FritoLay headquarters is local and they’ve been sparse here for weeks. Friends have been commenting. I hadn’t noticed since we’re more of a tortilla chip family.
I made chili today and am craving frito chili pie for the first time in years. Gotta the power of suggestion

I was looking for Fritos right before Christmas and couldn't find them anywhere.

I have been looking for them since before Christmas - needed them for a recipe for something I was taking to a Christmas get-together.
I couldn't find them anywhere and still can't. Once in a while, I will find a few bags of Frito Twist, Honey BBQ, but I just needed plain Fritos. I ended up making something else since I couldn't locate Fritos anywhere.

The Frito shortage has been here for a few months now. For those in Texas, the HEB brand is good according to DH (I am not a Frito fan). Frito Scoops and Frito Bar-B-Q flavor have been available for most of that time. Last week I was able to get a couple of smaller bags of regular Fritos at my HEB. DH will just have to make those last for now. Frozen potatoes - of any brand - have been hit or miss for me. I posted a photo a couple of weeks ago of a totally empty frozen potato section (5 complete sections!). The next week the same section was maybe 20% filled. Then empty again the following week. Grab them when you see them seems to be the lesson here. And this is why I ordered the crap DH wants to eat for the Super Bowl with our last grocery order. I thought I’d try and get the brands he likes at first and then settle for whatever they have the last week or two. DP, Tostitos Scoops (HEB in SA area), bacon and little smokies, frozen pizza, egg rolls and taquitos. It was almost a $400 order, a good 2/3rds of it was fresh produce and proteins. And we did not have a single substitution, I was amazed. Got the sweet potato fries we wanted too. We had Fritos in one of those variety bags at the end of the year. If you have a craving maybe try that.

Costco had Fritos in the biggest size bag. I didn’t get any because I had already bought a “party size” bag at Target about a week and a half ago (and which is definitely NOT a party size unless it’s only a party of 2-3 people, LOL). DH says they taste better than regular corn chips. Frozen potato products of pretty much every variety have been in short supply here in virtually every store for at least the last 4-6 months. Hash browns are especially hard to find. I finally found Tater Tots at business Costco several months ago in a huge 8 lb bag after not finding them anywhere in forever. And yes, I bought two bags of them. It’s so weird the random assortment of stuff that I’m noticing is out of stock in various places. I’m going to Costco this week hopefully they have some!

I just saw them at giant eagle yesterday in Columbus so if you have to come south soon that’s an option.
Target has them here too. I haven’t been to Costco in a couple weeks so not sure about them.

All Fritos in stock here (East Coast)...I had to talk myself out of buying them as I've been gaining weight since January 1, not losing it.

So Cal here, plenty of all Fritos/Lays and frozen potatoes at all my stores.
What a strange thing to be out of stock on, and right before Super Bowl!

I don't know if there is a shortage around here or not as I rarely buy them. I find them too salty, so like them in small amounts. I do buy them for DS when I make taco meat. He likes them for that, a grade-school fave (walking tacos) that stuck with him. LOL I bought an off brand within the last week or two when I made tacos. Kwik Trip's brand. Surprisingly, DS liked them a lot. I actually tried them and liked them better. Tasted more like the corn part, less like the salt and a nice crunch. Long winded way of asking, have you tried (or saw) any off-brand? Might want to give it a try. Or are you a Fritos loyalist?

I’ve read this: It’s a huge shortage with Frito lay and Dr Pepper. Covid, employees, and stock shortages. It blows
We are local to their plant.

No Fritos or Saltine Crackers could be found at my store today. We’ve seen plenty of Saltines, but have a really hard time finding the wheat version.

I work in food manufacturing. We are having issues getting so many different raw materials, mainly due to transportation (not enough rail cars in the right places, not enough truckers to drive loads) but also due to Covid-related absences at some of our suppliers. We have one supplier who is only at 50% production for the foreseeable future due to not having enough employees to run at 100%. Many are out for Covid (which is the reason they gave us) but I suspect they also are losing employees to other companies. The competition for employees is vicious right now - companies are upping pay in order to attract employees, almost like a bidding war. I suspect we'll continue to see shortages of various types of food for the next several months.

We had curbside grocery shopping today so I ordered frozen fries to see what would happen. They substituted the regular for crinkle, which is fine, though I always check “no substitutions.” But I did notice quite a few varieties were sold out.
It looked like they have plenty of Fritos, which are on sale, but since I didn’t order any can’t be sure. Sometimes inventory hasn’t caught up and items are really out of stock.

Fritos

I went to the grocery store this morning. It doesn’t help that we are under a warning and may possibly get anywhere from 3 to 12 inches of snow. People around here always go bad shit crazy whenever they say it’s going to snow and it affects the groceries but still…..
There were a lot of “no” and “almost no”. Lots and lots of empty shelves. Absolutely no frozen potatoes of any kind. Absolutely no frozen chicken. Almost no eggs, milk, sour cream, yogurt. I bought the very last of the Activa yogurt. While there were lots of potato chips and taco chips, but there were No Fritos corn chips. There where no wheat thins and I picked up one of the last boxes of Cheezits. I also bought the last whole chicken.
I finally found caffeine free diet Coke. But there were only 5 of the 8 packs of the small bottles. I bought three of them because they were three for $13. The best looking aisles were bread, produce and cheese. Otherwise as you walked up and down the aisles there were big empty spaces for a heck of a lot of the canned goods. The one that really struck me odd was ketchup. There was almost absolutely no ketchup. I bought a super expensive bottle of organic Heinz ketchup because I was almost out. Otherwise I would’ve just let it pass.
The frozen food aisles are in really bad shape. There were almost no frozen vegetables along with the missing frozen chicken. Ice cream was down to only a few random flavors. A lot of the frozen pasta entrées and frozen pizzas were pretty low in stock.
I am beginning to really dislike going to the grocery store. I make a list with meal plans in mind and end up having to switch gears. It takes me twice as long to go anymore.

I just got back from the store.
Still no frozen potatoes. No cream cheese. No caffeine-free Diet Coke in cans - I haven’t seen it in cans locally for a month now - just some packs of the mini-bottles. A lot of empty spaces on shelves and signs taped up around the store saying “We are experiencing food supply shortages.” (No kidding)
We did have Fritos of all kinds, including Scoops. I looked just because of this thread. However, Fritos are not on my Weight Watchers plan 😜, so I left them for other people.

I bought Fritos Friday, but they only had original. I wanted the scoops. The Frito section was sparse. I shop at a commissary.

I haven't had a hard time with Fritos, but I have found the stock of Sunchips to be sparse. I'm crazy about the Garden Salsa variety and those are especially hard to come by. The potato shortage has definitely been going on since Christmas and maybe longer. We do funeral potatoes for our main Christmas meal. I couldn't find shredded hash browns -- either frozen or in the refrigerated "Simply Potatoes" brand -- anywhere. I ended up unearthing a bag in my freezer, so I saved Christmas, but it's crazy. I almost started to think about the possibility of grating my own potatoes to be able to make the casserole.

I just bought frozen fries to test out the air fryer function on our new microwave. There were plenty here. I didn’t look for Fritos. I couldn’t find any gumdrops for DH this week at four different stores. They’re his favorite candy. Let me know how you like your new microwave. We are gutting our kitchen (that doesn't even have a microwave) and I need to buy one. Love to know how your air fryer function works. Thanks! So I've used it for a few days now. It works great as a microwave (Panasonic countertop 4-in-one). It also works great as a convection oven. I've never used an air fryer before -- it doesn't seem much different than the convection oven other than putting the food in a basket. The fries weren't very good, probably because they were frozen french fries? I don't usually buy them, but had a hankering. Perdue chicken patties came out great, but they also used to come out great in my toaster oven's convection oven. I am a little worried that the air frying will make it difficult to clean up the interior of the microwave. So that's my review!
