What is one thing that you’ve done in the past but chose not to do this year?
I did not go overboard with stocking stuffers this year. I got a few things and it going to have to be enough because there’s no way in hell I’m going to any store today.

Don't expect your two sons to be in each other's company and get along more than superficially. Don't be upset when they dissolve into a huge argument over some bullshit on TV. Stop fantasizing that a holiday of peace and love will reign in your household. It's not going to happen.
Aside from that, our meals and foods consist of premade offerings and paper plates.

Do not expect the covid test done more than 48 hours ago to come back today! They were given a 24-48 window for results which came and went. The one sick isn't even supposed to be here. They were supposed to have left days ago. Now I can't proceed with my plans in good conscience.

Put up and decorate my garlands. Did a very minimal amount of decorations and I'm planning to take them down Sunday. I usually leave at least some of it up until the new year.

Deep cleaning. For some reason I always do a huge deep clean of my house right before Christmas. It stresses me out doing it during that time along with everything else going on. No one ever comes over here, there's no reason it has to be done at Christmas. So this year I haven't done it. No one's died.

I also cut back on the stocking stuff and then decided that next year we're not doing stockings. Any of the little things that I usually put in them can just go under the tree. whew!

I normally deep clean everything especially right before NYE and this year nope. The house is clean but I didn’t do a bunch of the extra stuff. I always stress myself out. I haven’t purged as much as I hoped but it will get done in the next few months. I’m trying for less stress this season.

Name just ONE thing?
How about a few?
Stockings are going to be candy only this year. Every other year they have been trinkets and little gifts and gift cards and socks and soooo much. This year I bought candy and that's all I had energy for.
There are less gifts this year. Partly because many asked for gifts are more expensive than when kids are little. And partly because I would rather them appreciate the gifts they get than have a bunch of "filler" gifts also, just to make the pile look more impressive.
The food offerings are not going to be as incredible and varied as Thanksgiving was. Mainly because I worked my tail off and spent quite a bit, and no one was wowed. I didn't feel appreciated. So tomorrow is ham and a few sides. And for apps, chips & onion dip, and a premade cheese platter and only one type of cracker. And dessert? A store bought cake & a store bought pie.

No decorating beyond the tree. No fancy unusual foods being cooked. No stockings. It's just the four of us, enjoying the first Christmas in several years when my oldest has been happy to be with us and not chomping at the bit to leave and be with her toxic, manipulative ex-boyfriend.

I cut back on stocking stuffers for the grandkids. Now that there are 12 of them, I was able order to order 12 packs of game stuff that they can all play together! 12 pack of vests with velcro on the fronts and back, and the balls with velcro on them to play tag. Nerf style foam dart guns in a pack of 12, and 100 extra darts I split between the stockings. 12 sets of dice (10 in each set) in different colors so they can play dice games (and printed the game rule for tenzi to get them started). Then a glow in the dark Capture the Flag game for all of them. I struggle enough with their individual gifts, and it just got too hard to try to figure out stocking stuffers too.

I didn't bake cookies for neighbors and friends. I just don't have the energy this year. It is disappointing, because I look fwd to baking these cookies all year. That's OK. I'm saving energy for tmw.

We didn’t put up a tree. No kidding. It just wasn’t in me this year.
I have my mantle elaborately decorated.
Didn’t bake. Haven’t made/given our usual fudge plates to friends.
Siblings didn’t want me to bring the “signature” dishes we make every year. Then they start asking what I’m bringing. So I’m like just tell me what I’m to bring because you all planned out all the details without me (and not for a lack on my part) and we’re pretty rude/harsh about me not bringing our favorite dishes (there’s never any left for me to take back).
So I’m making me a fruit salad to take to eat because not one of my siblings will accommodate my being allergic to wheat, and I dare not inquire as to any ingredients!!

I didn’t do any of my normal Christmas cookie baking this year because I hurt my hand and it killed me to not be able to do it. I made some cinnamon streusel muffins instead for today because that was within my limits with this stupid splint I have to wear for another three freaking weeks.

I accepted every offer of help this year. My son-in-law offered to cook at their house and my dd offered to do stockings for everyone and wrap all the gifts for me. Not easy to accept help, but it sure feels good right now.

Last year on Christmas day around 2pm, I managed to fall on my lanai (no alcohol involved...really!) onto my back/side and broke at least two ribs. I felt the cracking and heard it as it happened. Merry freaking Christmas to me. Did not go to ER because I knew all they would do is give pain meds and I already had some leftover from some other unfortunate incident. I would have been in agony in the car and at the ER anyway. The next 4 days/nights were excruciating. Breaking any bones is very high on my "do NOT do" list for all future Christmas day activities.

I didn’t decorate as much, not doing stockings as DD and her SO won’t be home and DS has said he really doesn’t need anything. I bought ingredients for fudge and a couple other cookies and after a few weekends of baking other things, I ran out of energy to do those. Work has been stressful the past few weeks and that sort of stomped on my Christmas spirit I think.

Travel! I am loving staying at home. I do miss seeing my family, but we have a lot going on and it's nice to stay at home. We usually go to my parents and my inlaws (one trip is 4 hrs. away and one is 5 hrs. away). So I have so much less to do with staying home. My inlaws still want to come out so they will come out the 28th for dinner.
We didn't put up a tree this year! My kids want to put up one of their dorm trees but no ornaments, just lights so no clean up!

The pre-lit tree is up. I made cookies today. Packages arrived in Florida. I am done.

Did not make Chex Mix or fudge. Did not decorate at all due to remodeling and just didn't feel like it.

Lots of baking. We are all trying to eat healthier so I do not need to make cookies and squares to make a tray for Christmas. When my mom was alive she always made a bunch of treats and we ate them for days.

I didn't do much decorating other than the tree and a couple favorite things I put out.
I did not put out some decor I no longer enjoy, but can't get rid of as late MIL made them. I am pretty sure DD will take them when she buys a house.
I didn't do much baking. I made my own favorites.

So many things are different this year. Main things we’re not doing: stockings at all, and gifts for the sake of gifts. Shopping for mil and fil - they weren’t up to shopping this year and asked that we just treat each other to a special dinner out instead. Finally, turkey dinner - I’m not making it or having it. We went to the Keg last night with in-laws. Today I’m making boeuf bourguignon.

No baking, cut way down on stocking stuff, and I bought Christmas dessert rather than baking it.

I put up the tree and ordered a turkey from a farm. I also have a reusable advent calendar that I refill. Ordered groceries online for pickup.
Other than that- no baking, no decorations, little cleaning. My adult son said he'd rather have money so I e-transferred it last night. I didn't even get cash out of the bank LOL. But realistically, he'll order something online anyway. His headphones died last week so he's be looking for a boxing day sale.
Our covid numbers are huge right now so they might close things down in the next week or so.
Our immediate family of 7 got together for dinner which was nice. Lots of food and wine. I had no energy for extras this year.

I’m usually very Martha Stewart when I wrap gifts, ribbon, bows, coordinated paper and tags. I just wrapped, slapped the name on, and stuck it under the tree.

I am glad I did stockings though. DS21’s girlfriend said her family hasn’t done stockings in about 6 years, she was so happy I got one for her. I love shopping for stockings although I will admit I was not on my game this year.
