I joined the Y in October. Fully vaccinated, and now with a booster, cases were going down here so I wasn't concerned. Now I think Omicron is going to be everywhere. I hate to give up the progress I've made. Just finished 5 sessions with a trainer and if I don't go back for awhile, I'll forget everything he taught me.
So I'm planning to go tomorrow at the least busy time of day. I plan to wear a mask but I don't know how much I'll be able to tolerate it for exercise. I've never had trouble wearing a mask before but I didn't belong to a gym during most of the mask wearing times.
What do you do when going to the gym?

My husband is a trainer at our gym. He's got 6 clients in their 80's. Yikes. They mask up. That's it. I don't know if their vaccinated, but I assume they probably are.
He's been working in the Covid environment since last May when they opened back up. I am so thankful he has stayed healthy.

My gym has towels and spray bottles for each guest and most people leave at least one machine or a minimum of 3-4ft in between unless they are there together

I’ve gone back to the gym a few times over the last two years, always in a mask. I stopped going in September for covid reasons. I planned to go back in December but with the variant I decided against it. I’m also fully vaxxed and boosted.
My girls take dance class 4 days / week and they are required to be masked. There were some times in the last 2 years u made them wear two masks.
My dh also has to wear a mask all day every day at work.
So I decided that if they could then I would too. I felt much safer in my mask at the gym especially as others started taking theirs off. There are actually doctors who have run marathons in masks to prove that you don’t reduce air intake at all in a mask while exercising. There is a psychological barrier though - a feeling like we can’t get air. Once I heard about the doctors / marathons I realized I’d be ok. Now I know to just relax and breath normally in my mask while exercising.
I wouldn’t go to a gym without a mask right now. Actually we are pretty much sticking to home right now. I think the cases will explode in the next week. I understand we’ll all get it and my vaccine will hopefully help me get a more mild case but I’d rather be more cautious.

My studio has required vaccinations forever. We also have a mask requirement and we socially distance. I usually go to a class that has 2-3 people in a decent-sized room. We sanitize our equipment, and they sanitize the equipment between classes.

Everyone has a bottle of spray sanitizer and there are paper towels. Most people are good about personal space. I don't do anything else different and don't wear a mask.

I work out with just a trainer and dh. Small studio. Everyone she works with has to show proof of vaccination and wear a mask. We clean our equipment and she sanitizes it between clients. When Covid was really bad, she did virtual sessions.

Go at least busy time (we go to a very small gym so there are never big crowds), wear a mask, weights only. I don't do any cardio there because I'd rather walk/jog outside than do a cardio machine with a mask on.
Obv I'm vaxxed and boosted.

I have been going to the gym for over a year. I wear a mask, most people don’t. I’m in California and we have mask mandate but more than 90 percent of the people aren’t masked in the gym. I’m vaccinated but I would bet that most non masked are not just due to vaccination rates. I have zero desire to get sick, but I want to exercise, so I wear my mask and sanitize before and after. I use the elliptical for 30 minutes and I don’t find my mask to be a hinderance. The rest is just weights and the mask has no impact. For me, exercise is so important to my mental well being.

I started going to the gym after being boosted and before Omicron. I've started masking in yoga, and when I return to training in the gym next week, I'm going to start masking there too.

I use the elliptical for 30 minutes and I don’t find my mask to be a hinderance. That is good to know. This was what I was most concerned about. I started at the gym because of nerve pain issues that seemed to be made worse by walking outdoors. I couldn't go a half mile before I started getting pain down my leg. I can go at least 20 minutes on the elliptical without issues. I usually do that first and then weights. I'm taking multiple kinds of masks with me today to see what works.

Nothing. I'm still going at the same time I always do. It's fairly busy at that time because it is really early in the morning. Starting next week, I have to start going back to the office a couple days a week so I will just shift the days I go to the days I am working from home. We have really low case numbers and I'm not going to live in fear. We have indoor mask mandates and my gym is huge plus they have this unreal air filtration system. They are literally the cleanest gym chain in the country.
My mental health is more important to me and I refuse to live in fear. I'm not running out to get it nor am I putting myself at risk but I do recognize that everyone is going to get it at some point.

What are all you all's thoughts on the N95 mask they are now saying is what is effective for Omicron?
I sometimes wear the N95 masks when working in very dusty environments and they are unpleasant. Mine have the pop out that lets your breath out - which would not be good for use as a pandemic mask (good for you - but not so great for others). But when I wear this type of mask, I am usually scooping grain or something that causes me to breath more rapidly. They are not pleasant. And without out the pop-out, I can't imagine working out in one.

For no other reason than I am not going to throw away all the money I have already spent on masks. My ds has to wear them at his university and that is fine but I'm not going to run out and buy more masks.

If you are, you aren’t doing “nothing.”

And without out the pop-out, I can't imagine working out in one. DH has been wearing one all day at work since about April 2020, and anytime he goes inside anywhere. Zero exceptions, not even in the restroom. He does not have any issues wearing them, even outside in Texas summer heat. I don’t work outside the house so have worn them far, far fewer times and I’m not as comfortable with them as he is. Just wearing them isn’t the issue, it’s the humid environment they create within the mask, I have a hard time breathing in humidity. But the more I wear them the more used to them I get, I don’t wear any other kind. I don’t belong to a gym but if I did I definitely wouldn’t go without an N95, and they’d have to have a heck of an air filtration system as well. Cloth masks help, but they block a much smaller percentage of particulates. Surgical masks are the next best after N95s. It’s the heavy breathing that’s the real issue, not the germs on the machine. (Though of course it’s smart to keep those sanitized for the few cases that are spread this way, comparatively.)

I just bought some kn95 masks as suggested by our gov’t to be better. But if I was to go to the gym I wouldn’t be able to workout in one. When I went to the gym I wore a basic surgical mask as there was greater airflow.

So I went to the gym this afternoon. I wore a KN95 mask. I got a little hot a couple of times but mostly it was fine. I never felt I couldn't breathe sufficiently. I was wearing long pants as I have for the last month or so. It's so warm here now, I will probably switch to shorts or capris for my other visits this week. There were two other people there with masks and there seemed to be more people sanitizing the equipment. Otherwise, I could tell no difference in behaviors.
But then our state health department hasn't reported cases since the 22nd. I know they have had a horrible couple of years but I don't think this was the best time to take 5 days off from the case counts. I'm sure there is a lot more virus in our area than people realize.

My thoughts are that the N95 masks were what should have been available to us all along, instead we all were left to figure it out on our own. Still shaking my head over the socks, lace, paper towels placed in paper masks, latex masks, . . . . none of them effective.

I had been going to the gym before Omicron. Wore a mask when in larger areas, when working in pilates room one on one with trainer, took mask off.
Now? I'm doing virtual sessions with my trainer for a while. My gym is in suburban Cook, though, and they are now under a mandate that requires vaccination for all members, and either vaccination or testing for employees. I will still wait until things seem to be settling to go back in person, but I'm glad of the mandate. (Some members are NOT and are quitting/suspending memberships or saying they'll go to another branch in a nearby county to avoid it. So stupid.)

I'll wait until school starts up before I go back. The ages of 18-49 is the most prevalent in our area for testing positive for Covid. And they are hanging out at our gym in big numbers.

I do barre class - it usually has 4-10 people in it. Usually maybe one person is masked. I don’t wear a mask and do t do anything special other than being boosted and I got my flu shot.

I have to laugh at the bot’s response- if I bring my own equipment to the gym why exactly am I going to the gym?

I have to laugh at the bot’s response- if I bring my own equipment to the gym why exactly am I going to the gym? I like to grab my own treadmill before I head out. Doesn't everyone? Just pack your weights on top of it and you're set, workout accomplished without needing to do anything else. But it is kind of scary how much better the bots are getting. They only really trip themselves up here by being one-post wonders bumping up old threads in a small community where we "know" most of the main posters and can usually spot them without difficulty. In comments sections on FB or wherever, they can say whatever they like without being detected so easily.
