I am having trouble getting the SU stamps that are mounted on foam to stick to my acrylic blocks. This happens with newly mounted stamps and older stamps. The only way I can get them to stick to the block is by using a little tape runner on the block and it will stick.
I've tried cleaning the blocks with soap and water, I've tried cleaning the back of the stamp that sticks to the block with soap and water but nothing seems to work. Do any of you have any tips or am I just stuck mucking up my stamp blocks with adhesive so the stamps will stick. FWIW, this does not happen with photopolymer or acrylic stamps, they stick just fine.

I haven't had any luck other than adhesive. Its one of the reasons that I don't buy SU stamps anymore. You pay a premium for them and they don't stick and fall off on your project, wrecking things. I've moved on to other companies that get it right.

I think this is a common issue for the early years of the cling mount stamps they came out with. Super frustrating, I know, and it seems worse in low humidity.
What I do with mine that will work a lot of the time is take the cling side of the stamp and rub it and my acrylic block briskly back and forth on my pant leg and then use both thumbs to adhere it. I've also touched it with a small dab of moisture (like touch the cling vinyl gently on my stamp cleaning pad) and also press firmly to the acrylic block. I've never had to use another adhesive, but I'm kind of a low volume stamper. I have friends that have put a thin layer of monoadhesive glue on a block and let it dry, so you aren't putting adhesive directly on the vinyl.
I've never looked into it, although I wonder if you could buy new cling vinyl and go right over the existing and trim it to match? FWIW, the new SU cling stamps use a new vinyl and there is no problem with them sticking at all. In fact if I leave them on any acrylic block for a day or two, I have to use a fingernail to loosen the edge to peel it off.

One trick I've tried and has worked fairly well for me for the older ones that don't stick is a thin layer of plain chapstick. I keep a tube of chapstick just for this purpose. I smear some on the non-ink side of the stamp and some on the block. It holds well enough to get some simple stamping done. Cleaning and vigorous inking can cause it to shift however. I keep a package of fragrance free, alcohol free, everything free baby wipes at my crafting desk to clean off the chapstick when I'm cleaning up and putting the stamp back away.

My solution is to spread a thin layer of Aleene's Tack it glue or Tombow glue over the stamp. I let it dry and it becomes a removable glue. No residue on the block.

These are great tips! Thanks everyone! My SU stamps are about 5+ years old so the age might have something to do with it too.

Yep, this is the exact reason I quite buying Stampin Up stamps. And I gave them up YEARS ago so nothing has changed.

They changed them and now they are super sticky. Too sticky in my opinion. I have to deactivate them before I stick it to the block, the first time using them I almost ripped the foam and stamp off. I use the left over stickers to cut them up and adhere to older sets.

My solution is to spread a thin layer of Aleene's Tack it glue or Tombow glue over the stamp. I let it dry and it becomes a removable glue. No residue on the block. This is what I do. I even removed all my wood mounted rubber stamps from their wood blocks, right down to the rubber. I painted them with the Aleene’s Tack-it-over-and-over glue, and it works well.
