I'm a very competent driver. Heavy traffic, long drives, bad weather, or other adverse conditions don't really bother me -- they are just a factor to be dealt with. I drive with a very heightened awareness of what's going on around me. And I can parallel park with the best of them.
My husband is equally competent and I fully relax in the car with him. With my friends, I generally am always the one asked to drive. Especially if it's a lengthy trip.
My ex was a terrible driver. It was super stressful to be in the car with him driving.

I think that I do alright at driving, but definitely not that I am the best that I know. I would say that Dh and I are about par on driving ability, though I drive most of the time when we are together.

I definitely do not think I am the best driver because I know I have limitations and fears----I can't drive in the dark and I am afraid of driving on ice, despite having lived in a cold winter area my entire life. And because I know I am human. Anyone can make a mistake, and mistakes can be very dangerous on the road. However, I absolutely think I am a safer and more conscientious driver than many others. Although others would disagree, I'm sure. If I'm driving 39 in a 30 zone, I feel I'm being safe, but the guy tailing me probably thinks I'm being a jerk and ruining his life.

Boy, I can relate to what a lot of you have shared. The good….and *some* of the bad 😆
I will say that I generally don’t enjoy driving much. I have a friend who loves getting in the car and taking off. Her idea of a good day is getting in the car at 9am on a weekend day and taking off for a beach, mountain or other scenic place about 4 hours away. Stopping a couple of times along the way for places/things of interest. Spend a couple hours at the destination. Then turning around and driving 4 hours home. That’s just too much car-sitting for me in a day if I’m not road-tripping. But she loves it 🤷🏼♀️

I'm a good driver - as long as I'm going forward. Backing up has always been an issue. Our first expat assignment I drove a big diesel SUV (my first one). There were a few people who had to be directed to DH's office with a repair estimate for reimbursement. People learned quickly not to park behind me. The funniest was when he wanted to know how I bent the rear bumper. Told him I hit a bush, and pointed out the leaves hanging on the bumper as proof. He demanded to see the bush that could bend a steel bumper, so I took him to the next door compound. Turned out there was a concrete wall behind said bush. Who knew? If only they had invented backup cameras back in the 80s.

I cannot sufficiently parallel park in the required amount of maneuvers, nor can I ever seem to accurately gauge just how close or how far... my vehicle needs to be to press someones gate code on the key pad, without having to lean out the window or open the car door or have the tire rub the curb.......therefore that disqualifies me from being classified as "great".

Hahahaha no. I am a pretty typical Houston driver, which is probably not good (though I would argue I'm efficient and generally not in your way). But I absolutely cannot carry on a conversation while I'm driving - I will miss my turn/exit/lane change every time. Pretty much the same, I pretty much can stay in my lane and not cause accidents, and no one by has taken a shot at me in a fit of road rage, so by Houston standards, does that make me a really good driver, ?

My sister refuses to use cruise at all. The more she talks the slower she goes. We went to TX on vacation a couple of years ago. I finally told her she had to shut up or use cruise control.

I have never liked driving. I have never felt comfortable driving. I take the enormous responsibility very seriously, and obey all laws, but no, I’m not the best driver.

Yes, I have that problem, too. But I'll definitely use cruise control on long trips.

I am a pretty good driver, not the best and not the worst. I am becoming less confident on bad roads at night. I was a wreck driving home from my parent's recently. I felt better when my brother texted me about how bad the roads were. It wasn't just me.
My BFF is a great driver.
The late comedian George Carlin did a great bit about how anyone going slower than you is an idiot and anyone going faster than you is a maniac. So true!
