What do you have on your desk top? I have a couple of mats, but I'm thinking of putting plexiglass or something across the whole table top. Any experience with this?

I have a cutting mat in the center of my desk. It is a wooden executive desk. I don't mind if it gets banged up so I haven't really considered plexiglass.

I have a fairly large piece of tempered glass on my tabletop. Works well for me. Cleans up very easily & can withstand the Xacto knife cutting. It's convenient because it's just always there & I don't have to go find a cutting mat or craft mat when I want to get messy. Not sure how plexiglass would hold up.

I've had desks with both plexiglass and real glass I much prefer the real glass! You can't cut on the plexiglass so you still have to drag out a cutting mat, it scratches just from sliding things on it, and adhesive sticks to it very easily. With glass no cutting mat is required, and adhesive doesn't really want to stick to it. Also, because the plexiglass is light it tends to want to slide around on my table, even though it's a huge piece.

I have an old teacher's desk with one large green craft mat and a glass cutting board I bought at Kmart - the glass board works a lot better for some kind of cuts (eg, the Martha Stewart Circle Cutter). I find I get cleaner stamped images on the glass too, possibly because there's no resistance from the mat. It's an old, beat-up desk so I've never worried about getting paint etc over the surface.

I have plexiglass on mine. I bought it after I spilled some undu on my new desk. I also have a craft mat on top of the plexiglass. I have dozens of pictures underneath the plexiglass.

I don't have anything on top of my vintage, wooden desk. If I were to choose between glass and plexiglass, I would pick glass.

I usually scrap in the living room on a collapsible table so I don't worry about it. But I'm another one who would vote for glass over plexiglass for the reasons the others have listed. Plus, plexiglass can yellow and crack if it's not high quality.

I have real glass and sometimes use the large Fiskars mat. I have a white Ikea extendable dining table. I had a separate piece of glass cut for the extension. The extension and it's glass fit inside the table when not in use. I love the real glass.

I scrap on my dining room table. Right now I have a large craft mat I got at Walmart. When I get my own scrap table (someday . . . ) I will definitely go for glass.

My desk has nothing on it, but I don't actually scrap at my desk. My laptop, desktop and cutter are on it. I have two big heavy duty banquet tables that I bought cheap from a lady who did alterations and the tops are TRASHED. So when I had the cabinet guy come in to measure for cabinets and counters, I had him give me a quote for new laminate table tops for them. I have a few different self healing mats that I'll put down to work on so the new ones don't get ruined.

My scrap table is a kitchen island I got at Big lots that has a butcher block top on it, so I'm not overly concerned with keeping it clean. I do use a cutting mat on top of it most of the time. Years ago when I was scrapping at the kitchen table, I would use those vinyl tablecloths to protect it and a craft mat on top of that. I could just fold up the tablecloth and store it with my scrap stuff until the next time I scrapped.
