I am thinking about reorganizing my pit. Can the IKEA cubes handle the weight of lots of 12x12 paper? Heather

Mine have held up well. I use them for albums, my paper, supplies and have desks attached to work on. No issues!

Yes! I have a 4(across) x 3(high) unit. The center four shelves are packed with 12x12 paper, as are two of the top shelves. The Kallax unit is solid; there is no buckling at all.

I have 2across 4 high units and they hold albums - full 3 ring albums - no issues at all.
I think they say they can hold about 30lbs/cube

I have a five across and the top five cubes are all cardstock and patterned paper (stored vertically in Paper Holders).

I've had a 4x4 unit for 15ish years and it's held up well...but I have to be honest, ever since researching the weight limit and coming across a Reddit thread with a picture of the "guts" of the Kallax cube (inserted below), I've been wanting to replace it. I have a lot, A LOT of paper and living in California, I worry about earthquakes. So my two cents is that I've never heard a bad story about one breaking, but if I could do it all over, I'd get something a lot more solid for my peace of mind.

I have a 4x4 with 8 cubes filled with paper. I’m still amazed the thing hasn’t crashed thru to the floor below! So yes they hold a lot of paper. That being said, I did weigh the paper & paper holders before putting them in the cubes. I keep each cube a minimum of 5 lbs under weight bearing limit. I’m most careful storing dies in the cubes as they’re heavier. I’m also careful to distribute the weight equally within the cube. I also distribute the weight evenly throughout the unit. 10 years and no problems.

I had them for years and mine did buckle, but they were not flush on the floor, they had 6 legs or short feet under them. I switched to the Threshold cubes from Target and much prefer them. They come in prettier colors (I have the grey wood grain) and I think they are sturdier. I think they are the same price too.

I have 4 of the 4 cube Kallax and 1 of the 8 cube Kallax. In all of my cubes, I oriented them so that the paper was sitting on the solid piece of wood rather than on the "spacer" piece...if that makes sense. In my mind that made it sturdier.

Mine have held up well. I use them for albums, my paper, supplies and have desks attached to work on. No issues! I have a 5 x5 Kallax and it holds 48 12x12 albums plus paper and card stock. I have had no problems at all with it. Easy to store everything and easy access.

I put my paper on the bottom or second to the bottom rows and I haven't had any problems yet. I have the Expedit version from years ago. I think I got it 10-ish years ago?
