It’s for a rough draft for a research paper. (Not mine). Years 60’s to 70’s.
So far I found a basketball game from the Mastradons in 1977.
I’m noticing it’s easier to find men’s sports. Maybe that can be added to the paper too that there’s an imbalance.
Song coming through “you’d better be good to me”
Thanks for any help. I’m not writing the paper myself, just helping out.

Have you tried looking up the Olympics during those years? I just had a glance through the Wikipedia for the 1970 games in Rome, and thought this bullet point was interest8ng: - The future Queen Sofía of Spain represented her native Greece in sailing events.
Or is the paper only about American sportswomen?

Thank you, that is interesting. I’m writing that down. I think it’s nation wide. I’ll see if I can find more in olympics, that’s a great idea.

Maybe your "friend" needs to do their own homework.

I think her paper should be on how women's sports were neglected back then. My sister in law set her high school's scoring record in basketball - more than the boys even. But no one kept "official" statistics. My father in law kept them. She was finally acknowledged and put in her high school's athletic hall of fame a few years ago.

I would focus on the law that is Title 9. The fight for equal representation in schools.

I think Billie Jean King has done more to advance women’s sports than anyone. During the 60s-70s she was at the top of her game and also fighting for the passage of Title 9.

I followed winter sports in the 60's, 70's, it was sometimes a challenge to have the media focus on anything but their looks..
when I was a kid in the 1960's, there were few organized youth sports for girls.. no soccer, no softball, no martial arts, we were on swim team at the local pool. even running was not a thing you saw much at all.

I know in the mid 70's I played on a boys baseball team but had to switch to girls softball at 12 because girls weren't allowed on boys teams after 12. Their loss I was an excellent pitcher and I think they only won 3 games the next year. Funny ntsf I joined the swim team when I found didn't like softball.

I would focus on the law that is Title 9. The fight for equal representation in schools. This. Title 9 was passed in 1972, and it was a game-changer (see what I did there?) for women's sports. It took a few years for the results to show, but there was eventually a big increase in sport opportunities for women at the high-school and collegiate level. Once that happened, opportunities outside of schools also increased. How Title 9 Transformed Women's Sports

That’s a broad question. Are you saying the only thing you found is one basketball game? The tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs was in the 70s. Shirley Muldowney won NHRA Top Fuel championship in the 70s Agree with the above about the Olympics. My sisters played Little League softball. This link has a plethora of info: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_women%27s_sports

Black woman, Wilma Rudolph ran track after she recovered from polio and was an Olympian in 1956? And 1960.
