Wouldn't it be wild if Biden nominated Anita Hill? Clarence would probably have his wife call her, again. 😏

Any thoughts on other front runner being mentioned, Leondra Kruger? Especially lizacreates and epeanymous - but anyone else who's followed her career? I'm just getting up to speed on the potential nominees. TIA She is fantastic too — similarly sterling credentials, lots of pertinent experience from her time in the Obama administration. I also am an obvious fan of her age. Really, all the names I am seeing floated are brilliant women with perfect credentials and impressive experience. I think we have less ability to predict her confirmation path simply because this senate has not specifically confirmed her already (like some other potential nominees). I would be thrilled if she were nominated. That seems like a good problem to have, more than one person with stellar credentials who would be a great choice.

I was curious how Fox was going to talk about potential nominations so I looked on their website (probably a mistake) Here's one article www.foxnews.com/opinion/breyer-supreme-court-election-biden-republicansAfter criticizing Breyer for leaving for purely political reasons, Gregg Jarrett wrote this When the last three conservative-oriented justices were nominated by President Trump, many Republicans insisted that the central question should always be whether the candidate is competent and qualified. Thus, as long as those two conditions are met by Biden in his selection of Breyer’s replacement, Republican senators would be wise to abide by their own stated standards and not oppose the nominee. They should take the high road and decline to retaliate in kind.but he also wrote this When the last three conservative-oriented justices were nominated by President Trump, many Republicans insisted that the central question should always be whether the candidate is competent and qualified. They railed against Democrats during the contentious confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh, accusing them of blocking (and demonizing) a competent nominee with sterling credentials for purely partisan reasons. Republicans should not now do the same.
In an important election year, Democrats would love to weaponize a nomination battle for political gain. They will look for every opportunity to denigrate Republicans as racist and sexist, regardless of whether it is true.
In the age of identity politics, such smears can be a winning strategy at the ballot box. Sometimes the hypocrisy and re-writing of history on the part of Fox and Republicans is unbelievable.

Kavanaugh is a “competent nominee with sterling credentials?” The only SCJ to have to write a correction to his brief? Oh yeah he’s a quality judge. I feel like we live in bizarro land! I haven’t been able to stomach Fox News in months, I suppose there’s some comfort in knowing they never change.

Sen. Whitehouse has it right. There will be no easy nomination process here, no matter how moderate or benign or well-qualified the candidate. As long as Manchin and Sinema can be bought (and obviously they can) the Democrats will never have the votes they need.
Previous lower court and cabinet nominations don't really matter. They're all about the Supreme Court.

Thank heaven. At least Mitch won’t be able to steal this SC seat. Hell try. The Senate better get their ass in gear and get it fine before November because the GOP will throw anything they can at delaying it

As long as Manchin and Sinema can be bought (and obviously they can) the Democrats will never have the votes they need. Exactly. It costs $13MM to buy a Senator (avg. cost of a Senate race). Billionaires w/hundreds of billions between them can pool together and buy 51 Senators for less than a billion. And we'll keep getting what we've always got.

It pisses me right off, too. That damned Mitch McConnel, f*cking hypocrite that he is, let Trump shove through a new justice mere WEEKS before the election, when he wouldn't allow Obama to appoint a justice ten months before an election. Any Republican who supported that is also a hypocrite in my eyes. I swear, I will lose my sh!t if McConnell screws this up for Biden. I guess I should be prepared to lose my sh!t, because I just know he's going to. I can't stand hypocrites and double standards. That's one of the many reasons I left the Republican party a couple years ago.

Biden promised a Black female appointment to SCOTUS.. Right reaction could have been predicted.... Republicans, however, were triggered, raging about "quotas," "identity politics" and "affirmative action" and various racist comments couched in faux concern. *** Conservative Tomi Lahren was hammered for the claim that the job would go to an unqualified Black woman due to identity politics. However, there are highly qualified Black women to consider. The two main judges some speculate could be appointed are a state Supreme Court justice and a U.S. District Court judge. But as law professor Steve Vladeck pointed out, President Ronald Reagan promised to appoint the first woman to the Supreme Court when he was elected. Conservatives at the time celebrated it as a good move. Two others made a similar point, which you can see below: www.rawstory.com/supreme-court-conservative-freakout/

White men are the victims ... No chance to make progress... From the following 'Commentary' and a whole lot more!! Right-wing victimhood hits a new level of absurdity in response to Biden's promise of a Black woman on the Supreme CourtAmanda Marcotte, Salon Commentary January 27, 2022 Justice Stephen Breyer's upcoming retirement from the Supreme Court was reported late Wednesday morning, and by Wednesday night, Fox News and other right-wing outlets already had their narrative: President Joe Biden's new nominee is proof that a white man can't catch a break in the U.S. of A.*** Of the 115 justices that have sat on the Supreme Court, 0 have been Black women, but 107 of them have been white men. Nonetheless, GOP media swiftly circled around the claim that this nominee — whoever they may be — is proof that white men are the real victims of discrimination. One of those white men confirmed to the court — Justice Brett Kavanaugh — now is one of the most powerful people in the country. Still, he(kavanaugh) was held out as even further proof that white men are the most victimized of all victims.www.rawstory.com/right-wing-victimhood-hits-a-new-level-of-absurdity-in-response-to-biden-s-promise-of-a-black-woman-on-the-supreme-court/

I thought Georgetown Law was credible... Not so much.... Georgetown Law official deletes tweets saying Biden will pick 'lesser black woman' over better SCOTUS candidatesMatthew Chapman January 27, 2022 On Thursday, The Daily Beast reported that a newly appointed Georgetown Law School executive and former right-wing think tank director is in hot water after a pair of tweets disparaging President Joe Biden's pledge to appoint a Black woman to fill the Supreme Court seat of outgoing Justice Stephen Breyer. "Former Cato Institute director Ilya Shapiro, now executive director of Georgetown’s Center for the Constitution, wrote, 'Objectively best pick for Biden is Sri Srinivasan, who is solid prog and [very] smart. Even has identity politics benefit of being first Asian (Indian) American. But alas doesn’t fit into last intersectionality hierarchy so we’ll get lesser black woman. Thank heaven for small favors?'" reported Blake Montgomery. "In a second tweet, Shapiro added, 'Because Biden said he’s only consider [sic] black women for SCOTUS, his nominee will always have an asterisk attached. Fitting that the Court takes up affirmative action next term.'" According to the report, Shapiro has now deleted both tweets and called them "inartful," while Georgetown Law Dean William Treanor denounced the comments as "demeaning," "appalling," and "at odds with everything we stand for at Georgetown Law" in an email. Shapiro's attacks come as Republicans are attempting to pre-emptively paint Biden's nominee as a radical, even before Biden has chosen who he will nominate. Biden's commitment to appointing a Black Supreme Court justice is part of a broader project by his administration to diversify the federal bench — not just racially, but also naming lawyers from a variety of backgrounds underrepresented on the judiciary like legal aid, public defense, and civil rights. www.rawstory.com/jen-psaki-2656490277/

MSNBC just played a clip of Reagan making a statement that he would appoint a qualified woman to the SCOTUS... Not a direct quote..
And yes former stated when told to replace kavanaugh with Barrett.. he said no, I'm saving her for Ginsberg...

McConnell admitted if the Republicans controlled the Senate, be would block a Democratic President’s nomination AGAIN. Can you imagine if Democrats had not won both Georgia senate races? McConnell probably wouldn’t have hesitated to block a nomination with 3 years left in Biden’s term. Breyer wouldn’t have retired, so that possibility is purely hypothetical.
PBS had an interesting statistic about the Supreme Court. Since 1967, Republicans have appointed 15 Supreme Court Justices, Democrats only 4. Time for Democrats to stack the court.
