I was doing a Christmas page last night using Vicki Boutin's Christmas line. Someone on here mentioned fussy cutting out the ornament paper, which sounded cool, so I thought I'd try it. They are so cute but for some reason I just couldn't make the page come together. I struggled for an hour rearranging things and even though I ended up with a completed page, I'm still thinking about it this morning. I just might pull that page apart and try again today.
Do you ever make a layout and it just so underwhelms you that you have to take it apart and try again? I've done it with layouts that are over 10 years old. I go through my boxes of layouts and some will just bug me and demand to be fixed.
It is really weird, sometimes I'll like a page and then I take a photo of it. I look at the photo and all of a sudden I'll see a glaring "mistake". I know supposedly there are no rules to scrapbooking but I just can't do a page that has trapped white space, or doesn't balance or the subject is looking off the page. I have too many years of being the yearbook advisor- It just offends my art teacher heart.
Anyways, are you able to walk away from a less-than-ideal layout, or do you go back and "fix" it?

I have never redone a page I completed in the past. I might rescrap the photos for a different album or maybe in combo with other photos, but have never torn apart something that has been finished for that long. So many uncrapped photos; so little time...
BUT, I have rethought a page just put together. Sometimes I go to bed not liking a page, and then in the morning wake up with a solution to make it work. It might be to rearrange things, or add something, or change the title, or add a spot of colour to one page to tie it to the one facing it, or any or all of those things. Good luck with yours!
Sometimes I realize I had been trying too hard to "get it right" or use the technique or papers or supplies, or follow a sketch when what I really needed to do was focus on the story I want to tell. Then it suddenly all comes together.
And yes, I have often seen the photo of a LO and gone back to it to make changes to correct something: add an element, correct some spelling, streighten a photo, or fix something else that drives me crazy when I see the photo on my computer screen.

I would imagine being an art teacher might mean you have a more critical eye than many of us. I still have pages that don't sit right though. If I can't make it work, I just have to put it away for a while and then go back to it before it goes in the album. Most of the time I can just add a little bling and I am good.

I have redone layouts and was so much happier with them. I don’t do it often. Often times I’m ok with not being totally 💯 thrilled with a layout but if I hate it I’ll redo it.

I will know within the first 15-20 minutes whether a page is going to come together the way I want it to or not. If I get that far and it still feels wrong/weird to me, I will stop and most often save it (I'm digital) and walk away. If I come back and still can't figure out what's wrong, I will delete it forever. I'm primarily a storyteller who tries to make pretty art vs. an artist who tells stories so my scrapping is very intuition-based and not based on actual artistic principles. I don't like to tweak so I'm fine with just deleting and trying again another day.

There have been many times there are LOs I don’t like or just don’t sit right. At times I’ll add something later or I just let it be. I’ve redone a page maybe two times in the past 20 years.

I haven't taken apart and re-done a layout, but I have a few that are un-adhered and just sitting in page protectors in a pile. I look at them now and again and occasionally am inspired to take another try...but mostly they sit and wait for me.

There are some that I just hate as they are going together. Color, balance, photo placement just don't work. Those get laid aside for later. Then there are some that I push through thinking the best thing about them is that they are done. But take one totally apart? No. Not even the ones I did 20 years aho

I've gone back and fixed things that came loose or corrected misspelled words, but I've never taken apart a complete layout to re-do it. Not every layout will be a work of art, and some things just don't work out the way I wanted them to. What's important to me is that the memories are documented and I had fun creating the layout.

Um, yes. I am just this moment taking a break after completely disassembling a DD page and redoing it in a completely different way. It’s been bothering me for over a week and distracting me from continuing progress on other pages, so I finally gave in and just got it done and over with. In the end I like it much better. The time spent on the first page was considerable, and re-work was much more quick and simple. I hate the wasted time spent on the thing that nobody will see, but I was so irritated with the end result I didn’t want anyone to see it anyway. 😂 Part of the process. Carrying on….

I scrapbook in chronological order, and usually don't go out of order, but sometimes it's necessary. Sometimes, I need to step away from overthinking it or feeling frustrated that a page is not coming together as I planned it in my mind, or I am not loving the overall look of the page, or I can't put together any ideas at all. I will go ahead to the next group or two or more of photos. Then I will go back to the uncompleted pages.
I am a theme, event, document my day to day life and it's happenings, etc...type scrapbooker. After 25 years of scrapbooking, and multiple Birthday parties-dinners-lunches-gatherings-drinks-etc... a year, it's sometimes hard to come up with a new or a good idea. When this happens, I will usually pick up some new products (paper, stickers, embellishments, etc...) so I have something new to work with.

If a layout won't "come together" for me, I do try to push through and make it work with a redesign, but will often realize that I need to start right from the beginning with different size or number of photos, or different papers/colours. I rarely push through to the bitter end...but if I do...and I still hate it...I just leave it.

Usually if I finish a page and don’t really like it, I shrug and move on. I will never run out of things to scrap. I’m definitely a big proponent of done is better than perfect.

I have an album of older pages that I just couldn't connect with for whatever reason and did not want in my "nice albums" so those less than stellar layouts would get banished to the ugly album. It took a really long time for me to accept that it is okay to pull apart, redo or even throw out layouts that I am not happy with. Sometimes it all just comes together and other times even after I have walked away multiple times it just doesn't work out. I have not put anything in that ugly album for such a long time because I bin or rework those layouts that are just not working for me but I do really want to go back and redo a number of those pages in my current style because there is some pretty great memories and moments in that folder.

I definitely pull stuff apart and re-do it, and don't enjoy looking at old pages where I know I used a paper because it was the best I had at the time but always hated it and it doesn't represent anything about my style or tastes. I've torn apart and reworked many an album, usually simplifying them into photo books.
I also can't make ornament die cuts work on my cards (my main crafty Xmas thing now). I've seen cute ornament cards but I struggle with them. They just don't look right when I try to do them.

This is usually where I am - there is one page in my DD that I'm just not happy with but it's done and in the album and so be it.

I have completely torn apart a layout and started over a few times.
Usually, I know almost right away I hate it, but will keep trying to make it work. I should just give up sooner.

I don’t glue anything down until I am at least comfortable with the results. If anything about the layout bothers me, but I can’t figure out what it needs or how to change it, I set it aside in a 12x12 envelope for a week or more. Sometimes just walking away from a layout and working on a different one gives me enough time for my subconscious to formulate new ideas or something. Anyway, putting it aside usually works, and my creative juices usually rise to the occasion for getting it finished after the break. Once I stick everything down, I won’t redo it. I make sure I am either happy with it, or at least reasonably comfortable with it before getting out the tape gun. Pulling items off the page after using adhesive often ends up warping or creasing the photos or embellishments, and that would bother me even more than a mediocre page.

I'm a painstakingly S-L-O-W scrapper due to my perfectionist tendencies & must be satisfied with each step, & will rework/quit & restart as much as necessary, before proceeding. While it takes a ridiculous amount of time to complete a layout, I'm woefully behind but content with the end results & never redo.

I don't think I've ever re-done or changed a completed layout. I definitely have layouts that I don't like the finished product, but I let them be and move on. Trying to be perfect in all things is a losing battle for me, so I try really hard not to play that game.

I redo layouts. There are a couple I put together last year that I'll be redoing at some point. I feel like the backgrounds are too busy for the photos. No rules.

Oh my, yes! I was working on a layout this past weekend and finally took it all apart and used completely different paper. Changed everything. Then I used the previous layout for different photos and made changes of course.
I would take the layout completely apart and redo it without a second thought.
A friend at the crop put together a kit and she didn't like it. I bought it from her and took it apart, redid it my own way and I love it. Definatley take apart a layout you don't like. I don't have to love it but when it doesn't work it has to go.

Oh absolutely. Mostly it happens when I take layout classes and didn't do enough to make the layouts my own.

I may have taken apart an album (or two or three) in the past to redo every page. Thankfully I’ve outgrown that.
