John Oliver absolutely nails it. Must watch, even if only the first minute for his takedown of teaching the recorder in school and Ted Cruz. ššš youtu.be/EICp1vGlh_UOh my gosh, this is SO GOOD! @lefturnonly really should watch this all the way through and then we can have a proper discussion.

I am an SLP in Denver Public Schools. Douglas County, which is just south of me, recently elected a school board majority of Qanon wackjobs. They just (likely illegally) fired the superintendent, over vague complaints over masks, and the districtās equity policy (CRT complaints). A good chunk of the districtās teachers staged a sickout in protest, and classes were cancelled. Since then, someone did an open records request of those teachers; not sure if it went through or not, but since then nasty and threatening messages were left on teachersā cars in school parking lots. This shit is insane, and it is only going to get worse. Iām retiring as soon as I possibly can.

The middle and lower-middle class people who are voting for this stuff haven't figured out that they will be left out of the sort of schools the GOP here envisions, and told to fend for themselves.

At first it was opposition to the equity audit that we had. Saying that it was a waste of money (that came from the CARES act). Then once the equity audit was done and the district severed ties with the equity group, they started complaining about the curriculum (after asking for the entire curriculum to be released to them and they nitpicked anything they could and took it out of context to post online to incite rage) and other things. The district created an equity committee made up of students, staff and parents. Staff and parents could apply to be in the group. The parents of students in the group had to sign off on whether or not they wanted their kids names to be made public or for pics to be taken, etc. The information from the groups has been made public, but now the group is suing the district because they think parents affiliated with that group/ideology were discriminated against because not all of them were admitted to the committee. And they want the names of all the people in the committee to be made public. Mind you, one of them also went on Fox and Friends last summer and after that, many people who work for the district received threats. I'm not exactly sure what they are afraid of in regards to this committee. They are definitely following the playbook laid out by anti-equity groups that have caused problems around the country. It is maddening. They were supposedly so concerned about the cost of the equity audit, but have no concerns about the cost (in money and resources) that the district has incurred because of them. Our HS principal also quit right after Christmas break. She is a lesbian and the group has been targeting LGBTQ signage or support.

On this very board youāve said you will never vote for a Democrat so youāve made it crystal clear which side of the ācauseā you are on. Donāt try to wrap your turd in a āsupportiveā message. I donāt agree with either party on all the issues. I have to pick the issue I find most important because it will impact my family the most and vote on that. Right now, thatās not CRT or public education. The fact that Iām voting based on a different issue doesnāt mean anything about my beliefs on this issue. What ARE the issues that you base your vote on?

She's made her opinion pretty clear on those and will support anyone who is against them. Although, I think she was in favor of them for schools because her husband works in one.

Itāll be just a couple of weeks before they hold their sham interviews and install their prop superintendent.

At a time when it's more important than ever to talk to kids about race. The United States currently has a sitting black, bi-racial Vice President, and recently had two terms of a black, bi-racial President. And NOW it's more important than ever to talk to kids about race? Because you're going to point out to them how the US has gone from enslaving people with dark skin color to sitting them on the seats of power? No. It's because you want to tell them how bad they should feel if their skin is pale. There are quite a number of parents who see things differently than you do. And some of them, both people of color and colorless? people, think this compulsive attention to race is not helping people blend together at all. Nothing proclaims UNITY! like finding more ways to divide kids. Of all of your obnoxious, offensive posts, this one is by far the worst. I can't tell if you're serious or more likely, just stirring the pot. Seriously, all of our racial problems are fixed simply because we elected a black president? I think if you asked almost any person of color (except for Republican politicians who sold their souls to the devil) they would strongly disagree with you. Just one example - there are significant problems with race when young black men are more likely to die from encounters with the police. Did you learn nothing from the black lives matter protests? Teaching about the history of racism in this country is not divisive. No one is deliberately trying to make kids feel bad. If white children feel empathy for how we treat people of color, that's something positive, not negative. Whitewashing history and ignoring systematic racism because entitled privileged snowflake white kids might feel bad is not unity, it's the exact opposite, it's divisive. How do you think black kids or children of color feel when history is whitewashed? Conservatives care about the feelings of white children and make it perfectly clear they don't care about the feelings of children of color. Parents who agree are racist. And if they're tired of being called racist, maybe they need to open their mind and change their behavior. The only way to achieve unity is to confront the problems and challenges of racism in this country head on. Ignoring it will not make it go away nor will it unite the country. The focus and attention on race is because of racist, ignorant people like you.

It is completely appalling. I have friends who have kids in school there, just devastating. Lawsuits are being filed as we speak about illegally firing the superintendent, but the damage has been done.
