I am already fighting FOMO with some of the kits mentioned here. 😅 BUT I keep reminding myself of what I have that will work instead, like those December Paper Person calendar stamps are ::sweet:: but I am sure I have something similar I can make work just by layering the stamps. The kicker is I am at my MIL's til Thursday and just want to play, and when I want to play but can't, I end up shopping! 😫Staying strong, though. 💪

I am ok with that, though, I've been wanting one for over a year now, and it's 2ndhand from someone I trust so I know it's a good deal and works, etc. And it's something I don't already have and can't easily replicate--she threw in dies and foil, too!

Last year I did the challenge to complete 50 layouts before spending. I made a purchase part way through, and had to start my count again, and it proved to be really good for actually using things up. I'm currently toying with the idea of doing that again to start the year, or freezing for a month at a time to make it feel more manageable. Either way, I want to get back to the habits I had in the first 2/3 of last year of spending very little but getting lots of pages made. This! I want to spend very little and complete lots of pages using my stash! My plan is to freeze in January (except for my Elle’s Studio sub) and then be chilly the rest of the year. My motivation is to stop the influx and to use up some stash and give myself some breathing room (vs being “no spend” driven).

I'm watching crafty YT videos while I use up cardmaking supplies but they're making me want to buy new supplies! Gah! Even the videos I was sure I would be safe from. Sometimes I watch declutter videos but they don't encourage me to stay at the table working so I switched to an audiobook today.

Heading to the North Pole in a couple of days! Too many classes and extravagant buying in 2021! So many projects to finish, stuff to organize and possibly some purging.

Have been thinking about this even more since posting. I definitely spent more in 2021 than in 2020. My goal for 2022 is to spend less than 2021.
But just chilly, not frozen, because there are stash holes that I need to close.
I have a hs senior and no senior/graduation supplies.
I may need more pattern paper, but I'm not sure if I want to just make due with what I have.
I am going to make allowances for adhesives & page protectors.
I also really need trimmer blades (but it's been so long since i bought them that I'm not entirely sure which ones to order).

I entered my last purchase into my spending spreadsheet (everyday explorers) and I am jumping into the freezer. Looking at supplies I bought slightly less than last year. It was the photography class and the completed photobooks that really blew the budget. Obviously I want to finish books so the budget needs to change. I have so many digital supplies not being used as my pages are basically photos only. New goal: don't buy things just cause they are pretty. Plan 1 - Unsubscribe from mailing lists 2 - Unfollow on instagram 3 - Make a list of purchases from last year and ideas to use them 4 - Keep my head down and work on big projects (yearbook, trip, WITL) 5 - Make time to play with supplies for fun. See what I actually like using.

I've run out of room again and need to do another purge.

Going into the freezer until I make 50 layouts. Only thing I might need is adhesive. I find that I really enjoy going thru my stash and using older supplies.

It does disrupt my workflow a little bit but since I only buy from a couple of designers it's not too bad. I'm very out of sight, out of mind, so digital supplies are challenging for me. And like you I am often happy with just a photo. Your action steps sound really smart!

Feeling accomplished - went to a Joanns today and didn't even look at the scrapbooking section (I only bought fabric - for a specific project - and clay for DD). DH even pointed out that paper pads were on sale but I stayed strong and reminded myself...I have plenty of paper for now.

feeling even more accomplished - Michaels sent me a reminder that I had $25 in rewards expiring... and I bought adhesive with them. Staying strong! staying frozen!

Way to stay strong Linda! I'm honestly not sure how I would have done at Joann. I have a good one with a pretty big scrapbook section. Which reminds me they will be refreshing their Designer Destinations with new product soon. That might be hard to pass on, but I don't need it, I don't need it. I really don't lol.

I really don't lol. we don't have a Joanns especially close (or a Michaels anymore) - just a HL and their selection turns over rather slowly. It was tempting to see what new goodies were at Joanns - it's been a few months since we were at one - but I kept reminding myself that my paper storage is overflowing.

I have tried being frozen before without any success, so I have decided that I will be chilly this year. My stash is larger than I would like, so I am going to tackle the biggest problem, which is patterned paper. For every two sheets of stash paper I use, I am allowed to buy one. I also want to use up journaling cards, so I have set a goal to use those more and have been making a point of just going through and grabbing some when I am scrapping so that they are more likely to end up in pocket pages or on layouts.
Over the past year I have largely gotten away from blindly buying entire collections (with very few exceptions), instead I have been buying only the pieces I really like and want, and then I have been adding in coordinating things from my stash. This has actually been a lot of fun, so I want to continue on like this.
I definitely use shopping for scrapbooking supplies as a substitute for actually scrapbooking, so this year I am going to focus more on the doing and the enjoying of my stash, and less on the shopping.

I definitely need to stay frozen as long as possible. I DO NOT need to buy anything for whatever trip we take next summer and at this point I won't need much of anything for DD next year either. I have an AE gift card that I'm saving for WITL, but other than that I should only need some ATG tape for quite a while...I am stuck with 6 more months of the DK at Studio Calico unfortunately...

Well done Linda! I know when I'm at the start of a freeze it seems easier to justify a little purchase with a "I'll start my freeze tomorrow" mentality. For every two sheets of stash paper I use, I am allowed to buy one. This is a really smart way of slowing down your spending and I hope it works well for you.

First time participating on this type of thread . I think chilly is definitely a goal for 2022 as well as purging some things that I know I won't use. We had a flood from the deep freeze in Texas last Spring that caused water damage on some older supplies and I just let all of it go. I definitely made more purchases in 2021, although I have been also using up stash more than I have in years. That said, I below are my chilly challenges : 1. Use up a lot of the random adhesive I have. I have too much random half used, but I always like having enough of my favs. 2. Finish up 2 old Dec Daily albums - 2010 and 2012 - and remaining pages of 2021 before I can buy any December stuff again in September. The DD collections are my weakness for sure. 3. Use only AE story kits and AE SBTM to do 2022 PL. OK to get digitals to match SBTM but that's it. 4. All gift albums I make have to use existing stash except if I need to buy an album, need a very specific item or actually run out of adhesive. 5. Allow myself to actually completely use up supplies before buying reinforcements. And I'll prob set a small monthly budget for any ink, cardstock, photo paper, misc items that I either run out of or need for a very specific purpose.

Ugh, I just had to count my materials inventory for my crafty business taxes. There's nothing quite like counting a bunch of random papers and die cuts to convince me to simplify! It's also a good reminder to finish what I start promptly because unfinished projects are the absolute worst at hiding materials from me.
So I'm feeling even more motivated to use what I've already got and get all my unfinished projects done (or tossed) before I buy any new stuff.

5. Allow myself to actually completely use up supplies before buying reinforcements. I really like your phrasing on this. I tend to think in terms of needing to replace something before it is use up, which, lets be honest, just contributes to my overflowing storage. I wonder if I can convince my inner voice to flip its thinking.

Last year was a low spend year for me. This year I'd like to try for a no spend year. I have enough of a stash to be able to do it. It's the mental side that I need to work on.

I got an email from Studio Calico, notifying me that some stamps I had wanted were FINALLY back in stock. But I held strong and didn't buy. SC takes too long to replenish popular stamps and they missed out on money from me. If I can get through a big dent in using up my stash before the next quarter, I might entertain thawing in April but for now, I don't want to break my freeze this soon.

I reviewed all the Spring 2022 releases and I am thrilled to say...except for 1 stamp set from VB, I don't like anything! Well, I don't actually know if I am thrilled to say that, but at least it keeps my wallet in check. I gave myself mental permission to buy her new collection if I really really loved it, but I am kind of happy I just like the stamp set.

Six days into the new year and so far no scrappy/crafty purchases. I'm very proud of myself. I did put something in my shopping cart on scrapbook . com but it's more to just remember if I want it later in the year.

And maybe it’s a matter of buying reinforcements like 1-2 weeks ahead of running out vs my stockpile approach now which results in forgetting I’ve bought reinforcements and ending up with 6 rolls of red line tape 🤣

I wonder if I can convince my inner voice to flip its thinking. I follow some declutter folks online who talk about everything as inventory and what we do as inventory management - groceries, household cleaners, craft supplies, clothes/laundry, it all managing inventory. It's pretty helpful, especially if you can develop a "just in time" approach like big box stores do and not keep too much extra on hand. It's harder with the way certain crafty items sell out and don't get restocked, so we have to predict whether we'll love it enough to want to buy more when we've used it up and whether it will still be available. I've often gone back for a second helping of a collection and realized I'm already over it, but there are other collections I regret not buying more of while I could. It's a fine balance! But for basics like adhesive I remember the answer one lady gave to "where do you keep your extra stock of this?" "At the store!"

Today's day 7 and I'm holding strong.
Spring releases don't even tempt me a little. And even the general idea of pre-ordering is very off putting to me anymore.
