I make cards to send abroad (I'm in the UK) and since stupid Royal Mail changed the pricing structure, they now need to weigh under 20g otherwise the postage is almost twice as much. I love framing my Christmas cards with metallic mats, but the only metallic card available here is 250gsm which is heavy-weight, tissue paper, or seasonal gift wrap. I did find something that claimed to be 180gsm but it was pretty rubbish-looking and I wasn't convinced that the weight was correct. Even that is quite heavy.
Does such a thing as metallic paper of 68lb or less even exist? Can you get it in the States?

I love framing my Christmas cards with metallic mats One option you might try is using gold/silver foil over glue sheets. It works pretty well and you can stick the double-sided glue sheets to whatever weight paper you like. It's not as smooth as the metallic cardstocks, but it might work for some applications.

If using the paper as a frame, cut out the middle of the paper- will cut down on some of the weight.

One year when I couldn’t find foil card stock, I used foil gift wrapping paper. The paper that came from Costco worked best. The thinner gift wrap I purchased at Target had to be adhered to light weight card stock to give it enough body and make it smooth enough to lie flat.
I usually mat my cards with a very small 1/8” matting, so the foil wrapping paper worked pretty well.

Tim Holtz has a metallic pad of paper that is actually pretty thin - but still cuts pretty easily.

I'm not worried about how it cuts, more how much it actually weighs. Sorry - but I can't put my hands on the pad I have for information. I looked at Amazon for an example and some information and the reviews there suggest it is "card stock" - the Amazon and Scrapbook.com descriptors also say "stock". I have a scrap of what I *believe* is the Holtz metallic -- and it is thicker than I recalled. When I was looking through my stash I also came across a scrap of Canford Gold (Daler Canford Paper)- which Mr. Google reports is available at Amazon and other places. My scrap is definitely good copy-paper weight - descriptions on Amazon and Atlantis Art Materials suggest 32LB bond (but that is double sided and my sample is only metallic on one side) or 120 gsm (at the UK art store and *looks* more like my scrap - which is a frosted gold, not so shiny as the Holtz piece). The bar code from my scrap is 5 011385 93879 ... here is a link Daler Canford Paper

cardstock-warehouse.com has it. I love that company - the customer service is terrific and their paper - and cardstock - is lovely. I bought gold and silver text weight paper - not cardstock - to make envelopes when I thought I would be making Christmas cards. (I couldn’t because I broke my arm and shoulder.) The text weight gold and silver is 81 lb./120 gsm. (Printer paper generally is about 90-100 gsm and the cardstock warehouse paper does not feel heavier than higher quality printer paper to me - maybe just the barest bit? The drop down menu shows it in both cover weight (cardstock) and text weight. www.cardstock-warehouse.com/collections/metallics-cardstock-paper/81-lb-text?sort_by=manualThey sell other things than paper and examples of cards and other paper crafts are shown with many of the papers. They’re on FB too. Good luck - funny how one of the supposedly simplest supplies can give us the most grief. I only had a moment and didn’t read the other responses, so apologies if I’m repeating.

I purchased some shiny foil paper from the Dollar Store this year and it is thin, and shiny, and pretty. Would be exactly what you want for matting. It came 2 sheets of gold, 2 sheets of silver, 12x12, for $1.25 Cdn/package. I was hoping to die cut it...but it really doesn't die cut well at all. I wish I could get you some.
