New York State mask mandates, according to the news this morning, are going to be dropped with the exception of schools. Our numbers across the state are extremely low so this is a good thing in my eyes.
well I choose to wear a mask in some situations? Absolutely. But now it will be my choice.

That's great news! I'm hoping we'll be in the same situation here in Massachusetts. We don't have a statewide mask mandate, but the numbers have been so high that many cities and towns have them in place currently. I hope that by the end of the month, we'll be clear of the omicron variant for the most part.

The state won't mandate but it will still be up to the individual establishments, no?
So not totally up to people as individuals unless you/they don't enter other's facilities.

Really looking forward to not having to pretend to wear my mask at my desk in my office that no one sits less than 12-20 feet away from me.

I fully expect my county to drop it on the 21st. Maryland has really low case numbers.

I agree with mask mandates when the numbers call for it. With case numbers going down in most places, I agree with dropping the mandates when they hit a certain point.
Several schools around us still have mask mandates in place. Most of them have said they're in place through the end of the month. I think one is dropping theirs next week and going to encouraged but optional.
DH and I will continue to wear them in stores until our county numbers are lower. DH will wear his at any in person meeting for now.

California is doing the same but some counties, like LA, are keeping them until at least April.
There is also talks about the mask mandate for schools. Ugh. Not ready for that one to go quite yet.

CA mask mandate expires next week - so we are all waiting to see what the counties decide.

Our mask mandate ended June 2021, but I still wear a mask. People in our area are pretty anti vax and anti mask. So I don't feel comfortable around here. I have been vaccinated and boosted, so I know my chance of getting covid is very low. But I can't afford to get covid now, so not taking my chances. I have a disabled German Shepherd and her care is very demanding. So my family will continue to wear masks and avoid crowds. I am so used to it having worn masks for almost two years that it would feel so odd to me not to wear one! I wonder if the numbers are dropping so much because so many have the at home tests now? They wouldn't get reported, so if someone tests positive, only they would know.

I agree about home tests, but things are better.

All Bay Area counties except 1 just announced they will align with state and drop mask mandate next week. I personally am happy about that.

There is also talks about the mask mandate for schools. Ugh. Not ready for that one to go quite yet. I feel the same. Cases have dropped across our district in comparison to last month at this time, but for whatever reason, my one son's school has a significantly higher number of cases than of the other district schools. So while it's still like that, I like knowing the kids are at least wearing masks.

Maryland doesn't have a mask mandate, do we? I thought it's been a county thing. My county, Frederick, has a mandate, but Washington County doesn't. We have Washington people who drive here to shop because they feel more comfortable, but there are also Frederick County people driving to Washington County crying "Freedom!" William Wallace style (whatever dudes).
I think I'll let time tell even though our numbers are going down. I worry the prevalence of home testing might means our actual numbers may be underreported. Hospitalization is going down though. I have decided that from now on, I will be masking in medical offices and mass transit regardless. I have no desire to ever bring home a vacation cold again because Gladys in the window seat coughed up a lung directly onto my tray table.

I just wish the numbers were going down because the anti vaxxers were finally getting vaccinated. Our local school district will not mandate the vaccine because of all the anti vaxxer/covid is just a cold parents. So happy that my kids are at vaccine mandated colleges.
