one photo (usually 4x6), but sometimes I'll put two or three on there (usually 3x4) if there are multiple photos I want to highlight.

But I've never considered myself to be an artsy or creative sort - that gene completely skipped me. as to the 'how' - I typically start by choosing my photos and then a sketch that fits that number or can be adjusted to fit and go from there. There's not always a title or journalling (although I'm trying harder to include more journalling), embellishments tend to be minimal, and my layouts in general are simple, clean, and linear.

I do a fairly even mix of double page layouts and single layouts, and on the single page layouts an even mix of one photo or multiple photos. It all depends on whether I'm scrapping an event like Christmas, birthday, or beach photos (double page spread) or just a nice snapshot I took of the kids (single page / single photo). Usually, if there are anything more than three photos I will do a double page spread. I had no idea of the...... animosity?.... between one photo and multiple photos scrappers, until I read it here on another thread a while ago. Fancy thinking your (the general your) way of scrapping is the only way. I think I asked this question on the other thread, regarding those people who think that scrapping single photos is wasteful or pointless...... what do they do if they have a gorgeous photo of their kids or their pets or them with their spouse...... do they just not scrap it? Or do they put a lot of random unrelated photos together on one page?

I am an 8.5 x 11 or 8 x 8 scrapper as find 12 x 12 albums to tedious and bulbous to store. As for the number of photos, depends on the message. I do not journal, just usually dates and possible demographics as I want the photo(s) to tell the story.

As far as double page layouts, don't do them often but if so they may coordinate or just be complimentary.

I was an 8.5x11 scrapper for several years. It was a mixture, but became less photos per page as my kids got older. Now it's mostly 12x12 using sheet protectors with pockets. It's mostly all photos with two or three spots for journaling or embellishing.
I used to enjoy the creative process more. Now, it's more about finishing albums and doing a bit of scrapbooking.
