hi! so i posted to my local buy nothing group, because i was looking for a die cutter to use with dies. (anyone have one for cheap??) and someone gifted me a silhouette cameo 1. So i'm completely clueless, i'm not sure if this will still work? because it needs software or something, right? can anyone help me figure this out? i have the machine, cords and some blades. i'm thinking i need a mat? not sure but i don't want to buy parts if this isn't usable.

I had the Silhouette Cameo 1, but it stopped working with my computer due to a Windows update. They came out with a fix, but by then, I had bought the Cameo 3. There have been other updates since then, so I have no idea whether it will work or not. If it does, you will definitely need a mat. Edited to add: looks like mamagidget answered the question as to whether or not it will work. It’s a great machine, and the software is really good, but it does have a little bit of a learning curve. It’s totally worth it, though. Enjoy!

I am still using my Cameo 1. It's a work horse (in fact, it's cutting a huge pig for a BBQ layout as I type). I totally encourage you to work with it because I'm not at all tech savvy and I love this machine. I learn a lot through all the You Tube videos out there. Honestly, it's not too hard and I bet you won't sweat finding a die cutter so quickly. Oh, and you can get software from the Silhouette website.
