Oh well. I had a patient the other night, with COVID pneumonia, telling me he was anti-vax and only wants natural remedies. Then why the fuck you here getting antibiotics and steroids... But whatever. How frustrating! Why did he bother going to the hospital if he only wanted natural remedies? I don't know how health care workers do it. Thank you for all that you do!

I have to say that before the pandemic, I honestly had no idea how many stupid people there are. It’s really frightening. Same here. Before Trump and the covid pandemic, I thought most people were smart, good and would do what they could to help others. I don't believe that anymore. When you feel that way, think of all the people that are still willing to help those people. There are lots of decent people left in the world.

I know this is absolute conjecture, but do you think he ever reached a point where he went, “Oh, shit. Maybe I should have.” Or does he think, every step of the way, that he’s still going to get better? Or his family, since they didn’t “do vaccines.” Does this change anyone’s mind? His family will be like the 20 year old who died from Covid, dad said well at least he died a pure blood. I’m like this is a virus not fucking Harry Potter.

I have a friend who is a nurse at the hospital in Everett, WA where the first confirmed COVID patient in the US was treated. He worked in the COVID unit for nearly 2 years. He is an incredibly kind and compassionate person. He recently transferred to another unit because he got so tired of the abuse and accusations from non vaccinated patients and their family members. These awful, argumentative patients in the COVID wards are chasing away great people who genuinely care about their patients and want to provide the best care possible.

But whatever. Did he want some natural ivermectin? The anti-vax teacher at my school who gave covid to three other teachers right before Christmas got monoclonal antibodies for treatment. She and her husband also self-treated with everyone's favorite anti-parisitic. She is, of course, telling everyone that the ivermectin is what "cured" her.

My daughter is starting a deployment on Monday working at a hospital that is only dealing with Covid patients. She'll be there two months. She is glad that she can provide relief for the overwhelmed healthcare workers, but I worry about what it will be like for her.

It would be hard for me to not tell her to f off, but I'd be more likely to say my husband had a mild breakthrough case because his vaccine did its job. I didn't get Covid from him because my vaccine is doing its job.

ZeeMaybe we should tell them to skip the penicillin. We could give them natural moldy bread instead! It is better. It IS natural just for them!!

I’m sorry your dealing with difficult people at work. That sucks. I agree with you whole heartedly. Unfortunately that where I’m at at this point. “But, whatever” I have nothing else left. I really don’t. I’m spent. I’m empty. I swear life has become a bizarre farce of what it could/should be. Of all the issues going on in the world today, these preventable deaths are insane. Thousand upon thousands of people have problems that they don’t have solutions to but they get up and do what they can do, day in day out. And then there’s these people who have a simple, free, solution right in front of them and they won’t utilize it. And they die. All I’ve got left is “But, whatever” I can’t muster up anything else

One less republican vote. I’m fine with it. A Friend of mine, no vaccine, is in the hospital right now--not expected to recover--and I know she's a Democrat. So don't be SURE it's a republican.

Did he really think he was going to get natural remedies at the hospital? This is nuts. If he wants natural remedies, shouldn’t he stay home? You would think. But he obviously wasn't there for the "natural" remedies or he would have died at home of his natural pneumonia. Lucky for him he's going to be ok and doesn't need a natural ventilator. 🙄 Is it possible his medical ignorance extends to thinking “natural” means “regular?” It seems so many have been convinced that these new vaccines somehow fly in the face of [normal] [regular] [natural?] treatments or preventions. They contain alarming and hastily-concocted unknown ingredients (see the horrified “WE DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT’S IN IT!!” theme circulating). Speaking of natural, I’m surprised you don’t lose yourself in a bottle of wine on the daily.

I have reached a point I don't feel sad for the unvaccinated or their families (unless they are vaccination advocates who couldn't convince their unvaxed family members) I just feel angry at what they put the health care workers through. I am at the point I think if an unvaxxed Covid patient shows up at the hospital they should just be sent home with their "cold" to let nature take its course. Society (medical people in this case) shouldn't be forced to care more about your health than you do.

But if it was just about people who care for their health we wouldn't have most of the patients we do, who are non-compliant with their diet, exercise, medication, and lifestyle. I get what you are saying but the hospital is full of people who don't care about their health until it gets to be an inconvenience (can't breathe, can't walk, etc). I can't really fairly say that a non-vaxxer is not worth care while an alcoholic or non-compliant diabetic is. It's a slippery slope! That's why I just say, "but whatever". And while we've had some real jerks lately, we've had some really great ones too. One guy came out of his room and interrupted our shift change safety huddle to tell us we were the best bunch he'd ever encountered in the hospital. It's the little things. 🥰🥰🥰

I have to say that I find it interesting that only one of our local news stations has a story about LaMay's death on their website as far as I can tell. I'd guess that they feel that this guy used up his 15 minutes of fame back in October when he quit so publically.

KOMO used to be my favorite channel for news. Then Kathy passed, Dan retired, Steve Pool is gone. And they were bought out by Sinclair and stories started coming out about how they were pushing right-wing agenda ... more people leaving, etc. I don't follow KING or KIRO that closely, but I wonder as these media conglomerates consolidate if they aren't more and more becoming owned by right-wing billionaires who have an agenda to push?

ZeeThing is those people don't normally endanger my life. They don't make me sick or die. They don't endanger little kids who can't be vaccinated.

I wonder about that too. A teacher at my husband's school just lost her husband to Covid. Late 50s, approaching retirement, recently became a grandpa to twins, unvaccinated. It's really sad, but geez. It didn't have to be like this. Another local guy mid-50s has been in a Covid unit in a Twin Cities hospital for a few weeks. He's a nice guy. Kids are in high school. It is unlikely that he'll make it and if he does, what will his life be like? Not vaccinated. It would have cost our government about $25 to prevent his death or this ridiculously long hospital stay. I’ve been hearing that families left behind of the anti-vaxx crowd just blame doctors for not trying hard enough, or blame the liberals. It’s a cult. Yes, I've heard the same. Nutballs.

Whether they endanger your life or not was not the point, it was that we (healthcare) shouldn't be in the position of deciding that certain people don't deserve care for their poor choices. The hospital is full of people who continually make poor choices and selfishly use up resources.

You are right, but the unvaccinated should not be there if they do not want proper care. They use up far more resources enmass.

It is HARD to not eat the heavy carbs or drinks associated with celebrations, parties or feeling good. So I can have some compassion for what they are feeling. And our hospitals aren't so over run with diabetics/alcohols that no one else can get the care they need. I can't fathom the thought process of refusing a covid vaccination in such a mass they are willing to overrun hospitals to the point other people's medical needs are going unmet and other people are getting sick because they won't get vaccinated. The stories about covid patients don't move me. They stories about people needing to be hospitalized but are turned away because there is no room for them does break my heart.

The stories about covid patients don't move me. They stories about people needing to be hospitalized but are turned away because there is no room for them does break my heart. I don't complain about being overrun with non-compliant diabetics, alcoholics with liver disease and ascites, people who don't take their diuretics or abide by fluid restrictions so they have CHF exacerbations, people with kidney disease who won't follow a proper diet, IV drug addicts who develop sepsis from dirty needles, or any of those things that could avoid multiple hospitalizations every year thus leaving room for people with emergencies, heart attacks, and pneumonia (or whatever is deemed worthy). I don't understand what's hard to understand about my point that we can't decide one group of people shouldn't be treated. You can have your personal feelings about it, but I don't have the luxury of not wanting to clean up the incontinent 536 lb woman who's screaming at us that we're hurting her because it takes at least 4 of us to turn her. And that's becoming less and less rare in this country, that people are so obese they no longer can (or are willing to) properly care for themselves. I don't want to get sandwiches all night for the asshole meth user who fried his heart and has no intention of paying his bill. I don't want to check blood sugars every hour on the diabetic nerd who brought a secret stash of Little Debbies and pretends not to know why his blood sugar is 450 and blames it on me for "not giving me enough insulin". Cleaning up the weeping edema and leg ulcers of the CHF down the hall who had his brother bring him a huge bag of Wendy's straight to his room, thus filling himself with sodium again, continuing to retain fluid, and bitching that his legs hurt. It goes on and on. I don't mind turning and cleaning up 98 year old meemaw. I do mind turning and cleaning up 500 lb 46 year olds. But, I don't (and shouldn't) get to decide that one of them shouldn't be cared for. That's my only point, that it's a slippery slope. ETA OK, I do in fact complain about them 😆😆 I'm sorry but GODDAMMIT

Zee - thank you - thank you for treating those who aren't able/willing to do what's best for their health, thank you for treating all patients, worthy or otherwise. Thank you for showing up and doing your job -even when it's thankless. I am sorry for the state trooper and his family - I'm sorry that he bought into the false information being spread about covid and that cost him his life and his family their loved one. I would never wish death on anyone - no matter how unreasonable or horrible they might be. I do hope that the deaths of the publicly anti-vaxers help convince some to be vaccinated.
