My in-laws left us with a ton of severely tarnished silver pieces from the 30's. Is there a market for these?

Yes, FBMP or EBay. Sterling for sure and quite a bit of silver plate is being used. I'm a member (lurker) of a table setting group on FB and those gals love a bargain. For sure they appreciate all their china whether it is their 3rd set or 12th set!

Just saw this and asked the same question in the crystal thread. All mine are silver plated and a PITA to polish.

I can't see silver making a comeback because of the care.
Crystal, from what I've seen, is being used daily. Silver cleaning and maintenance doesn't lend itself to daily use. My sister has our parent's silver and I've only seen her pull it out once in seven or so years.

I use silver for all holidays and some dinner parties. I love my mum’s silver and her formal China. They would be my first pick ever. Her tea service I want something better.

I've pretty much gotten rid of the silver pieces we got for our wedding back in 1991. I hated trying to polish it LOL. I do still have the huge silver platter, though. It isn't too hard to clean, and it looks pretty in my china cabinet. It is only silver-plated, so it isn't worth a lot.

I know someone who frequents flea markets and estate sales, and this is one of the things he finds with the most resale value. I just polished my sterling snowflake ornaments before putting them up for the season, and it made me want to use my silver more....or maybe pull out the pieces that are too put up to really use occasionally. Tea party anyone?

All mine are silver plated and a PITA to polish. You can buy a liquid 'dip'. It comes in a tall container, with a basket inside. Just a very quick dip will make the tarnish disappear instantly. I use circa 1936 silverplate flatware for my everyday silverware. I love it! I run it through the dishwasher and dip it to get the tarnish off as needed. Not very often. I have some silver paste if I want to really make it look nice. It is just SO nice to use!

Utensils or hollow ware? There are certain silverplate flatware patterns that people buy for decent money but overall, not very popular from what I've seen as a vintage reseller. Sterling has value from the metal alone. I also find sterling much easier to clean up and polish than silverplate so it is actually less maintenance.
As for hollow ware, generally most silverplate items are not valuable but there are outliers. Footed or high rimmed trays generally are more desirable than flat ones but again, depends on maker and pattern. Quadruple plate is a sign to me to look it up. If I can't find my item based on the info on the bottom, I use google lens to search and that helps figure out what I have. Wright's silver cream Goddard's Silver Polish Foam with a drop of dishwashing soap is the best thing I've used to get tarnish off of silverplate. (Link a couple of responses below)

I have a beautiful silver tea service that is tarnished. Is there a way to get it clean easily?

My sister has our parent's silver and I've only seen her pull it out once in seven or so years. That's too bad (about the silver). Once you have it all polished and shiny, USE IT! If you continually use it, it stays clean and there's less maintenance, according to my mom's past advice.

I think people are using silverplated items in more ways than just serving tea or food.
When I am thrifting I usually buy footed trays if they are cheap. If it isn't a brand or pattern that people are buying on ebay for decent money, I use them under my plants to protect my furniture from water. I have succulents in old trophies. My scrubby is in a tall compote next to my kitchen sink. I have hand towels in my downstairs bathroom on a small rectangle tray. I have silver casserole holders all over my house: they hold rings, craft paints, and k-cups.
