Several months ago I posted that our oven was having problems, but DH ended up buying a new heating coil and it was working fine. The other day it started having problems again (smelled like burning plastic, smoking on the top, and then now won't heat). I think it really is dead this time, but maybe I will be surprised.
In the event that we need a new one, I have been looking online a little bit and am wondering what new features are worth it and which aren't. For example, several have an air fry option. Does that work well? What else should I look for and what to avoid? Or brands that are not good these days. I don't need the most high end version but want it to work well and last.

Since yours is broken, I'd go with what is in stock. Hopefully you have a good selection to choose from and others can give you an idea of features to consider.
If you need to order I'd really grill them about the realities of shipping and actually getting the item.
My in-laws bought a fridge late June 2021, with delivery early July. Many delivery dates later and they are still waiting for their fridge. Thankfully their fridge still works as they were looking to get a larger one.

Yes, I am worried about how long it will take to get it. There is one that I am looking at on the Home Depot website and it says delivery next Saturday. But I am not sure that is accurate. When we bought our washer and dryer there several years ago, that was the next available delivery option for the people doing the delivery, not when the product would be in stock. It took a long time to get it and they changed the date at the last minute several times. And that was pre-Covid.

We bought a stove last month. It was on crazy sale because they had too many in stock (Home Depot). I was able to schedule delivery anytime. I previously had a 20 year old Gemini with 2 ovens (it was a pea recommendation back then). Since I rarely needed both ovens, I let that go and now only have one. I also opted for a regular oven, not an air fryer. I have a toaster oven/air fryer combo thing that sits in my countertop, so I decided against that option. I also didn’t get the wifi-enabled option. Pretty sure I won’t be turning on the oven while I’m not home. For the first time I do have the griddle in the middle and I LOVE it. I use that thing all the time. We looked for the gas top with the widest griddle space. No regrets there. (Some of them were clearly not wide enough to heat a flour tortilla). My old Gemini also had the knobs on top, and I kind of miss that. I had babies back then so the knobs on top made more sense for security. But I can’t have knobs on top and a griddle. I’m definitely happy with my choice.

I would be interested to see what they claim is the difference between convection and air fryer options. Comvection blows air around. Air fryer blows air around. 🤷🏼♀️

Also, is it easy to clean the burners since it is not a glass top (at least the ones I found aren't)?

Also, is it easy to clean the burners since it is not a glass top (at least the ones I found aren't)? Mostly tortillas, but I’ve used it for tortilla-related food, like quesadillas and gorditas. I may or may not eat one buttered tortilla per day (I do). I also use it for over easy eggs, grilled cheese, pancakes, and French toast. I had a stove top griddle I used to use for all this, and I threw it away. I’ve only ever had a gas stove, so I can’t compare cleaning v. a glass top. The metal grates are pain in the ass and it already has stuck on bits. It’s only been a month, and it will never look new again.

My sil recently bought a Samsung stove. It's similar to mine, which I love. It's gas.

Does the oven have a fan that runs even when you are not using convection? And does that fan continue to run after you’ve shut off the oven? My fan runs for 10+ minutes after I’ve turned it off and it drives me crazy. I’ve been told it is because I have a digital control panel it needs the fan until it cools down. Since yours only has knobs (from what I see in the images) I’m wondering if you do not have the fan.

LG ProBakeWe've had this for about a month and been fairly happy with it. We also bought a dishwasher from Lowe's the month before and both were delivered in about 10 days. I haven't tested every single feature but overall we like it. The range surface is harder to keep clean than our previous flat top - that is about my only complaint. I do bump the knobs occasionally but they beep when turned on, so I always know.

My neighbor has an auction business where they buy and sell larger items/appliances from stores that are clearancing or going out of business. He has a new black Amana range that is pretty basic but it is $200. Our current appliances are black, although the range is black with a little white. But whenever we replace the fridge, I would probably want to get stainless. The one he has also has the coil burners rather than a glass top. I can't decide if I want to just go with what he has for now or spend more and get more of what I want...The main difference would probably be color and the glass top. If I was to buy a different one now, I might get the air fry feature if it was similar price to one without, but other than that I don't really see much difference.
I also don't quite understand the difference in cubic feet? I see some that are 4.8 up to 6.0. But when I measured the racks and the interior, they are the same sizes?

I would not get coils unless I had no other option. I'm not a fan of class cooktops, but I prefer them over the mess of cleaning coils. I'm notorious for letting a pan boil over! But for $200, you could take it and then order what you really want. Surely you can resell it for a similar price when you find the stainless one that you want (or ask him to be on the lookout for a stainless one.) Air frying is just what we used to call convection. It turns on a fan and it blows the air around. It does help cheap ovens keep a consistent temperature, but I've found that if I'm baking bread or a dense cake, I'll turn that off as the outside gets done quicker than the center. I have a 20 year old Italian oven and I'm 100% positive that it's just a cheap oven for a rental house. But it does just fine crisping up foods using the convection setting and makes the best roasted potatoes/veggies that I've ever made.

I don't think I have ever had an oven that had a convection setting. We use our air fryer all of the time so it would be nice to have the extra space to air fry more at one time, but it isn't a necessity. That's a good idea to have him look out for a stainless one. I was thinking we could probably sell the black one for similar to $200 if we wanted to get a set when we get a refrigerator, but then we would need to pay more at that time as opposed to just buying one of the items now and getting it done with. DH isn't home yet so I will see what he thinks about the options. Another good thing about the $200 one is that we can get it now rather than waiting. If only it didn't have the coils.

What else do you use the griddle for besides tortilla warming? Pancakes, searing meats and fish, vegetables, grilled sandwiches, eggs are all doable on a griddle. DH likes to do bacon on it, but I didn't care for all the grease everywhere so we bake that now. Does the oven have a fan that runs even when you are not using convection? And does that fan continue to run after you’ve shut off the oven? My fan runs for 10+ minutes after I’ve turned it off and it drives me crazy. I have double KitchenAid convection ovens with the noisiest fans on earth. Hate that thing with a passion and hope to get it changed out this year. It's to the point where I avoid using it, especially the top one. It was installed in 2013 and has always been this way. The single KitchenAid convection oven we had prior to this for 20 years was amazing, but not this one. One trick to help with the fan running during cool down is to open the door just a bit (I lay a potholder on that corner to warn off the family). We have found that it cools down in less than half the time now.

I'm pretty sure that you can sell it for $200 when the time comes to get rid of it. Even if it's $150, think if it as a rental stove for $50. Honestly, the oven I have on my list for our new house is close to $3,000, (it's either going to be one with French doors or with the door that slides under and out of the way) so I think $200 is a steal!

Yes, I have noticed leaving the door cracked significantly cuts down on the fan run time, which is great, but my tiny kitchen gets so hot I hate to add more heat. I hear about these unicorn ovens without a fan but I’m yet to find one.

I have noticed that the fan runs when on a regular bake, but I've never noticed it running after I shut the oven off, and I've never noticed any significant sound. We did just get it last year, so maybe newer ones don't run as long?

I got a Maytag that was in stock at the beginning of the pandemic. I love it! My favorite feature is that big window on the door in front. Maybe they all have such big windows now but I can really see what is inside. I didn't know if I would like the steam cleaning but I do. It takes far less time, isn't that messy and doesn't give the house that awful smell that traditional oven cleaning - where it heats for hours - does. It is a convection. I use that some but not all the time.

We're also going to be buying a new range. We don't have gas in our house. Any opinions on induction cooktops?
