I'm probably doing this the long way, so trying to see if there's a quicker process.
How do you handle the iPhone .heic photos? Is there a way to save them as .jpg on the phone? If not, is there a good way to convert them to jpg once you upload them to a PC?
My current process is uploading them from the phone to Google Photos (which I would do even if they were jpg's), opening in Irfanview, copying them and opening to a new file in Photoshop Elements, cropping, brightening, etc., and then saving as a jpg.
My big issue is not being able to open the .heic files directly into Elements.

On your iPhone, under Settings, Camera, Formats, then select Most Compatible. That will switch taking new photos from being saved as high efficiency to JPG.
ETA: I know this doesn’t address current photos, but hopefully will help you moving forward.

My big issue is not being able to open the .heic files directly into Elements. I just convert the couple I get sent by my Mom on: HEIC to JPG and then save the jpg to my computer, then do the usual from there. For whatever reason, her iphone keeps reverting back, even though I've gone in and changed the setting many times.

If you upload your photos to Google photos, Amazon, or even Shutterfly you should be able to download those photos and they'll be in jpg format. I just tested from Google photos and it download each photo as 2 files, one jpg and one .mov (since I have live photo turned on). It's a pain to do that but it's a workaround. There's also these instructions. I haven't tried them because I don't have a PC but it looks fairly straightforward. How to convert HEIC to JPEG on a PC

Thank you jediannie! I've been having trouble like OP so I'm going to try this out. OP, I use the Google photos app on my iphone, then go to my PC and to go around the .heic to .jpg issue, I just hit control P and it pops up a window to print the photo. I don't think that's what you were looking to do, but for me, it works in a pinch.
