I am cooking up a storm. LOL Originally, my plans with my parents were cancelled because they are nervous about Covid, but we decided to go over there tomorrow anyway and just stay outside and away from each other. It's supposed to be close to 70 tomorrow, so it will be okay. My kids and I, and my youngest daughter's boyfriend, will stay just long enough to take them some treats, gifts and food. Today was a very different Christmas Eve for me. Usually, I spend it baking, wrapping gifts and making a dinner of appetizers for my immediate family. This morning, I had some last minute gifts to get, and I was going run to the mall, but since it was so nice out, I decided to go to the downtown area of my city to shop and sit out on a patio and have lunch. It was so nice, and so different from what I usually do. I got home around 3 and have been cooking since. I am making a breakfast casserole to put in the fridge and cook in the morning, I made a pan of ziti to put in the oven when we get home tomorrow afternoon, and I made cheesy potato casserole to cook in the morning and take to my parents. I am also going to put a pork roast in the crock pot overnight to make pulled pork sandwiches from. Oh, and I made Bisquick sausage balls to eat tomorrow, too. The last thing I need to do is make the dough for this awesome "star bread" that I will make for breakfast in the morning. (Photo is from last Christmas) I am also planning to make some jam thumbprint cookies. If I am still awake and have my wits about me after I am finished with all that and cleaning my kitchen, I am going to watch a Christmas movie and crochet. A weird, and quiet Christmas Eve here. One daughter is at the gym, the other is with her boyfriend's family, and my son is sleeping. I've enjoyed my day, though.

Our Christmas Eve dinner is always a make-your-own-sandwich meal so at the moment I'm eating my sandwich. I've finished wrapping which is a record for me. At 7:30 I'll put my church's Christmas Eve service on Zoom on my laptop WITH CAMERA OFF (I'm in PJs), with one earbud in. Only one because the other ear will be watching/listening to "Jeopardy" because Amy is still champ. Hoping she continues tonight.
This whole Zoom church thing has led to some bad habits. hahahaha

I sent this to our pastor recently when she’d been talking about our recent return to limited in-person worship. Which has been rescinded because of omicron. Sigh…

I am working night shift. Emergency services are always so busy on Christmas Eve. My family is home building a gingerbread house and tracking Santa. Merry Christmas to all of my Pea friends. Stay safe.

It's a nice clear night and temps just around freezing, so DH and I bundled up and went for a long walk around town to look at the Christmas lights.

Not much. I’m making clam chowder as we speak. We’ll eat that with a salad with homemade 1000 Island dressing and shrimp cocktail. Then we’ll likely settle in and watch a movie. I want to give myself a manicure. I’ll do that while dh cleans up the kitchen.
Older dd will be here tomorrow with her fiancé. They’re at his parents’ house tonight.

Cooked up a storm until noon while DH and the kids did last minute straightening. At that point everything stopped and we got ready for Christmas eve.
We went to Mass at 4pm and are now home and just finished Christmas dinner (homemade lasagna, both regular and vegetarian, tossed salad, homemade yeast rolls, and 7up salad).
All I have left to do is put the egg mixture on my bread and veggies for the breakfast casserole for tomorrow morning and then wrap 2 small gifts.
Then we will have dessert while we watch White Christmas (our yearly tradition) and then the "kids" will go to bed and DH and I will put out the rest of the gifts and then sit in the light of the Christmas tree and take a breath and talk about how blessed we are.

This morning, I started watching The Christmas Chronicle on Netflix, and I am hoping to watch the rest of that later and then watch the second one. It's cute so far.

To be honest Im sad. I am at my house with my teenage kids and we opened gifts earlier today. Everything is put away gift wise and I was hoping that they would want to go look at lights, watch any christmas movie, help me make my dessert for tomorrow. And they dont. I spent a lot of money on them and I know they are grateful and appreciate it. And I know this is just typical teenage behavior, but it still hurts. I only get them every other year, and this will be my second to last Christmas before they are adults. And I dont know what will happen after that. Tomorrow we are getting together with my family and I am hoping that will pep me up. But tonight feels like any other night and that makes me sad. I wanted it to be more special. Everyone I could vent to is busy with family things tonight so thanks for letting me vent.

Well, it is Friday so changing the linens. Will doctor up and put the frozen dough cinnamon rolls in the refrigerator to rise overnight and wrap the dog toys. That is it, still fighting this cold-flu crud so going to bed early. Looking forward to a peaceful evening and quiet day of opening presents and good food tomorrow.

We are Jewish so our traditions are different . We went to the big Asian grocery and got things to make sushi tonight, and we’re hanging out listening to Red. We might watch the Charlie Brown Christmas special later.

I was supposed to have a house full of people but since two relatives had “close contact” this week with someone who tested positive we pushed it back a week. Just finished our replacement special supper (I made tenderloin and king crab) and I am thinking about changing into my pjs already.

Your day sounds really enjoyable, Just T. I finished some wrapping and spent most of the day relaxing. I'm about to make an easy dinner and then I'll sit at my latest puzzle and hang out w/my family while watching something on tv.

We went out for Mexican food and then came home to watch Encanto (started streaming on Disney+ today). Teen dds are doing all the wrapping - yay! Dh just turned on Scrooged - the old Bill Murray movie. I don't think I've ever seen it! When the wrapping is done, the kids will open their pjs from my parents, I'll fill stockings, and head to bed .

Enjoy your unexpected quiet time. that bread looks awesome!!! It was so good. A little labor intensive, but otherwise easy and worth it.

It is definitely a process getting used to kids becoming adults and the ways that changes the holidays. This is the first year my youngest daughter is not here on Christmas Eve. She graduated from college last year and has been living at home. She recently moved into her own apartment, and she is spending CE with her boyfriend's family. She is my most Christmas loving kid, so it has been strange not having her here today. Vent away! I have had a lot of years to get used to different Christmases. This one has mostly sucked, but I am doing my best to make the best of it. Hang in there. It gets easier, but it is not an easy process.

I’m looking up recipes for a breakfast casserole I can prep tonight and pop in oven in the morning.

just got back from our church christmas eve service.. we have a tiny church. the music director was out.. was sick and didn't know if he had covid.
I was one of the readers. and I have been in the choir for years, so i started and sang along all the carols acapella... and I switched out one carol for a more familiar one. so it was an unusual service. first time I have been to church in months.
I made dinner this afternoon, so just have to start the rice in an hour, and we will eat later. pretty quiet.

I picked up my Christmas present today so I am snuggling with my new Corgi puppy(in my avatar)watching Christmas movies. I took a nap earlier. I have a couple of presents left to wrap and stockings left to stuff. All my boys will be here in the morning and we haven't all been together in over a year. I love that they are all here.

We grilled out steaks, corn on the cob, and had roasted asparagus and baked potatoes for dinner. Currently watching the Matrix Revolutions in preparation for the new Matrix movie after that.
I gave myself a dip manicure and cleaned up a bit. I have a couple of gifts to wrap, and we will all open one gift tonight and the rest tomorrow throughout the day as we visit family. Today was so nice and peaceful compared to the insanity of tomorrow!

I am in shorts, bare feet and a tshirt, sitting in front of an open window. LOL In St. Louis. I haven't turned on the tv, but I bet we set some sort of record today. I made this with a few modifications: www.plainchicken.com/sausage-and-cream-cheese-quiche/ I doubled it, and used Chorizo. I also didn't put it in a crust; I put it in a 13x9 pan. I've made it before, and it's really good. And easy. It's in my fridge ready to bake in the morning.

My Christmas Eves have gotten pretty quiet over the years as my kids got older, and I kind of like it. I used to never ever shop on Christmas Eve, unless it was to run out for a few last minute stocking stuffers. Today I did shop, but I really enjoyed myself.

Some years he comes home, some he doesn't. He hasn't been home for Christmas since 2018.

Second year in a row we couldn't travel to see our families, and I have one sis-in-law with covid and two sisters-in-law that recently lost their husbands (non-covid), so sad! I WANT TO SEE THEM !!!! Compleeeeeeetely exhausted from dealing with my 90-year-old Dad, (he lives with us, and I am SO close to losing my mind! ) ANNNDDD resenting my older sister and brother who aren't helping AT ALL ! I used to love the Christmas season, but now I HATE it! Losing hope that my medical issues will improve, but thankful I have an awesome DH who helps and encourages me! Prepping to watch movies w/ DH and the doggies and forget allllll my depressing thoughts and worries for a few hours. I am also going to eat sugary things that I shouldn't!

I have been in the choir for years, so i started and sang along all the carols acapella That sounds just beautiful !!! I'm a singer, too, and acapella is soo fun! Earlier today, I played some beauuuutiful classical music, then switched to Christmas music I've been avoiding all season. Annnd, just as I feared, all it did was make me cry.
