Welcome peas, to the weekly spotlight on a Pea project! The intent is to highlight all the talent and variety of styles and projects on the board, recognize a deserving pea, and inspire our own creativity with challenges based on the project. I really hope Peas will SHARE their creations with us - I will head to the Flickr gallery every week to choose a project, but will also keep my eye on the boards if Peas share their projects in other ways. I'd like to stay "recent" in these projects, but make no guarantees that I won't dive deeper into our past. Please help me: if a Pea project catches YOUR eye and you think it deserves recognition, PM me and point me towards it! Here is this week's pick from the sweetest pea on the board, nylene . Grandmas by Nylene Budge, on Flickr What I LOVE about this layout, and about all of nylene 's layouts (take a look through her gallery and you will see) - clean design - even margins, good use of white/restful eye space - strong matting and contrast - use of THEME - using those embellishments/stickers/die cuts and celebrating the topic! - use of colour - she often has a NEARLY monochromatic layout but uses a few strategic splashes of colour to really make the whole thing pop! - fabulous use of pps - clean layers or half-n-half pages - a matted title that stands out from the background - and, very importantly, her amazing Die Cuts!!! I know she mainly uses an electronic die cutter, and they are adorable - layered titles, paper piecings, perfectly matched bits and bobs! I challenge you - and me - to use this layout as inspiration for a project this week! Some ideas/challenges for you: 1. Create an ALMOST monochromatic project. Use about 80% of your chosen colour, and judiciously splash a couple of other colours in! 2. Mat those photos - use either a wider mat, or a strongly contrasting mat, or a double mat! 3. Embellish with a THEME - not just a wishy washy camera, heart, feather or arrow. No random pineapples or llamas! School? Use school supplies and apples. Sports? Use balls and bats. Driving? Use cars and road signs! Pet layout...pull out those dog and cat stickers! You get the gist. 4. Use CURSIVE or "swooshy" lettering in your title/sentiment 5. Make a BABY layout/card, or a GRANDPARENTS layout/card. 6. Use a DIE CUT or PUNCH on your project *if you are on the challenge teams, completing any TWO of those challenges will fulfil this week's POTW challenge for 10 points!

Actually the grandma on the right is my daughter. Can't believe she's a grandma already, but just found out she will have another grandchild in Aug from younger DD. kitbop, thank you for your nice words about me and my page. I think I am a boring scrapper so this is a real honor. You are so sweet to do this each week.

BORING? Absolutely no way. Classic. Clean. But your layouts always have multiple things about them that make them pop! Also...I forgot to add one of my FAVOURITE things about nylene! I'll edit my challenge list above to reflect it too. HER DIE CUTS! Her electronic die cuts are fabulous from her title to her bits and pieces whether they be 1 layer or paper pieced.

nylene surely is the sweetest Pea ever. I am so glad that I was able to meet her in person several years ago. I love Nylene's style, always have always will. Clean and Classic! She does both whimsy and elegance when the theme requires. Her family must be so proud of how she has documented their lives with just care and attention to detail. I will gladly give this project at try, but it will not live up to the nylene original!!!!!

I remember this layout! It caught my eye because of the beautiful just right use of color. I bought some sheets of that shade of light blue after I saw it.

Well, this was an easy one for me since most of my pages look pretty much alike. LOL Thanks kitbop for doing this each week. Giving Machines

Here is a bad picture of what I came up with for this. Think I got Monochrome and themed and matted. There is lots of foil and glitter on this LO and I can't get it to photograph properly.
POINTS: two pages created & shared (4). Six photos scrapped for the Donna challenge (6). POTW prompts monochrome & matting (10),P-1 foiled cs (1), P-4 vellum cut apart (1), P-7 two types of letter stickers and ornaments (3), P-10 glittered title (1), P-15 KK, BB, E&V, HOTP (4), P-16 old BB; new Crate Paper (1), S/I-2 four rectangular photos (4), S/I-10 circle cb (1), C/M-1 shades of blue (1), C/M-5 silver (1), C/M-6 pearlescent specialty pp (1), T-1 one torn edge (1), Th-1 six Dec '21 pic's (12), -12 teamwork (1), N/S-5 five pic's on page one (2). TOTAL: 55
nylene I am always amazed by your pages, but I don't try to lift them often b/c I find it difficult to keep my pages elegant and properly aligned. These pages are a little less messy than my usual, LOL.

grammadee, I don't think your pages are messy at all. I love all the techniques you use in your pages. I am afraid to try anything too daring. I left you love in the gallery.

I love nylene's style, it's like the LBD of scrapping, always classic, always in style. I love how she uses patterns, so understated but always has a lot of impact, and her embellishing is always gorgeous, the perfect finishing detail.

here's my take - I was aiming for monochromatic but don't think I quite managed an 80/20 split but I matted, used cursive in my title, and punched the snowflakes. Another throwback photo from 2010...

nylene I have always thought you and I have very similar scrap styles. This is my take on the inspiration layour although it is pink and brown instead of white. I was immediately inspired by a recent photo of my Dgd1 with her Nana and me that I will be scrapping in a few weeks. This layout I am posting uses some poor photos with elements I thought took the focus off the poor photos and more to what is going on in them. Telling the story with embellies so to speak.

myboysnme - sweet layout - I like how you made the best of the photos you had (which are super cute) and accented them with the embellishments to draw out the story more

Linda, you did a great job with the monochromatic. I love the deep red and the cream is a neutral so that doesn't count as a color. I need to scraplift this for all the school photos I have taken down from my wall and need to put into albums. I always struggle with those photos. Your white spatters are pretty with your snowflakes. myboysnme, your page is so sweet. I am honored that you think we scrap alike because I love your pages. I get great ideas from them. I'm glad to see you joining in with the POTW challenges. That big glittered Sweet is perfect for this page. Even with photos that aren't the best, your page says what you wanted to remember. In years to come she will look at those photos and remember the fun they had in the little kitchen that day. Pretty page.

Linda, I like the formal look the black mats give to that portrait page. Sweet, indeed, myboysnme! Love those photos of the sweet little chef and hostess. Who is she channeling do you think?

Here is my attempt to be "theme(y)", and clean/classic look. I believe I completed 2 of the challenges listed #2 Theme, and #3 matting.

Thanks for the challenge kitbop . I love this page of nylene 's. The colours grabbed me first, and I thought I was going to use that as my inspiration, but I ended up using completely different colours. I copied Nylene's triple matting, and her triple matted title. Oh, and I actually DID use a wishy washy camera!
