1/22/22 Well, it got me. Started getting a headache yesterday and had a sleepless night with weird, never ending dreams (always a sign I am sick). Tested this morning at home and got a positive very quickly.
***********
I attended my book club Tuesday evening and we met for 2 hours on a patio. No one wore a mask. Yesterday the woman I sat next to told us she tested positive for COVID. This is the first time I have knowingly been exposed for that length of time.
In your experience, how long before symptoms appear? When might I test positive?
I am currently masking around my family and staying away from them as much as possible. We have a few home tests, when would it be best to take one?
What were your first symptoms - if you had any?

with omicron they are saying 3 to 5 days, sometimes as quickly as 2 days.

Few at my house had omicron over the holidays. Definitely within the 3-5 day mark. I'd say around day 3. Symptoms for most that had it was a sore throat and (sinus) congestion.
Thankfully most of the rest of those they were around were spared even though it's thought to be very contagious. My dd was at her inlaws (as well as our house) on Christmas and tested positive 2 days later, only her SO got it. Same with ds and his inlaws, they had it and exposed him/his SO and they also stayed negative. And this was all inside, prolonged visits.
So hopefully you'll be negative. fyi...one of ours who had it had zero symptoms and was positive. So if you're testing, i'd wait until around 5 or so days to test unless you have symptoms.

I have no idea when/where I was exposed as we traveled over the holidays. But I tested before going back to the office and was negative on Sunday. Had symptoms a little bit on Monday night (seriously felt like allergies) then fine on Tuesday and got worse Tuesday night and woke up Wednesday feeling definitely off. Tested again that day and was positive.
My first symptoms were itchy/runny nose with sneezing, lots of sneezing. And a slightly sore/raw/dry feeling throat. Then congestion, then slight fatigue. None of the symptoms were very bad at all except the dang sneezing. That was annoying.

My dad was exposed from my brother, and didn't show symptoms until about day 8.

I agree, 3-5 and started with a sore throat/runny for both DD and DH. DH was boosted, his symptoms are really mild, but he's got a week off from work so I'm giving him a honey do list lol.
Seriously though, you might want to prep anyway. Go get you some Theraflu/Nyquil and get stocked up. Around my area the shelves are bare and you don't want to be caught without any meds. Make sure you have soup or easy meals on hand too.
Then you can just hunker down if you do get sick and quarantine while you get better. <hugs>

DD was directly exposed (all weekend unknowingly) by her BFF who she spent the night with on Saturday and ran around with all day on Sunday & Monday. BFF was sneezy, scratchy throat, just blew it off as weather/allergies. Tuesday she woke up feeling even worse, so tested and it was positive. DD has had a sore throat (like she swallowed broken glass, her words) and a headache. She has a muscle disease so aches and pains are the norm for her so that wouldn't be an obvious symptom. She tested Tuesday night, negative. She isn't feeling any better, but not really any worse, and hasn't had a fever at all. She is vaxxed & boosted.
Should we test again? This would be day 3 since BFF tested positive (and her mom tested positive yesterday).

Should we test again? This would be day 3 since BFF tested positive (and her mom tested positive yesterday). This is the situation we're in. Both DS and DH tested positive last week. We were able to quarantine DS in his room, and DH stayed in one area of the house. DD and I both have scratchy throats, but I was finally able to get some tests yesterday and we were negative. We have one test left and It's been impossible to find them here. I felt like I'd won the lottery when I was able to get 3 yesterday. I'd rather DD use it so we can keep her home from school if necessary

She has already been staying home, and wears her mask if she has to leave her room. We only have one bathroom and a pretty small house (like under 1000 sq ft.) so it's really tough to "isolate" but we're doing what we can. I told her if she wanted to test again it was up to her. None of the rest of us have had any "symptoms".

Should we test again? This would be day 3 since BFF tested positive (and her mom tested positive yesterday). A friend of mine had Omicron after being triple vaxxed (three full doses due to an immune disorder). Symptoms after 2 days. Positive on day 6, after taking 3 at home tests and I think either 3 or 4 PCR tests. I would test again.

My niece went for lunch on a Sunday then didn’t leave the house again as she works from home so no outside contact. Symptoms started Tuesday but negative test. She tested again on Thursday and that was positive. Hope you are OK.

I'm in the same boat. 3/4 of the workers on my remodel crew tested positive yesterday. They're all vaxxed and boostered, so nobody is seriously ill, but they were working in my house for 8 hours both Monday and Tuesday.
I have some Amazon tests being delivered Saturday, so we'll take them over the weekend. Not going anywhere in the meantime.

I’d probably test in a day it so.
Especially if vaccinated and boosted.
I have a friend who had zero symptoms testing positive, so it doesn’t seem to be a given you’ll always get them.

My neighbor mentioned it took 3 days post symptoms for her at home tests to turn positive. They're much less sensitive than pcr tests, so you probably should wait longer to not just waste them.

I am so paranoid. I was at a football game on Saturday with 60,000+ people. No one was wearing masks. Starting yesterday, I had a mild sore throat. Today, I am getting a bit congested. I have been really tired. Should I test? I have no idea if I was exposed.

Please do a delivery if you need supplies, or ask a friend or family member to pick them yup for you. Based upon our experiences last month, I would wait at least 3 days to test. Adult son and his partner each did not test positive until they were firmly symptomatic.

LOL I'm the only one delivering to her door, and retrieving dishes, etc. She wipes the surfaces of the bathroom(with lysol wipes)after she uses it too.

DH is very sure his exposure was on a Thursday between 9 and noon. He began running a fever on Saturday afternoon. Tested positive on Sunday.
Good thing is he slept Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and on Wednesday got up feeling "back to normal."
We are waiting 10 days to test him again. Meanwhile he is staying at home and only interacting with me.

DS was exposed on a Friday morning and started getting a mild sore throat on Sunday evening. Sore throat and sniffles on Monday. It was really quick.

I have no idea how long between exposure and symptoms - I work at a school (often in the elementary classrooms), so have assumed constant exposure. I started getting a mild sore throat one afternoon, wasn't sure if it was all the talking in the classroom or something else. I still had it in the morning, tested, and I was positive. I'm vaxxed and boosted, mask, and have avoided indoor unmasked situations - but I think I met my match with Omicron + second graders. I had a slight sore throat, headache and rumbly stomach the first day, and after that mainly congestion (head and I can feel it like a chest cold too). I'm on Day 8 and still have the congestion, but otherwise feel okay.

The pediatrician wouldn't test my boys until day #5 when my daughter had Covid. That's apparently when they're having the best results for catching positive cases. I was told that home tests produce a lot of false negatives, but not false positives. So depending on your level of exposure you may want to try to schedule a PCR test.

Don't know when I was exposed. I had fr appointments Monday (10th)and Tuesday (11th). Felt like blah Thursday, Friday, Saturday, woke up vomiting Sunday. Did a home test negative. Still felt bad Tuesday went & got tested pcr, results today positive. Took another home test today and it's negative. Not trusting home tests. I am still sick, cough, headache, congested, fever.
I am glad that I am not sicker being high risk and that I just had a 4 hour infusion on the 11th that suppresses my immune system.

We have Omicron in our house right now. My husband called me from work on Thursday and said he wasn't feeling well and was planning to use a sick day on Friday. Thursday night he had a headache, body aches, and was running a fever of about 101. There are no tests to be purchased where we live, so he called his school nurse on Friday who said he could test in the lobby of his school. Sure enough he tested positive. I also teach, so I went to our office and took a rapid test after he called. It was negative. They sent me home with a couple more tests so I can test before Monday. I made a point to scan all of my work that I would use next week, so that I can easily set up my work online from home. My desk is clean and work is labeled. I also got some work together for my husband's class and ran it over to his school. We were in good shape for groceries, but last night I placed a grocery pick up order for this afternoon. We could easily go several days without needing anything.
Where do we think DH got it? We went to a hockey game on Saturday night. Everyone around us was in masks, including us. On Sunday we were in a restaurant, but were there at an odd time, so all the tables in our section were empty. Monday we were off from school. Tuesday he was back in the classroom. Covid has been hitting his district hard. I feel like the hockey game is probably the source due to the timing of his symptoms. I feel like it is inevitable that I'll get it, but we'll see. I'm well prepared if I do.
We are feeling thankful that we're vaxxed and boosted. My husband is feeling a lot better right now - no fever and just has cold like symptoms. His vax did its job.
