What a long exhausting day with nothing to show for it.
I feel ya, yesterday Costco ugh, nothing went right. But "thank goodness" they had 6 cooler cases of pies. I just wanted a salad and some salmon. The very thought kept me going all day but noooooo, gotta make sure their was enough room for the pies. Dont forget, the additional 3 cooler cases that were empty. The employees admitted it was for the turkeys they did not have and were not going to get.
In the meantime the employees were try to stock the non holiday items in the 2 cases they had squeezed everything into. Most of it didn't even make it to the coolers they were taking straight off the racks and pallets before they could even stock them.
White castle burgers, it wasn't an awful meal but i really wanted salmon. Thank you walmart for being there for me.

My favorite receipt-checker guy is always really personable. He usually pats your arm and tries to engage you in a brief conversation during that few seconds of basket checking time. It's nice. He's everyone's favorite. I am sorry to hijack the tree thread but OMG, I would hate that. I do not want to be touched by strangers. In fact, I hate it so much that I would complain about it. Also, stop talking and check the dang receipt already.

Another thing I'm wondering. If providing twine to customers is not something they normally do, then why do they have a metal box, mounted on the wall, in the pickup area, with a big blue arrow pointing down to the box with these words...."Twine here". Well it sounds like it is normally something they do, they just ran out - I believe that's what they told you? Maybe a lot of people bought Christmas trees and tried to fit them in their sedan today. For me personally, the thought of the store providing it probably wouldn't even cross my mind. I certainly wouldn't have expected it. I'd probably just take the tree parts out and put them in my car. Untape the box, flatten it and put it in the trunk. Buy a roll of packing tape, and tape it back up when you get home if you would like to keep the box. But I'm sorry you're now 90 minutes away and treeless. Yesterday Target had their trees 50% off online. Perhaps check there and have it shipped to your house?

I failed to mention that I asked if I could buy some twine from stock on their shelves.........they didn't have any. I live an hour and a half from the store so there was no way I could have made it back today to pick up the tree because of the distance and because I would have had to borrow a truck. Also, if my story is "that" amusing/interesting/divisive, by all means rename this thread "TreeGate", I don't have a problem with that. Finally, I need to ask, are my paragraphs okay? P.S. I wonder why the manager didn't mention bungee cords to me? What are you talking about? You didn't edit your OP and this post I'm quoting is just one paragraph. Skip the unnecessary ....................... and just start using paragraphs.

LOL You don't pull the car around to the front, you have no bungees, you have no idea what zip ties are, you are driving a small vehicle but think you can fit a big ass tree and its box in it. And you think that anyone but you might be the problem? LOL

You already had doubts it would fit. That's not their problem. Borrow a larger vehicle or purchase a smaller tree.

I'm sorry you had to wait so long only to find out the tree wouldn't fit. Unfortunately stores seem just as under staffed as we are in the office. It is always do more with less. I hope you are able to find a way to get the tree home.
I think if a store expects to sell larger items then they should be prepared to go the mile and have twine. It may be expecting too much but just my opinion. That's also not saying that I wouldn't bring my own....just in case.

Look retail is in the busiest time right now. I'm sure they didn't run out of twine on purpose. Shit happens. This really is small peanuts and not something to get pissed at.

Reading this thread makes me happy we have a truck ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) . I'm sorry you didn't get your tree. If I had driven that far there is no way I would leave without my tree! I guess I would have taken it out of the box and put it in the car in pieces.

Oh FFS! ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Ui47LhQw2NqWVWNNqtfM.jpg) Seriously? Obviously, they provide twine since they TOLD you that they do (and that they were out), and because you did somehow manage to find the metal box and the "Twine here" sign. It's already been pointed out to you numerous times, but they really don't have to provide you twine or anything else to load your purchases. They have never pretended to be a full-on customer pampering and hand-holding kind of store. They're a warehouse store. Bare minimum facilities, discount prices, etc. You're freaking lucky they're even considerate enough to supply twine when they can keep it around. This is the Walmart corp. we're talking about. Did it even cross your mind that you are not the only person shopping for trees and other large things during the busiest shopping time of the year and that Sam's and their employees do have other things to do than anticipate your every entitled need and whim? Of course it didn't.

Sam's doesn't really use that clear twisted cord stuff. They use rolls od shrink wrap exclusively. Having a way to secure the trunk lid seems like a prerequisite. We have both bungee cords and thin rope on our car at all times. Sam's also have loading areas in front of the store for large items. Lesson learned I guess.

We keep bungee cords in our vehicles for such a thing. Sams Club probably SELLS bungee cords. I wouldn't expect a warehouse club to keep twine around but would probably expect a lumber yard or hardware store to have some for customers.
Considering how busy they are the day before Thanksgiving, I'd say you were lucky to get two employees to help you and stay with your car.
I couldn't read everything, just skimmed, it was hard to read.

Wow what I learned from reading this thread- Don't vent here!!! ![:deadhorse:](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/0QW78KiDyjCOWvDh89PK.jpg) Meh as someone working retail during the holidays including tonight I just wish people would not freak about things like this. It is not something to get mad at the store over. We all need to prepare for ourselves. Not expect others to do so. It's hard enough just getting through the day with the demanding customers. To add this in is just nuts.

Ditto. It's great that peas have advice and tips on how this could have been avoided. But, when it gets to three pages of the everyone piling on the OP, it starts to get a little "mean girl".
And yes...working retail this time of the year is very rough, so is shopping retail this time of the year.
OP - Sorry you were not able to get your tree.

To add this in is just nuts. I actually agree 100% with you on this! I so don't miss working this time of year. I feel for you. I would have made other arrangments to pick it up etc. I would expect places like Home Depot or other retail store to have some kind of twine but also keep in mind Costco and Sams carry mostly large bulk items. Even their furniture is HUGE. I usually plan ahead if I know we are getting something gigantic. Even at IKEA. We have a fairly large back with the Pathfinder but the IKEA bookshelf wouldn't fit. It was just a little too wide. We couldn't tie to the roof so we just made arrangements to pick it up. I would have been frustrated with the situation if I wasn't prepared but I certainly would not but upset with the Sams.

But she said she had an "awful experience".....................lol and the peas said it's not Sam's fault.

Paragraphs have spaces between them. No they don't. Oh in some formatting they do. But when I went to school and university the only indication of a new paragraph was indenting the first line. No spaces.

I drive a car the size of a small country, and every once in a while I buy something that I can't fit in no matter what I do. I stand around staring at the offending purchase and then start making pitiful noises until I remember that I can lay the third row seat down. Of course it takes me a while to remember how, but eventually it happens. I am glad that you were able to get a better tree... that makes the day all the better. ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/TKS2q_7siLiFtq0xPQvx.jpg)

In such a litigious society I can certainly understand their policy. So, many people think that suing is a fab-o way to win the lottery. However, I also think that the guy leaning up against your car was unprofessional and the 4 inch stuff was a joke. They never should have made you wait so long for help that wasn't, either. So, in this instance I'd say it was 1/2 your fault for expecting them to have twine which could cost them in the long run if they even remotely help you and 1/2 theirs, for the unprofessional customer service, making you wait so long for nothing. Do they have a sign posted that let's customers know that their policy is that they don't help load or unload vehicles? If not, they should have told you at the register. What a drag.
Costco has artificial trees online, on sale and they'll deliver to your house.
