It isn’t and shouldn’t be the teachers’ job to fight this 🤷🏻♀️ Parents and members of the community concerned about public education need to take up the cause. On this very board you’ve said you will never vote for a Democrat so you’ve made it crystal clear which side of the “cause” you are on. Don’t try to wrap your turd in a “supportive” message.

Right now, that’s not CRT or public education. The fact that I’m voting based on a different issue doesn’t mean anything about my beliefs on this issue.

"It doesn’t emphasise abstinence". My mouth literally fell open. You know, it's always the young girl's job to make sure she isn't luring her pedophile gym teacher into sin by, you know, existing. This is EXACTLY what my DS said when I told him about it.

At a time when it's more important than ever to talk to kids about race. The United States currently has a sitting black, bi-racial Vice President, and recently had two terms of a black, bi-racial President. And NOW it's more important than ever to talk to kids about race? Because you're going to point out to them how the US has gone from enslaving people with dark skin color to sitting them on the seats of power? No. It's because you want to tell them how bad they should feel if their skin is pale. There are quite a number of parents who see things differently than you do. And some of them, both people of color and colorless? people, think this compulsive attention to race is not helping people blend together at all. Nothing proclaims UNITY! like finding more ways to divide kids.

My skin is very pale. Learning some of the atrocities that my ancestors committed in the 160Os forward make me understand I have a responsibility to do much much better and be sure that my grandkids do better too! It makes me sad, but makes me better.
Teaching is important, but watch a bunch of little kids play, get along on their own is a joy. Too bad they learn cruelty to others as they get older. Shame on us as the adults!!

It SHOULD make them feel bad. It should make EVERYONE feel bad. But learning about it is important so those atrocities are not repeated. But, I’m thinking you’re just fine with it if they are. Careful. Your hood is showing.

Have you not heard “those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it?” Systematic racism is real and you are proving that with your post. Shame on you. You are exactly the reason it is imperative that CRT be taught in schools.

Feeling bad about something is not guilt - it’s justified anger in the face of injustice and empathy.
All things I felt when I learned about the Holocaust and other genocides, the horrible massacres and treatment of first Australians, the hunting to extinction of many animal species, and many other things I’ve learned about over the years as both a child and adult that have been hard to learn about.
Empathy and justified anger in the face of injustice are good things, they lead to change. That seems what they’re most afraid of.

The inability to see the difference between “I should feel personally guilty about this” and “I should be horrified that this happened and work to make sure it doesn’t happen again” just boggles the mind.

it’s justified anger in the face of injustice and empathy. Something too many on the right don't seem to care about. It's all me, me, me, mine, mine, mine. Oh, and don't make me feel bad about stuff that my ancestors did even though I STILL PROFIT from it.

John Oliver absolutely nails it. Must watch, even if only the first minute for his takedown of teaching the recorder in school and Ted Cruz. 😂😂😂 youtu.be/EICp1vGlh_U

"“I don’t think there is a tip line set up for Black parents when our children’s feelings are hurt or they are harassed, or they are bullied about the texture of their hair or the color of their skin, the size of their nose, the size of their lips or where they live.”" I could kiss her. The humiliation wrought upon black students since the formation of public education... And the little white snowflakes are worried that their kids might learn actual history. They can f#*$(# right on off w/that.

I don’t know anymore how many times I’ve posted this.
Critical Race Theory is a compendium of law journals. CRT is not about white people being natural oppressors and black people being natural victims. As far as I know, CRT is not being taught in K-12 schools. K-12 children do not have the requisite level of thinking and maturity necessary to properly comprehend what it truly is and ascertain the validity of its principles.
If there are schools teaching white and black students that, by virtue of their skin color, they fit into this bifurcation of oppressors and victims, then yes, as a parent you need to object and put a stop to it. But, if all that’s being taught is the true history of the country (which includes its history of racism), then that’s not CRT. That’s just history.

Some legislators have re-defined CRT as any teaching that might make a white student feel uncomfortable, or that mentions modern forms of racism at all. Some go so far as to say that parents should be concerned about any mention of equity, culturally sensitive teaching, inclusion, implicit bias, etc. - basically anything that implies or states that individual and institutional racism still exist in this country. In the tweet I linked above, the speaker is talking about a "hotline" that's been set up for white parents to call if they feel their children are being made uncomfortable by talk of race in school. The purpose of this hotline is, of course, to make teachers wary of facilitating any discussion of race relations or racism, for fear of being subjected to an inquiry, potential litigation, and the loss of their jobs.

This manufactured controversy is hard to kill. I’m almost wishing we’d go back to arguing whether kids should be taught evolution or intelligent design instead. Almost. CRT is a continuation of those same arguments, imo. Patriarchal, misogynist, Christian nationalist ideals of what America should go back to "again". It's all of a piece in getting the right energized, donating, and to the polls on issues that roll back to clock to "the good old days" of white, cis-het, Christian males being in charge of everything.

As a teacher, I am not all comfortable being political in any way right now.
Through the Freedom of Information Act, we had parents in our district request to see emails from our Union rep to see if CRT was mentioned or positions on a mask mandate in our district. He sent out an email and now uses a personal email and we are to respond to him only from a personal email so those emails are protected. We were told to be very careful about email contents. I am not worried personally because I write the most vanilla emails. Anything important is done via text message.
I have 6 years to retirement. I hope I can make it. Then I will be free to voice my opinions.
I feel so bad for kids that might feel bad because their ancestors did really shitty things! NOT!
