Do you print your photos as you go or do you have everything preprinted?
I'm extremely weird about photos. I get my photos printed by Shutterfly and I print practically everything. If it is on my phone, it is printed. So I have over 16,000 photos printed. You read that right. I actually have printed more since I counted so I could have quite a bit more than that. I just feel better having everything backed up on paper, along with having the digital backups.
Everything is sorted in those great plastic photo storage boxes that contain 16 little plastic boxes within. I love those things. It is so great scrapping when I just have to grab the "beach, 2018" little plastic box. Those boxes are fantastic for crops, too. It is so easy to toss a few of them in when I'm packing.
I obviously don't scrapbook them all or even a small portion. I never worry about being caught up, because that is not even a possibility.
I know there are people on here that keep everything stored digitally and just print out photos for a specific layout.
How many photos do you have printed and how do you store them? Also, how do you organize your photos digitally and what do you use to back them up? And since we are talking about photos, what sizes do you print?

I print as I go. Sometimes I’ll batch print a bunch for a time frame/event I know I want to work on soon. But for me a “bunch” would be 20. Usually my working pile is 5-10.
I once printed 130 prints at once to do a PL year I’d skipped and dealing with that many photos at once was a nightmare to me.
I have less than 20 prints for future projects on hand. These are mostly enlarged pics I ordered because of a deal or promo code, but wasn’t ready to deal with yet.
I’ve been primarily a PL scrapper, so prints are 99% 4x6 (and a lot of 3x4). I do get bigger prints for special photos to include as inserts.
I recently finished a mini album for an Alaska trip, 3x8, and used several full size pics in there. That was fun and I’ll do more of that for sure.

I used to print in bulk through Shutterfly but a few years ago DH got me my espon pm. I love it and print as a I go. For me I enjoy being able to resize pictures, print to my creative moment or sketch and not waste. I still have boxes and boxes of pics from years ago thst I may never use and I’ll end up trashing so this suits me better.

I have always printed in big batches via Snapfish--usually 3-6 months at a time. However, I haven't ordered prints in almost a year because I wasn't scrapping much and got so behind. I'm close to being out of prints so I need to decide how to do it moving forward. I've done a lot of printing at home for WITL, DD and this year's vacation on my PictureMate but it's not cheap...but it's convenient... I will probably still order some from Snapfish, specifically I'm thinking my football & baseball pictures because I take (and usually use) so many.
When I have months of pictures from Snapfish I store them in the paper folders they come in by month & several months get put in a large container that in theory holds 5 to 6 plastic containers (the ones that hold about 100 prints). I don't like using those 100-print containers because I'd rather keep my prints together by month.

I try and stay relatively caught up printing wise - right now I've printed through the first two weeks of December - and I'll print the rest of December in early January. I don't print everything - I used to but with digital cameras, that's not realistic for me. I print what I think I'll scrapbook -sometimes a couple of extras if I'm not sure.
When I get the prints back - I sort by layout/event into page protectors in a binder chronologically. I don't scrapbook chronologically but my albums are.
I have some earlier (pre-digital) prints that are stored in a Rubbermaid Media container but they are on my list to scan and sort by layout.
I have thousands of photos from my mum and from my MIL - they are stored in those photo storage boxes mostly - the ones that aren't will be - except for the really old ones that'll be stored in archivial boxes within protective sleeves. At least those that are printed. Many of my mum's were digital (and I've scanned almost all of the ones that weren't). My eventual goal is to make photo books by year or decade. It's ...quite a project.

I transfer all my photos to my 'puter, and print what I need on my printer. I buy Epson Photo Paper 150 to a box.

I generally print each month.
I print all the photos that month that I took and like.
They are saved on the camera card, on the phone, on the desktop computer, and on Snapfish... But digital back ups & saving don't really feel "forever" to me. They can corrupt so easily that I really don't have much trust in them.
But same for printed pics, ya know? One horrendous storm, one house fire, one major leak, and they are also all ruined.
I try not to think about it too much.
I generally print 4x6" (or 4x5.3" or whatever that true digital size is) , but if it's a pic I really love, it might get printed 5x7" or even 8x10".

I suck at getting photos printed. I usually only print what I want to frame/use. I use Legacy Box and have them digitlize all my paper photos onto a download + USB card. I am currently working on a 20 box to send (that's 20 boxes of 25 photos for each box). Once I get those digitalized then I will go back and order more photos to cover the last few years that I haven't printed photos.

I print in batches as I go for the projects I am working on. I usually do up kits to work on. I will plan, print and kit.

I am working on getting all my photo printed.
Some years are done, some are partially, some not printed at all. It's one of my current projects. I have a visa gift card that I am saving and using for printing. I usually wait until walgreens has a special. .12cents for 75 or more prints. I let things get out of control, and now attempting to regain control ...and get printed and categorized.

I print as I go. I really don’t take that many pictures. I have so many boxes of pictures from my pre-digital life (half of DS childhood is pre-digital). I also have all of DH photos and all my mom’s photos. I’m drowning in prints.

I do a bit of both. Larger projects like my travel albums are usually printed in batches, and I might have a couple of hundred photos printed out and ready to scrap at any given time. I usually sort these and drop them into page protectors roughly how I think my album is going to go, which helps me see the gaps. I print at a mix of sizes, and I sort of have a rough idea of how many photos I want to put onto each layout which influences what sizes I print at. I often print 4x6 and 3x4, but will also print 2x2, 2x3, 3x3, and occasionally 4x4.
My PL or everyday pages are usually printed when I'm ready to scrap them. These are the pages I more commonly use for sketch challenges and like the flexibility to resize and print when I'm ready to scrap.

I mainly scrap vacations these days - we're empty nesters, living a long way from family, so it is the majority of my photos anyway. I don't necessarily sort and print straight after a vacation - I am currently working on a trip to Mexico in 2018!

I can't remember the last time I got any photos printed. It was probably three years ago for DD's 21st birthday photo board, and for my Christmas photo display. Prior to that it would have been around 2009 maybe.
When I used to paper scrap, I would print most of my photos 6x4 or 3x4, and my favourites 5x7.
I download my photos from my phone onto my MacBook and straight up into my iCloud, at least once a week. Tonight DSO asked to look at photos from Christmas Day on my phone, but I had already uploaded them to the cloud and deleted them from my phone. It freaks me the hell out when friends tell me they have thousands of photos on their phones and they're not backed up anywhere.
My photos are organised by Year, then a separate folder YYMMDD for each 'event', and random photos go into a Miscellaneous folder. An example of what this year's folder contains:
2021 Miscellaneous Photos 2021 Miscellaneous Videos 210102 Yarra River 210107 Inverloch 210110 walk with Boris 210114 Mick's birthday 210214 Valentine's dinner 210223 Karen's birthday 210227 SummerSalt concert 210305 Kuranga nursery 210313 Brunch at Hutch & Co

I print photos as space allows. Either when my iPhone storage is full or when my photo storage container is empty (or uninspiring to scrap in the moment).
I’ve never had consistent results from offsite printers so getting an at home printer made sense for me. I use it 3-4 times a year to print out photos.
I also have photos that were taken by others and given to me through the years that I keep in a separate container. I have it sorted in chronological order with an index card to separate each “event” along with the date(s) of the photos. I don’t reach for those as often as I used to (when I first started scrapbooking).

Someone told me that once you delete the photos from the phone, they're deleted from the Cloud, too. And that would make sense, since there are some of mine I no longer see on the Cloud. I have an external hard drive. Admittedly, I need to check it again, since I'm no longer using the same computer. I do still have the original hard drive, from teh CPU; may have to take it in & get the photos resaved onto something. I print quarterly, a bunch whenever I have a scrapbooking event. At least that's what I've done in the past. I may need to give myself a budget & start printing more often so that I can get everything in paper copy, so I can scrapbook them.

I do still have the original hard drive, from teh CPU; may have to take it in & get the photos resaved onto something. I pay for 2TB of iCloud storage. When I take photos on my iPhone, they are automatically stored in my iCloud in the 'Photos' app, which is the colourful icon fourth from the left in the picture below. I then airdrop the photos to my MacBook, and move them to the 'iCloud Drive' which is the blue cloud icon to the right of the 'Photos' icon. Then I delete them from my phone to free up space, which then also removes them from the 'Photos' app. When I open the iCloud Drive, I can see all of the folders I have manually set up (shown in the picture below). There is a separate folder for each year of photos, and various other folders such as Digital Scrapbooking (all my kits, templates, sketches, Photoshop tools, layouts etc), Documents, Recipes, Invoices, Scanned Photos etc etc. This next picture shows some of the sub folders under in "2021 Photos" folder. Once I have scrapped the photos in that folder, I change the blue folder icon to one of the photos in that folder so that I can see at a glance which photos still need to be scrapped. I'm sure it sounds far more complicated than it actually is hahaha!! I take a LOT of photos and there is no way I would be able to keep them all on my phone. And by the way, external hard drives are not a very safe way to store photos. I have mentioned here several times (I probably sound like a broken record!) that I have had four external hard drives over the years. Two have died completely. Luckily the photos were all backed up onto second hard drive as well, otherwise I would have lost them all. My third EHD is on the way out - I can only use it for about 5 minutes before it crashes. My fourth one is still working fine. But at least now I have peace of mind, and if (when!) the fourth EHD dies, I don't have to worry because every single photo is stored safely in the cloud.

I thought the same thing about the deleting from (all devices) I thought they would drop out of the cloud (Apple.. no idea of others.. and likely wrong about Apple too- as I refuse to pay for more storage, so feel it unreliable lol- or- rather, I'm unreliable using it!!) I take a ton of photos and organize them much like AussieMeg does... But I do use two external hard drives that I "mirror." The reality is that my 70,000 photos is really 150,000 files and it's insanity. I do continue to print from the same place for the last 6 years (Persnickety) so I feel happy that I also have copies of my favorites, outside the house. I have been meaning to make *another* copy of my 7TB external drives onto another drive and send it to my mom for safe keeping, but I keep feeling like I should clean it up, somewhat before doing that lol I used to print hundreds upon hundreds of photos at a time, years ago. I'd send off to get the original, the black and white, the sepia, the fake digital snow added, some weird vignette, then, I would scrap, maybe one, and not want to throw away the rest, even though I still had the digital. It took me a very very long time to 1) Quit printing so much crap lol 2) Be willing to throw perfectly good photos of my kids in a trash bin. I now am wayyyyy more intentional and judicious about what I print. I usually have less than a 5X7 plastic photo IRIS container of "extras" per year. This year, I slipped all but a couple of these into Christmas cards. I think that is my new plan!

AussieMeg - thanks. I am on an ipad/ios system, but I know I can do iCloud for windows. I'll get that set up. I am also more judicious about what I print because our local Costco has removed their photo printing centre. I have found a place I like, and to get the best deal you need to print at least 100, so I do it a few times a year.

I'm terrible about printing photos, which is why I have set a goal for myself in 2022 to print out photos every Monday from the prior week and add them to pocket pages so when I'm ready to scrap I don't have to wade through 1000's of photos to figure out what to print. I do store all my photos in the cloud in multiple places (Google, Amazon, Shutterfly and Microsoft One Drive) and I also have 2 external hard drives I back up to. The reason for this redundancy is because you never know when a website it going to shut down and you may lose all your photos if you don't act fast enough (ask me how I know this ) I also back up family photos to our shared family iCloud photos but those are just random family photos my husband might want to see and he also backs up photos I might want to scrapbook there. I really like AussieMeg 's approach to organizing photos and digital elements, I may adapt this to my way of thinking. I usually just have my photos stored by year/month/day and if I'm feeling super ambitious I'll use keywords on the folders but I'm usually not ambitious like that. LOL
