Welcome to the weekend everyone! We're nearing the halfway mark of our annual 28-4-28 month of challenges. How is everyone going? Valentines Day is approaching, and this week I have chosen some sketches that feature hearts. These first two sketches are actually free templates from Fiddle-Dee-Dee at The Lilypad:
And this is a sketch that I did based on a layout I found somewhere on-line a while ago. If I can find the original layout I will come back and link it here. I am running a bit behind this week, so I only have one layout to share so far. I will get the others done shortly. I have a couple of twists for you to choose from this week. You only have to choose one to meet the twist: 1. The twist is to use non-traditional colours. For example, if you are doing a Valentines type layout, use colours other than red and pink. If you are doing a Christmas layout, use colours other than red and green etc etc. OR 2. Use at least three colours of mixed media. For those of you who are in a team, you can earn FIVE points for meeting this challenge, and an additional TWO POINT BONUS for also meeting the twist on this same project. If you can complete ALL of the 28-4-28 challenges by the end of this quarter, you can earn a BONUS of 280 points.

Here is my page for the first sketch/template. I removed some of the background hearts so all of the background elements flow down the page diagonally, and made the photo slightly bigger.

AussieMeg, I love all of these sketches! I will leave love in the gallery for your beautiful pages. I used the first sketch and used a cut file with hearts joined. I used pink, blue, and purple Oxide inks on the flowers and hearts and sprayed gold Color Shine on the background. Big Hugs

nylene, that LO is amazing! It captures such joy and all your elements, from the heart cut file to the delicate flowers are just perfect. AussieMeg, what fun way to capture Mother's day, and in such a cool and upbeat color scheme-the way the hearts flow really draws your eye to the photo!

nylene So gorgeous, such pretty colors picking up on the photo. I love your heart overlay, wow and all your flower touches. Handsome man and adorable girl. Your page has it all justjac what a sweet dreamy sentimental page. It lends itself so well to all those hearts. Just lovely. AussieMeg thanks so much for the sketch challenge. I LOVE the single page and I love your take on it. I like how you edited out the upper right to sweep the eye. Well, I liked the sketch so so much I went super, super literal as you can see. It took a lot of time but it was: watch the Superbowl, change to figure skating, check back on the Superbowl and glue flower layers together all at the same time.

Your sketches are really helping my mojo AussieMeg ! This is the 2nd sketch. I hand cut layered hearts, but then ended up fanning them out and eliminating a few of them. I coloured them with copics. The rest of the sketch I kept fairly true to the sketch, including the splatter (I used metallic watercolours. LOVE THEM. "Magicfly" brand from Amazon if anyone is looking for reasonably priced metalic watercolours that show up fab on black) So I covered your mixed media twist in 2 ways. The title and journaling are an homage to the SNL skit "weekend update". layout weekend update by kirstendrew, on Flickr

Oh baby! Arthur by scrappy rabbit, on Flickr Even though when we adopted Arthur, his estimated age was 11-12 months old, he looks like SUCH a baby here! Thanks for the sketch! I also want to do the third sketch you provided.

Love the elegant colours and placement, jjpeapea. Left love for the others on Flickr.
Here ya go, AussieMeg. Of course mine is the messiest one. Got carried away with all the ink splattering and hearts. But it is finished! This is my February page for next year's family calendar. February 23 by Gramma Dee, on Flickr For the twist, I have some red on it, so decided to go for the four colours of mixed media--blue, yellow, orange, red, and green--not htat you can see much of it once I slapped on all the hearts LOL.
