I knew this would come back... DeSantis claims he wants to buy the monochronal anti-bodies... But he wants us, the taxpayers to pay his largest donor through the feds!! DeSantis demands Feds allow Florida to buy $1 Billion in COVID treatment top donor has invested inDavid Badash, The New Civil Rights Movement January 04, 2022 Ron DeDantis has returned to public view after a two-week absence where he was accused of being "MIA" during record-breaking coronavirus case counts. On Monday the Republican governor held a press conference to blast President Joe Biden, demanding he allow Florida purchase a COVID-19 treatment that is manufactured by a company one of his top donors has heavily invested in. Standing behind a sign promoting "treatment" – not vaccines or masks – DeSantis said the GOP-controlled state legislature has approved one billion dollars to purchase the COVID-19 monoclonal antibody treatment, should the federal government allow it, WFLA reports. "Now that we’ve gotten the pathway cleared with Regeneron," DeSantis told reporters, referring to the company that manufactures monoclonal antibody treatments. “We have the ability and we will immediately turn on additional sites as soon as the federal government gives us a supply." He also named two other new treatments made by other companies. But as HuffPost reported, DeSantis had been "flying around the state promoting Regeneron" last summer. "Citadel, a Chicago-based hedge fund, has $15.9 million in shares of Regeneron Pharmaceutical, according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Citadel CEO Ken Griffin has donated $10.75 million to a political committee that supports DeSantis — $5.75 million in 2018 and $5 million last April."DeSantis also told reporters on Monday, “We are ready to go, on all of this, and have been ready for a long time,” referring to COVID-19 monoclonal antibody treatments. “We do not believe the federal government should be holding back anymore medications. We feel we have to offer this. Particularly for our elderly population.”DeSantis did not promote getting vaccinated or wearing masks, far less expensive actions that have better results.www.rawstory.com/desantis-demands-feds-allow-florida-to-buy-1-billion-in-treatment-top-donor-has-invested-in/florida-s-ron-desantis-claims-vaccine-shipments-are-on-hold-but-pfizer-says-he-s-wrong

Why does he want it? Regeneron is not effective against Omicron.
Aside from that, using it, while legislating against any mitigation efforts is reprehensible.

What a moron. (Why is it that I now only see his name as DeSatan??) I'd LOVE to know why these anti-vaxxers are perfectly okay with receiving these other meds & they have NO clue as to what's in them?? One form of supposed treatment (the window of treatment is so limited and it's not a cure!) is okay while the COVID-19 vaccines have been approved and around for so much longer? What sense does that make??
He makes it hard for all vaxxed people down here to feel somewhat safe. Every time I step out the door here, I worry (and I was triple-vaxxed). I have COPD & asthma, and I don't want to wind up in a hospital here (now). DeSatan didn't even care about his own wife who is supposedly undergoing breast cancer treatment. He doesn't wear a mask and then comes home to her. Idiot.

Dumbass. If he could read, he'd know there is a shortage of the new monoclonal antibody treatment for omicron. linkAnything "stockpiled" is less effective.

Your article says that Florida authorized the payment. So your first sentence and headline is incorrect. He wants the feds to release the medication, not pay for it.
Sad Floridians are willing to pay $1 billion for continuing to elect jackasses and not take basic precautions. The fed should continue to manage supplies so that access is widely available, not send a bunch to a state full of morons and leave those who've done the right thing with shortages.

Giving to me means he wants it GIVEN to Florida..
He says he wants to outright buy in from his donor, not buy from the government..

I think until they get the testing done properly, and fix their counts, they shouldn't get treatments. They need to backup the need for treatments with accurate test counts and positive counts.
Dumbass.

According to DeSantis people getting hysterical and getting tested all the time is not a good use of resources.

The original article, raw story is based on www.wfla.com/news/florida/gov-desantis-to-hold-news-conference-with-health-and-emergency-management-officials/The $1 billion is authorized by the FLORIDA legislature to purchase the vaccine directly instead of waiting for a federal allocation. Currently the feds are the sole agency able to purchase and are managing the supply - hence the call for the federal government to open up supply. DeSantis is a moron, but even the raw story headline is: DeSantis demands Feds allow Florida to buy $1 Billion in COVID treatment To say DeSantis wants federal tax payers to pay for it is inaccurate.

How much is an antibody treatment vs. a vax again?
Much "conservative".
Many "fiscal discipline".

So, they'll take whatever the hell is in the monoclonal antibodies but not the vaccine.

I thought that the two common ones weren’t effective against omicron snd only one is but there isn’t enough of it. I also don’t understand the we don’t know what’s in it and being against big pharma but pushing this. Same with ivermectin it’s big pharma lol.

This is why I firmly believe when you go into any elected office you should mandatorily have to divest yourself of receiving any dividends or owning any stock in any public company or consulting fees etc., as long as you are elected.

It’s even more galling that he’s using the old people of his state as reasoning for it. He does not give a shit about them otherwise. I don’t want anyone to die from this, but I wonder if he’s killed enough of them there to really hurt his re-election chances yet.

That's the whole point of the article. Currently the federal government is paying and determining how to distribute - Florida's legislature authorized $1 billion to buy directly and not rely on the federal government determining the allocation.

The federal government controls the supply because they don't want Florida or Texas to grab up all of the available supply. That's great that Florida allocated money, but they set it aside to pay the manufacturer directly. I doubt Florida is offering to pay the feds for the treatments they're asking for. Pfizer is claiming deSantis's statement about the supply not being available is inaccurate. 2 of the treatments are less effective against omicron, so Florida's request is kind of irrelevant anyway. Here's his statement www.flgov.com/2022/01/03/governor-ron-desantis-to-biden-administration-release-stranglehold-on-life-saving-monoclonal-antibodies/

If I was a Floridian I’d be pissed, imagine what that 1 billion could do for the state.

Facts matter. As I said in my post, I don't for a second think the feds should allow a free for all of states trying to buy up all the treatments, doesn't mean posting false information is ok.

From the articles that I read, it's unclear if Florida is asking for the federal government to give them treatments or asking for the feds to release control of the supply. I think he's asking for both. I agree that the $1 billion number is inaccurate, that's just the money Florida set aside. Honestly, I think DeSantis is trying to distract and deflect from the fact that he was MIA for 2 weeks during Florida's worst spike. He was taking his wife to cancer treatments but they found time to go to a football game? And he and his surgeon general continue to spread misinformation. www.forbes.com/sites/judystone/2022/01/04/while-covid-19-skyrockets-floridas-gov-desantis-and-surgeon-general-ladapo-are-still-spreading-misinformation/?sh=75bb7b2749c3
