We only use the Non Such brand of mincemeat---the variety that comes in a box.
Apparently it is no longer an option. I cannot find it for sale anywhere on the 'net.
To add to the tale of woe--We had 3 boxes in the freezer. DH has managed to burn all 3. First 2 he burned in a pan when preparing for Thanksgiving.
He was going to cook the last box last night for our Christmas dessert. He managed to put it on the stove and go outside, and burn this last batch on the planet.
We will have to use the product that comes in a jar. I tried that about 20 years ago and didn't like it, but I shall lower my standards.

I'm sorry. I switched to the jars a few years back and have been happy with it

My mom likes the stuff in jar, but only Nonesuch as well. What was different about the box?

Splash some Brandy or Rum into the jar, makes it much tastier.

My mom likes the stuff in jar, but only Nonesuch as well. What was different about the box? The box ingredients were called "condensed" and it was dry and in a brick. One has/had to crumble it up and simmer with water for x amount of time. We liked what we tasted.
The year I tried the jar product....it had rum added and that was definitely NOT to our liking. I see that now one can get it without the added rum, so perhaps it will taste the same.
I would think that dry fruits/raisins, wrapped in paper and put in a box would be easier shipping than liquid in a jar, but what do I know? The boxed product would go into our freezer (for even a couple of years) before eating it. I know we won't be freezing any jar of mincemeat.

I've never had mincemeat pie.
It is an acquired taste, I'll be the first to admit.
It is mostly apples and raisins, but other fruit is in the ingredients as well....and a tiny bit of meat (probably in 2021 a bit of beef is waved over the pan!) Many people find it not to their liking; but I think that just allows more for me and those who like it.
I think the British like it and it is a staple for the holidays there. My mother's family roots were in England and she and her side of the family like it. About half of my siblings and inlaws like it.

Hmm. My mom always uses Nonesuch in a jar with a splash of brandy, and it is great (for mincemeat, that is. Ha!) She converted 2 people this Thanksgiving over to mincemeat pie. Sorry yours didn’t turn out.

Interesting, does seem like it would be easier to ship in a box. I am sure the stuff my mom uses does not have rum as she and my aunt don't like any alcohol in food. I hope that maybe the non alcohol one will be to your liking, it is disappointing when a food you like and has meaning to you is discontinued. I can't eat mincemeat because of my allergies, but it does smell good!

I haven’t been able to find the box of non such for probably 3 or 4 years. It’s the one my grandmother preferred. I can usually find the jar if I really watch and get it early on the season. I think they quit making the box one. I even searched online and couldn’t find it anywhere

I can no longer purchase mince pies, so I have to go to my mom's city and buy it in the jar. It is my only option. No one wanted it this year except me. I am going to make it for New Year no matter what. If I go the entire season without a mince pie I will bring bad luck upon myself and everyone else.

I have to laugh at myself. I didn't realize my quest for mincemeat began in 2021! No wonder I want some, I have not had it in 3 Christmas holidays.
I came over here to report on what happened this year. 2023 --I searched for mincemeat and the (lying) google search said a grocery store 20+ miles away had it. DH and I drove to the store, but alas, no mincemeat there. As we were leaving, he saw a bin of mincemeat (jars) from the UK. Aha! we purchased it for our Christmas dessert. BLAH! BLECH!! That UK mincemeat was not to our liking. (It is now feeding the raccoons.) This morning I went to a nearby grocery store who had none. The store manager said this chain's warehouse did not order enough and his store received only 36 jars, which were all gone before Thanksgiving. I am making a note on my calendar to begin my search in early November of 2024.

librarylady - I suspect that your search may be harder going forward - Nonesuch Mincemeat has been discontinued.

librarylady - I suspect that your search may be harder going forward - Nonesuch Mincemeat has been discontinued. Thank you. Boo hoo, looks like mincemeat pie will become just a memory of my childhood...and my adult years for 50+ years. There is the saying, "All good things come to an end."
Someone said Smuckers bought the product, but the Smucker's website does not list mincemeat as a product they make.

You could try making your own, there are lots of recipes around and it’s not hard to make. I like this one from Mary Berry of Great British Bake Off fame.

I have to laugh at myself. I didn't realize my quest for mincemeat began in 2021! No wonder I want some, I have not had it in 3 Christmas holidays. My MIL makes it, and it's amazing. I too grew up eating it, my mom would get it from the local butcher. Sadly USPS decided to play baseball with her mince boxes because all 3 were returned to her leaking. She was furious, I was too as that meant no mince for us! She did make cookies and sent them to us but they're not the same.
