I am working night shift. Emergency services are always so busy on Christmas Eve. My family is home building a gingerbread house and tracking Santa. Merry Christmas to all of my Pea friends. Stay safe. Thank you for your service

Second year of cancelled Christmas Eve Dinner. Fucking covid.
We are still grilling steaks on the BBQ, and I'll roast Brussels sprouts and mash some sweet potato.
I thought for sure that one of the few boxes of Christmas stuff I brought down would have the Christmas stockings. Nope 😖 I have to climb back up there.

To be honest Im sad. I am at my house with my teenage kids and we opened gifts earlier today. Everything is put away gift wise and I was hoping that they would want to go look at lights, watch any christmas movie, help me make my dessert for tomorrow. And they dont. I spent a lot of money on them and I know they are grateful and appreciate it. And I know this is just typical teenage behavior, but it still hurts. I only get them every other year, and this will be my second to last Christmas before they are adults. And I dont know what will happen after that. Tomorrow we are getting together with my family and I am hoping that will pep me up. But tonight feels like any other night and that makes me sad. I wanted it to be more special. Everyone I could vent to is busy with family things tonight so thanks for letting me vent. Hugs. I’m sad too so I get it.

I am scrapbooking and watching True crime shows. I am a single empty nester and I had an unexpected break up last week and I am still sad about it. I prepped the desert to take to my parents tomorrow.

An ordinary night really. We watched Jeopardy - Amy won again - and then an episode of Loudermilk on Netflix. We are almost done with that series.
I made a card for a friend's parents who will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary next week.

Just got back from seeing Wonderful Life at our local theater with my cousin and nephew (their first time seeing in) and watching husband and I are watching Christmas in Connecticut while I am finishing cinnamon rolls and Buche de Noel for tomorrow. After this we will watch Muppet Christmas Carol before tucking in for the night.

My 25 year old gets it so hold out hope for better Christmases to come with young adults.

It’s actually really warm and windy here for December 24th! I’m looking up recipes for a breakfast casserole I can prep tonight and pop in oven in the morning. It's warm here, too. I am in shorts, bare feet and a tshirt, sitting in front of an open window. LOL In St. Louis. I haven't turned on the tv, but I bet we set some sort of record today. I made this with a few modifications: www.plainchicken.com/sausage-and-cream-cheese-quiche/ I doubled it, and used Chorizo. I also didn't put it in a crust; I put it in a 13x9 pan. I've made it before, and it's really good. And easy. It's in my fridge ready to bake in the morning. That quiche sounds delicious! I might make that tomorrow.

It’s after 10 pm and I just got done wrapping Christmas presents. DH is being a Scrooge and didn’t help at all. Got a text from DD (she’s at her in-laws for Christmas Eve) telling me that the her husband’s parents got the same “big gift” for our son-in-law as we did. Ugh. We’re going to give it to him any way, along with the receipt. He can go do the return. We have a great relationship with our SIL, so it really isn’t an issue. (But my not-so-dear husband is majorly annoyed and is super grumpy.). We got C the beer and wine advent calendars from Costco, which I know he will like, plus we gave everyone $200 in cash last week, so it’s not like he didn’t get anything. Sheesh.
So, now I’m tired. Tomorrow I am making the ham, sweet potato casserole and deviled eggs to take to our daughters house for Christmas lunch. If I have time I’ll also make a lemon meringue pie.
I’m in bed with 2 of our three dogs and half way watching a Hallmark Christmas movie and I’m hungry. I just realized I forgot to eat any dinner, but I’m too tired to go downstairs and get something to eat. Can it be tomorrow yet? I’m kinda over this day.

Just got home from watching the latest Spider Man movie with my teens. Before that we decorated cookies, which was kind of hilarious.
Now I’m baking a coffee-cake type deal for tomorrow morning and waiting for them to crash so I can finish wrapping and fill stockings and put everything under the tree.

I’m sick. Hit me hard and fast. I had chest tightness yesterday and a dry cough. Took my inhaler. Still coughing today. Took allergy meds thinking allergies. Head hurts from coughing. No change after allergy meds. Body started to hurt. Checked temp, normal. Sat down to have chicken noodle soup and chills kicked in. Checked temp a few hours ago and sitting at 100. Still have taste and smell so hoping it’s not Covid. We had family here from San Diego Sunday to Wednesday. My parents are supposed to come Monday with my aunt. Snow plans with friends 12/30. Other friends visiting 1/1-1/3. Soonest I can test is Monday.
BUT…. All presents are wrapped and under the tree. Stockings are sorted into bins and DH can assemble those. Santa sacks need to be found (DH will do this) and unwrapped presents go into those. I’m wiped out.

Not falling asleep...DH's snoring is out of control again...and all of the beds & couches are full...
But we did have a nice evening at my Dad's house with 3 of the 4 siblings/families that live out of state like us. The big get-together is tomorrow, but it's always nice being able to hang out with just a few of the siblings, especially when we only get to see the other 2 once or twice a year. Also got to enjoy my dad's oyster stew!

We went to mass - my whole household helped with the music, which made it even more meaningful. Half of us have received our PCR results (negative, thank God), and the other half are still waiting to hear. Two people with whom I work closely have come down with Covid in the past few days, so I'm very glad to be on vacation. We have a long drive tomorrow. I'm prepping sandwiches and snacks for the car so we can minimize our time sharing air with strangers in rest stops. It's been a weird run-up to Christmas, but I'm happy to have all my ducklings in the nest for a few weeks.

Christmas Eve is always Christmas dinner for us! Growing up my mom hated that she had to cook and prepare dinner while everyone else got to enjoy their gifts so she's done Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve for as long as I can remember. Then when I got with my SO it worked out where we could do the 24th with my family and the 25th with his. Cleaned the kitchen and made a peppermint bark cake (it wasn't very good ) then made and had prime rib, au jus, roasted potatoes, green beans, asparagus, and the best part... yeast rolls! Been watching movies all evening.. emmet other's jugband christmas, nightmare before christmas, and currently jingle all the way. A pretty easy peasy holiday here. ...minus all the dishes waiting for me 🙃

We celebrated Christmas. We had a nice dinner, and then opened presents. When you have to share grown grandkids with their spouses' families, you have to be a little flexible with celebrations!! We had a lovely evening. Some will be back tomorrow, but it may be at different times! Merry Christmas everybody. Enjoy your family and friends.

We have turned what might have been a sad night into a fun evening. DH practiced with our church worship team on Wednesday night and found out Thurs. morning that there was a chance he had been exposed. He had also been out of state via airline and in a large group last weekend, so he took COVID tests yesterday and today -- both negative. Our church service on Christmas Eve Eve turned into streaming only because of the COVID exposure on Wednesday, so we watched that last night. Tonight, DD and I went to dinner, looked at some lights, bought a couple of lottery tickets for the fun of it and then went to any stores we found open to try to buy treats for the staff at our nearby E.R. DD was treated there last weekend after an extreme reaction to the COVID booster, so we put together a little basket and a card with our appreciation and she dropped it off. Funny story -- she said the little old lady who was at the front desk at the hospital couldn't understand why she was there. DD tried several ways to explain it and finally left the basket and said, "Merry Christmas!" Hopefully, it made its way to the break room and the staff enjoyed a little sweet treat. Then we came home, have been wrapping gifts together and watching Christmas movies. We are in love with A Castle for Christmas starring Brooke Shields on Netflix. I've watched it twice now and it's the best. I've joked that the lack of a Christmas Eve service and the purchase of lottery tickets have made this the "unholiest" Christmas Eve ever, but we've had fun. Just thankful we can be together and so far, COVID has remained at bay.

I used hot Italian sausage and added canned green chiles because I was using them in another recipe so the quiche is slightly spicy and so good! At first I thought the egg/milk ratio was off but it baked up perfectly. Thanks for the recipe!
