I was surprised that there were not fireworks all over last night like usual (several golf courses near us usually shoot them off after dark), but right at midnight we heard them for about 20 minutes. Ours were going from 4 in the afternoon until at least 2 am. I feel so sorry for anyone in our area with PTSD or scared pets. I stayed up until 1:30 with the cats. Kept the TV on kind of loud to help drown out the noise, here we have the kinds that go up in the air and are really really loud. Yep, I had two scared little dogs on my hands. I had tried to go to bed early but it didn’t work out due to the stressful (for them) fireworks.

One cat is a little skittish but being next to me and having the volume up on the TV was enough to keep her calm. My precious Kit, who is in heaven now, loved the fireworks however. She would look out the window and meow at with them and look over her shoulder at me and meow as if to say, “Did you see that one momma?” she loved them! I had a dog in the past who was 70 some pounds and would try to crawl inside me when it was fireworks time. i’m assuming this is going to be the norm here however. They have been banning fireworks on the fourth lately due to fire risk, so I think they are doing this instead. I just wish they would limit the hours , it was incessant for almost 12 hours.

Starting at 6 pm we had fireworks (we've NEVER seen anyone in our complex set them off--they're not supposed to!), and heard the usual gunfire. It advanced from 1 shot at a time to the sound of a semi-automatic weapon. Lovely. Made me keep away from main walls here and try to be careful.
DD and I watched CNN just to see Anderson get goofy. His laugh is so sweet but it's silly to watch someone get so drunk. I was able to open a tiny bottle of champagne. I've never done it in my life + I have PTSD over the sound, but I did it! DD had her sparkling cider (ick) and made cocktail hotdogs.
