I'm in the planning/gathering stage for my crafting/scrapbooking she-shed. It is not lofted, and 10x20 ft. Planning light color for the walls & ceiling color.
What is the best for overhead lighting? There are only two windows(although I might have another one cut in) and I have an OTT desktop light that I use when I'm scrapbooking. I'm just not sure what to put up for overhead/full room lighting.

I went to Home Depot and talked to the lighting specialist. (I kept asking questions until they called him on the walkie.) I asked about the best craft lighting and which lights would be the brightest and best for crafting. I wish I could tell you his answer, but he did guide me to a light that is long and has multiple bulbs that you can angle any way you like. The bulbs are supposed to last longer than I will. We'll see. I also keep an Ott light on my desk for close up lighting.

I recently moved to a new craft room that is about 10x14 with 9' ceilings and just one good-sized window. I needed to replace the flush-mount fixture and knew I wanted something that would hang lower over my craft table, yet not look like a dining room fixture. I got this light from pottery barn Paxton light and love it! I wouldn't say it lights up every corner of the room well although it is the perfect light for over the table and general lighting for the rest of the room. I also supplement with an ott lamp on my table, since eye strain for me seems to be an almost every day issue. I also just put LED bulbs in it that are equivalent to 60watt bulbs. I could definitely go brighter than that. OOPS! I didn't look close enough! This McCarthy light is actually the one I went with! I considered the other, although I ended up with this one since it had a bit more of cleaner/modern feel. When I was looking, I wanted something that was multiple lights with a central or circular design, not a lineal design in case I move my table another direction.

Two summers ago I had a ceiling fan put in my craft space that use four 75W equivalent LED bulbs, 1100 lumens and 5000 kelvin. The bulbs simulate daylight, providing a crisp white light. I absolutely love them! My space also has a large window that provides natural light, but the overhead lights make such a difference! (non-affiliate links) Bulbs: AmazonFixture: Amazon
ETA: I don't use the bulbs that came in the ceiling fan kit, I replaced them with awesome, bright lights (with the approval of the electrician that installed it)!

I had track lighting (3 sets) installed so I can angle the lights where I need them. The room had a ceiling fan with a light but it was not nearly bright enough for a crafter. I bought the lighting at Lowes.

My craft room is an upstairs loft. I hated the light/fan that came with the house, until I changed out the bulbs. Using the daylight bulbs makes such a huge difference, no matter what your light fixture is like.

...Using the daylight bulbs makes such a huge difference, no matter what your light fixture is like. Agreed, except fixtures with reflective or colored covers/shades/globes/diffusers/liners may color cast or otherwise alter performance of daylight bulbs.

I have LED wafer lights (ETA these are the newer, thinner version of can lights, cut into drywall). You could see my room from space. I've only been in my space for a week, but I haven't brought my Ott lights up from my previous basement space, and I am suuuuuper picky about shadows.
ETA: my space is a corner in a room with two windows that face East, and one door (with a window in it) that faces West. The space got much darker as we removed two windows, and replaced a slider door with a regular door (when your entire house is windows, it makes furniture placement tricky!!) We painted the walls and ceiling Sherwin Williams Pure White, just as a reference.
ETA2: So I did bring up my Ott lights tonight to see if that would still allow me to craft during Friday night movie time without complaints from the rest of the family about my light pollution, lol. When I turned the Ott lights on with my overhead lights on, I could see a small difference. For the small amount of difference and the space they take up, I think the lights will be rlegated to my bookcase unless I want to craft on Friday night movie nights, lol.

My craft room is actually used to be a utility room. It is about 10x8 and doesn’t have any windows. I love having my own space but have never found lighting that works well. We moved in 15 years ago and I tried several lights/bulbs and finally gave up. Is there anything new out there that I should try?
